NY Times Thomas Friedman: GOP Being “Led Around By An Extremist Tea Party”…

As Senator Marco Rubio said yesterday, “if we had $1 billion for every time I heard the words ‘tea party extremist,’ we could solve this debt problem.”

Bush, who I believe is one of our most underrated presidents. I have long admired the elder Bush for the deftness with which he dealt with the collapse of the Soviet empire. But, in later years, I came to admire him even more for the fact that he believed that math and science were not matters of opinion — a view increasingly rare in today’s G.O.P.
Despite having run on the promise of “Read my lips: No new taxes,” when the deficit started spiraling to dangerous levels under his presidency, Bush agreed to a compromise with Democrats to raise several taxes, along with spending cuts, as part of a 1990 budget deal that helped to pave the way for the prosperity of that decade. It definitely hurt his re-election, but he did it anyway.

Saw an article that Trump is considering again to run for prez. I think he should and run on the Dem ticket.
The entire rotten barrel of commies in office need to be voted out.
Yeah, it’s totally adult and mainstream to go into $17 trillion debt because there’s just no way to find any real spending cut that can possibly be made.
Thank You Tea Party for holding Congress’s feet to the fire! If it wasn’t for the Tea Party, a bill would have been passed with no questions that would have us owing 80 cents out of every dollar to China instead of the current 42 cents that we now owe.
Don’t you just love how these commies keep invoking various republican presidents?
Now they’re onto GHWBush?
This drags on long enough Nixon and even GWBush will be waved about as heroes to them.
I would also begin demanding of these mouthy dickheads to point out the death and destruction the “extremist” TEA Party and its freshmen Congress members have inflicted on this country or anyone else. Or STOP using the vile comparison It then should be pointed out on air to these dickheads that the Nazi comparison didn’t fly, and the terrorist one isn’t either.
But it’s useless to go through the bother. You cannot reason or even shame these rabid snakes.
They are the extremists.
This Bozo probably should steer clear of any sort of Math analogy – although I’m assuming it’s some twisted way of trying to work global warming in too.
That’s fine – they’re all going to be standing around in 2012 wondering what happened when they find pubic hairs all over their lollypop.
Love the picture. Why do Marxists like to point their fingers at people while mindlessly parroting their talking points? Did they pick this gesture up from Fidel?
Tom, Tom, Tom
You would rather deal with ” compassionate conservatives ” the ones that are responsible for the present mess we are in.
The Tea Party is honest. When they say smaller government and fiscal responsibility they mean it. Not like the old group of republicans, who were just like the Demorates. Spend spend spend
Isn’t the Norwegian terrorist a fan of the NY Times? With writers like this I can understand why a mass murderer would appreciate the NYT.
Friedman is an idiot, plain and simple.
Freidman says “math and science are not matters of opinion”
So tell me Freidman, what math are you using to avoid coming to the conclusion that the Fed. Gov has spent us into insolvency?
Stupid to the 10th power. Or maybe stupid to an infinite power.
Has anyone ever noticed that Freidman and Krugman look like twins?
@Maggie, They already are rehabilitating Nixon. I have a Liberal friend who backs Obama, loves watching the Daily Show, hates Fox News, supports Obamacare because “it will save money”, denigrates Israel, believes in Keynesian deficit spending and progressive taxation.
About a month ago he was singing the praises of GHWB and even Nixon, as Republicans who could “get the job done”. My jaw almost hit the floor. And this was already after he suggested a second stimulus to spur the economy on practically the same grounds that the failed GWB stimulus a few years ago was predicated on. When I pointed out to him that he was using the same arguments for the same sort of plan that BOOOOOSH implemented, he just switched the topic and kept with his talking points about how the government needs to give people money that the rich have too much of and aren’t investing in the places he wants. Unbelievable…
>Has anyone ever noticed that Freidman and Krugman look like twins?
yes. and they are both assholes.
Cool. So we’re the puppet masters now? Nice.
The place there lacking adult supervision is in DC, vote them all out but the one’s voting the way we want them too and like the TEA Party said, we have a budget lets live by it and stop the automatic 7.5 % raise every program in DC gets every year and grows the government bigger every year.
That would save 8 trillion in 7 or 8 years and stop them from having to interfere with our life’s as they try to make them selfs look needed and spend all the money sent to them or they lost it next year.
