Pawlenty Argues On Obama’s Behalf, Says War Powers Act “Does Not Apply” To War In Libya…

Hence the reason T-Paw received 1.03% of the vote in the latest WZ poll.

NEW YORK — GOP presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty said Tuesday that the War Powers Act “does not apply” to the U.S. intervention in Libya, but that he would consult with Congress anyway if he launched the mission as president.

During a question-and-answer session following a speech on foreign policy at the Council on Foreign Relations, Pawlenty said that he would confer with members of Congress “as a courtesy and gesture of respect,” but that he does not believe congressional authorization would be required for such a mission.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has threatened to cut off funds for the Libyan mission if the White House does not better explain the intervention.

Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor, used his speech to call for Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s ouster and criticized Obama for being hesitant to act more bodly to remove him from power.

I want to speak plainly this morning about the opportunities and the dangers we face today in the Middle East. The revolutions now roiling that region offer the promise of a more democratic, more open, and a more prosperous Arab world. From Morocco to the Arabian Gulf, the escape from the dead hand of oppression is now a real possibility.

Now is not the time to retreat from freedom’s rise.

Yet at the same time, we know these revolutions can bring to power forces that are neither democratic nor forward-looking. Just as the people of Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria and elsewhere see a chance for a better life of genuine freedom, the leaders of radical Islam see a chance to ride political turmoil into power.

You’d think being a plane-jane, soft-spoken guy… he would know that he needs to say SOMETHING to get attention.

Too bad he chose to say something STUPID.

Utterly amazing just how STUPID these RINOS are! One second the say; “I’m running for President”. Two seconds later they open their mouths and self-immolate! It’s over before it even starts. Newt, Huntsman, Pawlenty – all pathetically sad buffoons. At least they’ll be out of the way early so we can focus on candidates that have and deserve a real chance.

The only chance the Repubs have for victory in 2012 is with a candidate that is against EVERY thing Obama is for. Anybody that says “I agree with the President” about anything is finished.

All these people Dems, Repubs, Indies, need to be identified, tagged and removed (by voting out or scandal) from office who refuse to work for WE the PEOPLE as soon as possible for the efficiency of the U.S. Government because they keep breaking the Rule of Law and also should be sued as a group of conspirators and traitors against WE the PEOPLE, if possible, especially when they make and pass laws that serve themselves and especially WE the PEOPLE get stuck with all the unintended consequences. Actually, I believe they know what the unintended consequences usually are but that’s for another day and more burden to the Citizens of the U.S.. It took a little while for Blegoyovich from Gangster City Chicago to get HIS, but the PEOPLE saw through his Bullshit and they prevailed!!! Cheers!

MN dumb is no way to go through life! Did T-Paw (r-Prairie Home) actually try to explain why/how Obama had completely dismissed the US Congress in taking the US into the Libya?

Why does T–Paw just mimic the SOS we get from the unelectable Romney…do they share the same talking points?

    Bipartisan support:

Senate panel OKs use of force in Libya

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Tuesday to back President Obama’s deployment of U.S. forces to Libya in a strong bipartisan vote that delivered a critical boost to a White House that has found itself under assault from Capitol Hill.

Voting 14-5, the Senate panel approved a resolution authorizing Mr. Obama to continue limited strikes by U.S. warplanes and unmanned drones, though it specifically prohibits American ground forces from being used either now or in a postwar peacekeeping situation.

Cluebat: I’ll stand with Reagan, T-Paw and the Founders… and not Dennis Kucinich.

FLASHBACK Lebanon (9/82): Reagan deploys 1,200 U.S. Marines to Beirut.
    http://congressionalresearch.com/RL30184/document.php?study=MILITARY+INTERVENTIONS+BY+U.S.+FORCES+FROM+VIETNAM+TO+BOSNIA+BACKGROUND+OUTCOMES+AND+LESSONS+LEARNED+FOR+KOSOVO

President Reagan reported the first deployment without referring to [the War Powers Act], despite a warning from the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee that the deployment should be reported with specific reference to Section 4(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution.

President Reagan also reported the second deployment without reference to the War Powers Resolution, stating that the Marines would not engage in combat unless attacked.

In June 1983, *Congress passed the Lebanon Emergency Assistance Act of 1983 (P.L. 98-43), requiring statutory authority for the President to significantly expand the number or role of U.S. military personnel in Lebanon. As a result of the continuing War Powers debate, on September 20, 1993, *Congress passed a joint resolution (P.L. 98-119) authorizing the Marines to remain in Lebanon for 18 months. The resolution specifically invoked section 4(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution.

[Note: Reagan was never sanctioned for reporting the deployment and awaiting *Congressional action. I'm with jp, Reagan and the Founders.]

Kaddafi must be comforted watching Ron Paul neo-isolationists and Dennis Kookcynic neo-internationalists twist our Congressional Quislings into his own private mob of terrorism appeasers in DC.

George Soros and Code Pink couldn’t have done better.
