So, doesn’t this imply that most, if not all, republicans voted to “increase” the debt ceiling? Seems to me people need to go no matter what the party.
Ok so before every Repub wanted an increase but now none do? And before every Dem didn’t want an increase and now all do? Doesn’t it just slightly seem like both sides are constantly fucking us? Do you really think either party gives a shit about anyone that isn’t at least a multi-millionaire?
Just a reminder that it doesn’t matter what party, it is all about power. Only one Repub voted no.
The unfortunate consequence of having full-time legislators, is that they always want to legislate.
At that time the dems just wanted to appear as if they wanted the wars de-funded. That little ploy helped them win seats and a presidency
After 2008 when they got control of the purse strings was when things started going downhill at a much quicker rate
Yes, both parties are hypocrites. But what makes this time ’round a little different is that back when Bush was asking for debt ceiling increases, our deficit was at most around $630 billion, and our debt was about $8 trillion. Just since Obama has been president, the Democratic congress raised the debt ceiling six times, and our deficit has increased to a minimum of $1.3 trillion for each of the three years Obama has been responsible for our fiscal house, and our debt has swollen to over $14 trillion, plus he has increased the size and cost of the federal government by 30%. By now it’s clear we have a huge problem, and increasing the limit on our credit card will do much more harm than good.
Time to clean out the rino dung.
Exactly Jenbee
This time weve maxed out. Were at, or damn close to the point of no return.
Its not like we can just file some chapter of banruptcy relieving us of our debt.
We could be looking at multiple generations paying ridiculous taxes in order to catch up.
Any strain on the private sector for that length of time is certain disaster
Debt limits are increased by the majority party for whatever they want it increased for. We the people are now saying “STOP THE INSANTIY” to BOTH parties, and not another fucking penny until you begin to make some rational and severe cuts in the stupid spending. It does not matter what the past was, we can’t change it one bit. It does matter about the future and we CAN change that, along with our representation.
For way too long, government has been under the spell of the monied interests that apparently rule this nation. We have become a nation of “by the bucks and for the bucks” for the few. Bankers, corporations and lobbyists have literally gotten away with murder for years now. We do not have a free market economy, what we have is a special interest-run economy that spans billion dollars corporations all the way down to the poverty pimps. It has not been a free market economy since 1963!
My best advice – vote all the bums out and put in some REAL representation. Someone like you and I, and then demand they leave after 2 terms.
Well one fucking way or another don’t forget it was the baby boomers that did this. The single most selfish generation in history.
@Trufax
What “specifically” did the baby boomers want that drove the debt out of sight?
Social Security benefits are not part of the government’s deficit spending. We have and are paying for it. The part of the deficit that involves Soc. Sec. is the money our government owes Social Security that they have taken to spend on other things. You federal, state, county, and city officials can attempt to absolve yourselves of responsibility in your own minds but there will be a day of reckoning.
“So, doesn’t this imply that most, if not all, republicans voted to “increase” the debt ceiling? Seems to me people need to go no matter what the party.”
This right here. Even Senator DeMint was “for it before he was against it”.
2012 is almost here. Look at the list of yes votes on raising the debt limit and the “conservatives” still in the Senate. Yes, both sides played games with it. Republicans are doing the right thing now, but only because we have called them on it.
This just goes to show you how much work we have to do in remaking the Republican Party.
@Lightwave
Amen!
‘Collectivism’ is motivated by the personal greed of many different people. People with no sense of responsibility, and an inferiority complex, begin rationalizing a way to justify their personal needs (their ‘wants’) as if they are of “universal benefit” to everyone. People who feel unable to compete in a fair competition collaborate to change the rules of the game to produce a known outcome…..so that the winner of every game is known before the game is ever played. (see: cheating)
It is the ideology of ‘sour grapes’ (of envy).
When applied in the purest form, ‘Equality of Outcome’ negates any effort to determine merit in a community. The ‘skill’ factor is taken out of the equation.

@Jumper
@Trufax
BTW, this debt ceiling hike occuring on 3/16/06, was for funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It would not be reasonable to expect any Republican to vote no on this.
