O’s Weekly Address: “It would be nice if we could keep every tax break, but we can’t afford them”
Same words, same melody, same song. In other words, “Not a conversation worth having.”
Comments & pings are closed.(White House) — Right now, there are a lot of folks who are still struggling with the effects of the recession. They’re wondering how they’d deal with an unexpected expense if their car breaks down. They’re worried about layoffs. They’re not sure if they can help their kids pay for college. And for many families, these challenges were around long before the recession hit in 2007.
I ran for President because I believed in an America where ordinary folks could get ahead; where if you worked hard, you could have a better life. That’s been my focus since I came into office, and that has to be our focus now. It’s one of the reasons why we’re working to reduce our nation’s deficit. Government has to start living within its means, just like families do. We have to cut the spending we can’t afford so we can put the economy on sounder footing, and give our businesses the confidence they need to grow and create jobs.
The good news is, Democrats and Republicans agree on the need to solve the problem. And over the last few weeks, the Vice President and I have gotten both parties to identify more than $1 trillion in spending cuts. That’s trillion with a ‘t.’ But after a decade in which Washington ran up the country’s credit card, we’ve got to find more savings to get out of the red. That means looking at every program and tax break in the budget — every single one — to find places to cut waste and save money. It means we’ll have to make tough decisions and scale back worthy programs. And nothing can be off limits, including spending in the tax code, particularly the loopholes that benefit very few individuals and corporations.
Now, it would be nice if we could keep every tax break, but we can’t afford them. Because if we choose to keep those tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, or for hedge fund managers and corporate jet owners, or for oil and gas companies pulling in huge profits without our help — then we’ll have to make even deeper cuts somewhere else. We’ve got to say to a student, ‘You don’t get a college scholarship.’ We have to say to a medical researcher, ‘You can’t do that cancer research.’ We might have to tell seniors, ‘You have to pay more for Medicare.’
That isn’t right, and it isn’t smart. We’ve got to cut the deficit, but we can do that while making investments in education, research, and technology that actually create jobs. We can live within our means while still investing in our future. That’s what we have to do. And I’m confident that the Democrats and Republicans in Congress can find a way to give some ground, make some hard choices, and put their shoulders to wheel to get this done for the sake of our country.
On Monday, we celebrate Independence Day, the day we declared a new nation, based on revolutionary idea: that people ought to determine their own destiny; that freedom and self-governance weren’t gifts handed to us by kings or emperors, but the rights of every human being. We’ve learned in the years since that democracy isn’t always pretty. We have arguments. We disagree. But time and again we’ve proven that we could come together to solve problems. We remember that while we may not see eye-to-eye on everything, we share a love for this country and a faith in its future. That’s the spirit we need to harness now. That’s how we’ll meet this challenge and reach a brighter day. Thanks for listening, and have a wonderful fourth [sic] of July.

In all my 40 years on the planet, being very politically aware, I cannot remember a single politician who plays the class warfare card so often. How old, tired, and downright disgusting. I AM SICK OF IT!
I really am very damn sick and tired of hearing from Bozo and the dems that “we can’t afford the tax breaks”.
WE???
You mean YOU can’t.
It’s our money, Bozo. You wouldn’t know a damn thing about it. You’ve never honestly earned one thin dime in your entire adult life.
“We can’t afford the tax breaks”??
You arrogant SOB …
Corporate jets or milk for women and children? That’s the choice. You know, I’m thinking we need the jets so men and women who run businesses can travel without having their assholes investigated.
The regime is desperate to pump up their slush funds. They’re not raking in what they need to grease palms for their fraudulent re-election campaign and other unconstitutional and criminal activities to silence their critics.
call me crazy uncle barry, but did you ever think about STOPPING THE SPENDING YOU MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do what the rest of us bible clinging, gun toting Americans have to do. we would be sent to jail if we did what you are doing.
adn you are suppose to me the smartest man on earth……PLEASE!
y0u are purposely driving this countryof ours to finacial collasps so you and your sh*t for brains commies can through us into a globel economy and have even more control over us.
go ahead and try it barry and see what will happen to the faithful in this country
spending in the tax code
They don’t even try to hide it anymore.
“On Monday, we celebrate Independence Day, the day we declared a new nation, based on revolutionary idea: that people ought to determine their own destiny; that freedom and self-governance weren’t gifts handed to us by kings or emperors, but the rights of every human being.”
