Dem Rep. Mel Watt Introduces Amendment To Defund Ethics Panel Because It “Unfairly” Investigated Him — Update: Office Was Set Up By Nancy Pelosi…

Washington in a nutshell.

(Miami Herald) — A congressman who was investigated last year by the Office of Congressional Ethics has introduced an amendment to cut the office’s budget by 40 percent.

Though Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., was cleared of wrongdoing, in a letter Thursday to his colleagues Watt called the panel’s procedures “unfair and abusive” and said the more than $600,000 he proposes to cut from the office’s budget “wastes taxpayer money.”

“Ultimately, all the members charged were completely exonerated,” Watt said in the letter, referring to himself and seven other members of the House of Representatives. “However, all of these members incurred substantial expenses and experienced unjustified damage to their reputations in the middle of an election, and one of them actually lost his campaign.”

Watt was referring to former Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., who lost to a tea party-backed candidate in a tough year for Democrats.

Watchdog groups say that Watt’s amendment is payback for the panel’s probe of him. Watt could not be reached for comment Thursday.

“He doesn’t like that it investigated him, and now he wants to get rid of it,” said Melanie Sloan, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

Update: I should have caught this the first time around. This was the office Pelosi set up to “drain the swamp.”

(The Hill) — The House on Friday is scheduled to consider legislation that would slash funding for a controversial ethics office set up by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) several years ago.

The amendment, offered by Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.), presents an opportunity for members to express their displeasure with the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). House lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have long grumbled about the office; however, most have been reticent about publicly airing their views, worried about the appearance of calling for the dismantling of an ethics office in Congress.

I dunno, this sounds suspicious to me.

They may need to investigate him again.

What an embarrassment he must be to his state. Pomeroy (D-ND) didn’t lose because of any scandal, he lost because he quit representing the people of North Dakota as he became a lap dog for Nancy Pelosi.

Melanie Sloan director of CREW is the one who insisted the DOJ investigate Christine O’Donnell. Sloan has also thrown wild accusations at Boehner and many other Republicans.

If you go to the CREW website you will find that more than 75% of those she wants investigated are Republicans.

As far as I’m concerned CREW via Melanie Sloan is a Leftist hit group that only pursues the odd Democrat when the offenses are so blatant that to do otherwise would rob her of what little legitimacy she has left.

And BTW, Sloan went after Chrisine O’Donnell right in the middle of her campaign for the Senate. The Democrat won.

Melvin Watt is one of the dumbest persons to hold public office in the
history of the country. Any search of his past “statements” show
his BLACK bias on any issue before him. His slowwww Southern
speech pattern does not show deep internal deliberation, but more
a laughable reparations philosophy that Liberal brains have written
for him. The dumb-ass can’t even deliver them succinctly.
“South Park” would definitely rate him a “Melvin”.

Here’s a question for you: How is it possible that a committee of professional legislators – already extremely well compensated – can spend $600,000 on hearings, using facilities that are already paid for? Where could they possibly spend this amount of money?

A second question is this: If almost all of the investigations result in not guilty verdicts, how can Watt maintain that the committee is unfair? If anything, doesn’t this indicate a bias to exonerate each other?

What can you expect when one insignificant event in Greensboro, NC is still being commemorated on a yearly basis as an opportunity to stir up racism and white guilt?

    http://www.realcourage.org/2009/11/north-carolina-30th-anniversary-of-klan-nazi-shooting/

I’m sick, sick, sick of it….and believe me local black politicians like Mel have made their entire future from this one event that wikki now refers to as the Greensboro massacre. Believe me, I was there and while it is sad that people lost their lives, it was obvious to everyone that this was going to happen and that many in the crowd and march were simply there for the “fireworks”. Anyone with a brain knew this was being instigated by the commies to inflame both the KKK and the black onlookers. Any body with a brain could have guessed the motivation and the end result, one reason why I was watching from a distance, but I WAS there unlike the writer of wikki.

Several (racist) black “leaders” of the local community still bring this up at every opportunity and especially overuse the phrase “police brutality” even though the local police department – the white officers walk on eggshells and black officers who consort with criminals. The once premier police and fire dempartments (no 3 in the nation) have been decimated due to unfounded charges of racism and PC run amok. In the 30 years I lived there I’ve gone from open minded anti-war VN protestor liberal cheerleader of multicultualism to an open minded and knowledgeable, educated Christian conservative.

Read about the latest debaucle in Jerry Bledsoe’s articles “Cops in Black and White in Rhino Times.

Happily I have moved to a small town in SC where southern manners can still be found, and yes it’s interracial and yes, we are a minority. Unforunately it has been discovered by northernors who know a good thing when they see it, and move here for the jobs. I hope they leave their liberal ideals at home.

Don’t forget NC is also the home of those high-minded Duke professors who condemned the Duke lacorosse team in an open letter published in several newsletters. Of course we know the results of that, players exonerated but no apologies from Sharpton, Jackson or Duke U. It was also 2 Duke professors who were charged with pedophilia and abuse for raping their adopted son and loaning him out to friends. As I recall that child was black but there were no protests from Sharpton or Jesse Jackson then.

While the highest number of advanced degrees per capita in the US can be found in the Triangle area of NC, it brings with it the usual elitists that are ruing our once great universities.