@Katherine
Any who vote to raise the debt ceiling will be removed from office. It really is that simple.
Excellent post Zip!!!
Lightwave….that is what I want, anyone that votes gets canned. But first we have to find people willing to run that are good, raise money etc. One other thing that needs to be done is to bring the MSM down. They get away w/so much bullshit. It’s reached it’s upper limits when the Wookie can openly say “we have the media on our side.” I don’t know the answer I wish I did, but the media needs to be reeled in and held accountable or we find more people than Andrew and Glenn to get on TV and point their B.S. out.
If we can’t get them to defund barrycare as promised how are we going to get them to pass term limits into law? Too many want to be career politicians. How do you keep them from running for other offices? Some of these ally cats just won’t go away.
@Axel
We can get them to do anything we want at the end of a gun; which is sadly what it’s going to take in order to turn this around.
Maybe so. It would be a sad day for America, but damn I am weary of all this bullshit.
Serving in the Congress, and Senate used to be for the common good, and service to the people in general. Its all for profit, political gain and greed. Who is their right minds would vote themselves out of a job? Who in their right mind would limit their fat cat job and benefits? Who in their right mind would pass a law that set a limit to how long you could have this job? Its a conflict of interest today. We the people vote them in, they make the laws to serve themselves and we cant do a darn thing. Its really a mess. I really think without an all out revolution, which will never happen, at least not with baby boomers still here, will we see any change that matters. That makes me very sad for our children.
We truly need people with strong moral consciences and strong convictions about how messed up this country really is, and willing to fight tooth and nail to get a change. Tough love, is what we need.

Well said! I see far too many Republicans tripping over themselves to defend a bunch of double-talking doormats. As far as I’m concerned it’s just two tiers of a single party.
Both want to legislate morality.
Both parties employ an “us versus them” strategy.
Both are pro-(endless) war (when it suits them)
Both want government intrusion (again, when it suits them)
Both parties have been almost completely bought off.
Supporters of both parties only care about what THEY want.
NEITHER sides likes to actually engage in debate, by and large.
American politics has been reduced to childish name calling, rumors, and staged fights. We’ve become our own ‘reality’ show.
Mark Twain wrote years ago, “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinct criminal class, except Congress.”
That was very likely true back then, but is is very definitely true today.
Self is shocked that the O didn’t vote “present”.
Um, when you decide to throw out numbers comparing budget deficits between Bush and Obama, at least to give the appearance that you are actually serious, you need to either add the cost of our two wars to Bush’s budget or subtract them from Obama’s budget. Otherwise, you are, in my opinion, intentionally, comparing apples to brussels sprouts. That, or you are simply ignorant, and shouldn’t be throwing numbers around about things that you don’t really understand.
Bush didn’t include the costs of these wars in his budget; Obama decided to include them in his.
There may very well be a difference when this is taken into account, but at least be honest about it.
Are there enough comments posted above to tell where the aTea Party is coming from and why its gaining ground? Too many of us are completely disgusted with the Demopubicans. Stand with this ex-GOP loyalist for:
1) less intrusive government
2) less spending
3) fewer wars (including Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, DRUGS and POVERTY). We haven’t won a war since WW II
4) more personal responsibility
5) more personal freedom (which can’t come without #4
Stand up and be counted. Take a look at Ron Paul. Honest? Name one other candidate that comes close.
Repubs spent too much when they controlled congress under Bush. Dems did even worse when they controlled congress for the last 5 yrs. The real key is who is trying to do the right thing now. Repubs want to have equal $ of spending cuts for every $ of debt increase, with no tax hikes, a very reasonabole approach to me. Obama wants either more taxes and more spending, or more debt and more spending, both of which will lead us to follow Greece.
Dont listen to the spin from the media about who is being reasonable here, look at the actual scoreable proposals on the table. Both Obama, and the dem senate has yet to put any CBO scoreable proposal on the table that reduces spending. Look at what Obama actually does, not what his spin machine, parroted by the MSM, says.
Tom Bebee has it together…. Don’t only look at Ron Paul, VOTE FOR HIM..