Yea….he said that. But doesn’t believe a damn word of it.

So…”we” can’t afford to NOT take(steal) other people’s money from them…?

I could tell you all what you already know, but I would be censored on this site for doing so…..

———————————————————-
“Weekly” is acceptable. As “presidents” go, this guy if far behind the curve on holding actual pressers where he is asked actual questions on actual issues from the press (who are actually on shaky footing with the failure they created and pushed on us like some really bad meth from their lab).
However, most weeks the guy is on near everyday with his scripted and teleprompted blathering akin to the above bloviation. At this point he has run very thin with those who were idiotic enough to vote for him the first time around, and they are just as annoyed as you are at his over-exposure … especially when he insists on shoveling the same lying bullshit that got them to vote for him in the first place.
@maggie: thumbs up!
“But after a decade in which Washington ran up the country’s credit card”
This from the innovator the 1 and a half trillion dollar annual budget deficit. That is trillion with a friggen T. This jackass actually thinks he is a responsible adult.
I need your money more than you do!
I. Hate. Him.
With a purple passion that matches his freakazoid lips.
He is an evil man. I saw it during the campaign and I was astounded that so many others were blinded.
I really wish he’d just start smoking in these things
Thank You sablegsd.
Did no one listen to him.
I heard him loud and clear. All the crap he said during the election is coming true. Everybody got caught up in the black thing.
He has done a disservice to all black people, as well as everyone else. Hopefully more see thru the sewer this time!!!
Why wait…………Impeach Obama NOW!!!
Why did the WH use that photo of him doing the Mussolini? He is a freak of nature and his groupies are some kind of ghey cult.
I am not your fucking “folks”. The American public is sick of your pompus, elitist method of talking down to them.
You don’t have the balls to make a decision and have to rely on a bunch of liberal sychophants to do your bidding.
You take no responsbility other than pointing fingers at others, trying to deflect your irresponsible policies on someone else.
Karma is a bitch, Mr. O – and she’s going to come after you …. and best of all, you know it! I smell the fear.
It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
- Thomas Jefferson
@BigJake -thank YOU!
re: folks-wtf? and the way he slurs his words to sound like ‘the common man’
absolutely sickening
what can we do? nothing it seems
What an Ivy League jerk. With just a state university education, even I know it’s Fourth of July with a capital “F.”
Or maybe he’s trying to send some other type of message. The second of May would not be capitalized because it is another day. So, fourth of July gives the impression that he recognizes it not as American Independence, but just another day off to hit the links.
Maybe one of you better educated folks(sorry couldn’t think of another word) could explain to me “spending in the tax code”. I always thought the tax code, all 18,000 pages of that monstrosity, spelled out how the government confinscates its money from the people. Not what gets done with it afterwards. There should be no “spending” in the tax code, correct? Then again, I wasn’t hand carried through 3 Ivy League schools. I was too busy working.
We might have to say to some parasitic welfare leech who’s never worked a day in his/her life “It looks like you’re going to have to get a job and support yourself and your illegitimate offspring.”
Makes you wonder if he ever
just once bothered to listen to his own BS?
There he goes again. Tax and spend liberals have never changed. It has never worked, will never work, but they keep on trying. Half the people do not pay income tax now. The top 5% pay most of the taxes. How much more should one group pay? I think we need a minimum income tax on everyone. I don’t care if it is 1% of earning on all those who pay total income tax of under $100 a year right now. Even if one now pays zero, they should now pay 1%. No one who does not pay income taxes should get money back from the government. If living in the USA is not worth 1% of your income at a minimum, then you should leave. Lets face it, America is turning into a place where you need to be in the upper income brackets or in the bottom. The middle class get few benefits and few of the perks.
“….but we can “secretly” prop up unions w/ taxpayer moolah…re-fund
the supposedly disbanded ACORN, keep FEMA monies from Texas while
funding “minority priorities” to the max! I am THE “KING”….and a
helluva lot more powerful than the M. L. King you all claim to honor!”
CinC BHO….in his dreams.
@BigJake
I’m with you.
Barrie, we are NOT your folks…. we reject you and your bullshit. We know you are a teleprompter man and you don’t mean a word you say, its just a smoke screen to sucker people into delusion.
I listened to some excerpts of Barrie reading his book, and it was so insincere, it was obvious that he DIDN”T write it.. that’s what his teleprompter speeches sound like to me … completely insincere, just fodder for fools.
