Just another Dem who wants to treat the Constitution like it’s a roll of toilet paper.
The other thing, the 14th Amendment, I believe, authorizes the president to raise the debt ceiling, of course, I think he’ll draw some legal challenges, but so be it. If they — I think at the end of the day we swear an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the 14th Amendment says the debt ceiling should not be questioned. I think the president has authority to raise it and move forward that way. I prefer to have the legislative body to operate and function, but if push comes to shove, I think that he needs to just invoke that Constitutional option.

Under the 14th amendment; there is absolutely no provision that allows the President of the United States to raise the debt ceiling of the federal government.
Section 5 clearly states : The congress (not the President) shall have the power to enforce,by appropriate legislation,,the provisions of article 14.
Another words the President cannot act alone without congressional legislation– and that is what has been going on over the last few weeks in congress.
Apparently Keith Ellison makes it up as he goes along.

I think it’s high time “We the People” write and demand that Obama be impeached for systematically destroying our nation though his actions.

I have a pocket copy of the Constitution. I’m looking at the 14th amendment right now and I’m trying to find where, even loosely, it says that the President has the authority to raise the debt ceiling. Section 1 deals with persons born or naturalized in the US having all rights and immunities of citizens of the US (the amendment that was misinterpreted to give us anchor babies). Section 2 deals with Representatives. Section 3 is interesting:
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

Section 4: “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and ounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.”
WHERE DOES IT SAY that the President has the ability to raise the debt ceiling without Congressional approval? Am I taking crazy pills?

Authorized by law is a key component here: It is the congress that are defined as the law makers, so once again only congress can approve such actions threw a vote.
