What Ever Happened to the Republicans’ Plan to Repeal and Replace ObamaCare?

Repeal and replace? While the GOP battles with the White House over the Debt Ceiling, ObamaCare becomes entrenched as the law of the land.

When they took control of the House, Republicans could barely stop talking about their plans to “repeal and replace” the health care reform law.

Six months later, they hardly talk publicly about those plans at all. And they’re nowhere close to “replacing” the law.

House Republicans haven’t held a floor vote on a bill or amendment trying to repeal, defund or even nick the law for six weeks, after a dozen attempts earlier this year. The stream of committee hearings to pick apart the law’s policies — held back-to-back-to-back earlier this year — has slowed to a trickle.

And not a single element of their “replace” agenda has gotten a House floor vote.

Senate Republicans — who made similar pledges to fight the Democratic majority to try to defeat the law — haven’t had much luck either. Republicans haven’t been able to force a vote on any proposal against the health plan since failed attempts to defund the law and Planned Parenthood in mid-April.

For all of their promises to do everything they can to stop the law, the only thing Republicans have been able to get to President Barack Obama’s desk is the bill to eliminate the requirement that businesses file 1099 tax reporting requirements.

The Ryan Budget repeals ObamaCare and replaces it. The Bill passed the House. Maybe Politico should read it.

Lied to again! We’ve so not got a chance against these professional liars, on both sides, that it is a disgrace. We will be looking for help from any third world country before long.

The only national health care this country needs is jam an enema up Washington’s breezer.

The intent is the same as it was. Only the focus has changed; ‘Repeal and Replace’ Barry! (then turn off all the gifts to his leftist friends by executive order, or by signing statement)

Really, it doesn’t matter who wins the Presidency if both houses of Congress are lost to the Democrats. Obama has accumulated more impeachable offenses than any other president in history.

:-) Do a little reading on the ‘Impeachment Process’. See the part that says “Only a simple majority is required to….”?

I was for repeal before I was against it. Now I see the benefits to my reelection campaign when I can tell my voters they have school based health centers. See how that works suckahs ?

Allen West — you beat me to it. You were the first guy I thought of.

That shameful comment about “I don’t just want to chip away at it. I want to kill it in one fell swoop” (while VOTING TO FUND part of it in FLA!) was enough for me.

Michele Bachmann also yammers on about it and does ZERO.

GOP wimps in House seem unable to tackle more than one issue at a time — they act (or really do not act!) as if they have 10 year terms, not only two short years! If they at least got that debt/budget thing done, but they are stuck on
stupid. Their terms will be running out soon …. time to act on many key issues, now!

What the hell are they doing over there?

They have repealed it, but what exactly does that signify? Was it purely symbolic? What meaning does it hold? Does that 10% tax on tanning salons that went into effect on July 1, 2010 still apply? And what about the 3.8% tax on unearned income that will apply to the sale of real estate property that is supposed to go into effect on January 2013? If just the tanning salon tax is still applicable today then the House vote to repeal this abomination in the guise of H.R. 2 on January 19th means less than nothing.

Good point. EVERY voter should read to see how batshit crazy Republicans are and how their idea to deal with healthcare is just not to pay for it. The damn thing should be mailed to every registered voter in America (especially, since it polls less than 40%)

Someone, get Ken a job with the RNC! He’s my ticket back to a Speaker names Pelosi

This country has been destroyed and there is no going back. They have been allowed to devastate this country. And the part that ought to make you irate is that it was done with purposeful intent. ( George Soros behind a great deal of this: ” “The main enemy of the open society, I believe, is no longer the communist but the capitalist threat.”- “The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States. [This idea] happens to coincide with the prevailing opinion in the world. And I think that’s rather shocking for Americans to hear.”)
Doesn’t matter what GOP candidate wins in 2012 –this country is fucked. Gee can imagine Romney repealing Obamacare ? LOL not a chance…he will just say it needs to be tweaked a little.

you do realize that republicans control only one branch of government at the moment. right now the best we can do is obstruct, delay, perhaps defund in places, but until they gain the senate and presidency don’t expect miracles.

  14. exceller says:
    July 6, 2011 at 1:03 pm

correction: they actually control 1.5 branches, but while they control only half of congress they are limited in what they can do.

Real Americans know this and WE are watching…

To Not get rid of this BS and wholly unconstitutional mass control item will truly be the third rail for so many.
I know many who await not just the current upcoming election but many cycles forward as We the people will get what WE deserve -True, honest, & rightiously indignant Constitional republic representatives.

We need our own media. Completely controlled and 100% biased toward the truth. No Democrats, progressives, liberals, lefties. No O’Reilly types either. Fence sitters. No interviews with the NYT, leftie blogs, politico. Just the news as it should be presented. Sort of a Weaselzippers. One month of our own media and we would have once-God-blessed-America turned in the right direction.

How could they do anything other than defund it in the House right now with a Democratic controlled Senate and Obama’s executive veto power? Just wait till the 2012 sweep, Obamacare will be repealed and replaced hopefully with major changes in tort law reform, mandatory insurance coverage participation of high risk pools and open National insurance pools to promote competition. Clamp down on the ambulance chasing lawyers and tighten the regulations on the insurance middlemen and watch the healthcare costs drop.

Stand up in 2012 America, it is time for common sense, honor and integrity to take control!

Hold on a moment…We have this debt ceiling thing happening, the house refused to do a budget last year, the senate has not voted on a budget for something like 800 days, etc etc etc. How the hell are they legally still collecting taxes and spending money?

Why are all of the working folks not realigning their withholding status to “exempt”?

  20. A Conservative Teacher says:
    July 6, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Shocking! They repeal it in the House, but it goes no where in the Senate and even if it did the President would veto it- that must demonstrate that Republicans only control one house or something. Or else it demonstrates that the whole world hates evil Republicans because they can’t pass legislation while only controlling one chamber or something.

  21. gastorgrab says:

The funny thing about this is liberals are thinking that some of these unconstitutional programs will survive by running out the political clock. They are thinking that when all is said and done, the tangled web they created will be too complex for anyone to untangle in a single term.

They aren’t aware that they risk losing some of the social programs they have relied on for years (to put money in the hands of their constituents) may be at a new risk. If democrats lose both houses of congress, they stand to lose 50 years worth of ‘welfare state’ programs. Their safe zone could be pushed back by decades.

After 200+ years, shouldn’t we do a spring cleaning? There is an awful lot of clutter that needs to be straightened up in government.

Maybe it’s time that the US got completely out of the ‘charity business’ and made life so cheap to live that no one would need any help. For every tax we levy to provide a social service, life becomes more expensive for the poor. The rich do not ever pay taxes……they just pass them on in the form of higher prices.