Go to hell Barrie. We are going to dump your ass in 2012.
Barry Obama…….”pedantic”, “unctuous” and “mendacious” come to mind.
He’s becoming a one-trick pony to all but the zealots.
“It would be nice if we could keep every tax break, but we can’t afford them”
It would be nice is we could keep Obama as president, but we can’t afford him.
B-bye Mr. President. In 2012, your ass we will shelve.
Hey here’s an idea!
why don’t we cut off foreign aid!
and halt the chemtrailing of our American skies! while we are at it.
Gee! Easter weekend lightning strikes the White House. This weekend, the presidential magnetic seal just happens to fly off the limo, with him in it. It isn’t a big hand out of nowhere writing on a wall, but it seems that Deity is trying to send ‘somebody’ the same message told to Caesar, by the slave riding behind him, holding the olive wreath over his head … “Remember, thou art mortal.”
In 1776, WE, the people of the British colonies, stood, and declared that the INDIVIDUAL IS SOVEREIGN. We refudiate the right of divine ascension to leadership. We refuse the right to any foreign power to determine our lives, our destinies, our freedoms, for us, anymore.
In 2011, the current President has an administration that has declared what the populace owns is rightly the property of the administration, be it of physical or monetary value. The current President and his administration has declared that all the populace are subject to search and seizure, and are suspect as to be determined by the President himself, by law. The current President and his administration have sanctioned that a foreign theocracy HAS influence in the dealings of the lives of the populace. The current President and his administration have, by law, made the populace, born and yet-to-be, indentured servants to a political system, diametrically in opposition to every American ideal.
These are things that have been abhorrent to those who have served in our nation’s military, in defense of our national identity and freedom, and who have given the supreme sacrifice, as did our forefathers in the years 1776 – 1781.
It is past time, that we, the American populace, throw off these illegall forged shackles, by this administration, and run this guy out of town, if not undeterminably farther.
Look to Minnesota for a glimpse into the future, P-Bo will let the gov’mt shut down and spend the whole time deriding the Republicans for shutting down the system. His ‘folks’ (few of them taxpayers)will be up in arms, the propaganda machine/unions will run their blame-shifting ads at full volume. A precious crisis/resource not to be wasted at a critical time in his never-ending campaigning. All to achieve the elimination of the hated Bush tax-cuts and the further division of our country thru class-warfare.
What an imbecile to assume the Feds cannot afford a tax cut. Live within your means like we all do. If our money belongs to the Feds first, and they decide what we can keep, are we not slaves to the Zero and government?
Hey, useful idiot Obama, we can’t afford it. It’s not your money thief! You don’t get one more dime. This guy is a criminal who belongs in prison. Someone do me a favor the next time you see his lying nose up in the air, go over a hit him with a baseball bat, and knock it down.
With all this folksy language and shucks just a message from the heart… of a teleprompter.
And the word was to destroy the liberal philistine way of life.
A clarification: What he should have said is the way I spend your money, I need more to spend.
I wonder how the annoying one will be spending his 4th of July weekend besides raising taxes on us all
Obama is weak he is nothing but a weak soled weak-minded pussy.
He is not a president. He can’t handle the job it’s too hard he has to have a break every weekend from it to recharge he’s weak ass battery.
Well maybe its time for We Strong minded Americans to get this weak ass soviet battery out of our White House.
I’m tried of the little man running around telling everyone how sorry his half black ass is about Our Country and I’m so fucking sick and tired of he and wookie always having to party or run off a vacation because they work so hard..
Kiss my ass you fucking gutter trash race-baiting communist loving black theology sucking. Money grubbing, shit-hags. You’re not worth the crap left in the bowl of a stinking toilet in a run down section of the ghetto gas station that the homeless drunks mentally deranged, crack whore’s and shit-bums have been using as their own personal backdrop. Your not worth the used up dried out crusty DNA left on dirty old stinking motel sheets after a 20 minute hooker has spent 40 hours on her back with 400 johns all sporting some sort puss oozing of VD.
I fucking loath you both. you disgust me and every American loving patriot out there.
You’re weak, you’re simple, you’re trash you’re lazy, you’re worthless and most of all you’re OUT OF HERE!
“It would be nice if we could keep every tax break, but we can’t afford them.”
Me: “It would be nice if we could keep every social program and entitlement, but we can’t afford them.”
Yo barky, who’s WE?
