American Troops Serving In Muslim Countries Told To Observe Ramadan Rules In Public…

Are U.S. troops serving in the Philippines told to observe Easter? Of course not, because there’s no such thing as Catholic suicide bombers.

(Stars And Stripes) — As Muslims prepare to observe the holy month of Ramadan with fasting and prayer, U.S. troops across the Middle East are being reminded to respect the customs of the societies around them. Among the guidelines: Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public during the daily fast, and dress appropriately: no shorts or short skirts.

During Ramadan, which this year begins Aug. 1, Muslims refrain from eating or drinking between sunup and sundown.

Among guidance issued to U.S. military deployed in Muslim majority countries, the Bahrain-based command of U.S. Navy 5th Fleet posted guidance for sailors and their family members to heed during Ramadan when off base.

U.S. personnel are not expected to fast during Ramadan, but community members must refrain from eating, chewing gum, drinking water, smoking or chewing tobacco in public during daylight hours, according to 5th Fleet. “‘In public’ includes riding in a bus or car (even your own), walking or exercising,” according to the 5th Fleet’s Facebook page. “Eating, drinking or smoking by a non-Muslim in public during the day is considered a civil offence by many local laws, which may result in a fine or confinement.”

Alcohol consumption by U.S. military personnel in any off-base venue is prohibited during the holiday, with the exception of USO/MWR facilities, private off-base dwellings, or hotel rooms occupied by troops who are transferring or on a business trip.

Shorts are prohibited while off base during Ramadan as well, according to 5th Fleet, and women are required to wear pants or skirts long enough to cover their knees when seated.

Funny how when we’re in THEIR country we have to obey their cultural rules but when these bass-turds are in OUR country, we have to bend over backward to accommodate their culture.

    What’s wrong with that picture?

Worse yet, we’re there protecting these vermin.

Do they have to take off their shoes before killing a terrorist? Seriously, bring all of our soldiers home and let the Middle East implode because they are not worth it in any way.

Eff this– are they really serious???

Where are all the lefties who do not dress modestly and say its their “right” to dress how they want??? Why aren’t ‘feminists’ all outraged about fellow women being told what to wear?

That aside, its ridiculous. When you’re on duty as a soldier, you NEED to eat and drink. (Especially in the heat.)

If they’re that whiny about it, withdraw US aid and troops. Let them go it by themselves in the slimy pit of their making.

This is freaking PC bent over 1000x by idiots who never spent a day in their miserable lives living in a moozie country…

You fast, do your little thing…. but others do not have to do anything more then respect you, meaning I know you’re a moozie and I’d not offer you food because I know you’re so weak in your faith that my offerings would make you break your fast….

I told this story on IOTW, but it bears repeating here. My first exposure to Muslim culture and religion was in 1992-93, when I worked for a Middle Eastern restaurant that was owned by a Syrian man and his Yemeni wife. They were very gracious to their non-Muslim employees (all of the cooks were Muslim, all of the waitstaff and myself, the hostess, were non-Muslim), and during Ramadan, they explained to us why THEY did not eat during daytime, but they did not expect US to refrain from eating, nor did they close the restaurant, because it was a business and they wanted to make money. Overall, my experience working there was pleasant and positive.

In fact, it never occurred to me to be wary of Muslims until after 9/11/2001.

Obama’s recent bizarre statement about Ramadan and equating it to Christians who fast made me think. Some Christians DO fast, but it’s not a pillar of their faith (like, say, tithing or communion), and when they do, it’s between them and God and they don’t make everyone around them accommodate their religious habits. To paraphrase a poster on IOTW, Muslim fasting during Ramadan is nothing more than a big bullhorn advertising how pious they are.

Muslims stuff themselves like pigs all night long, especially right after sundown and before dawn. Many lie around all day taking care not to exert themselves. Some gain weight because of all the indolence and stuffing like pigs at night. Will our soldiers be allowed to follow this example? Or will our soldiers have to suffer while doing their duty as usual because a religion that they do not share is having its own weird little holiday around them?

I was in Abu Dabi during Ramadan in 1994. We also had to follow the Ramadan Rules then too so this is NO surprise. A friend of mine violated the rule and ate a Snickers Bar in public. He got 31 days in prison for that. When he came back to the ship, he had lost a Lot of Weight. He told me that the didn’t feed him or let him bathe in prison. His toilet was one corner of his cell. He slept on the floor on the opposite side to reduce the smell. He survived by eating bugs that were crawling all over his cell. During his third week, he caught a Rat and had good eating for a few days. Have you ever heard of the Statement “When in ROME”?. When in a Foreign Country, it is the Duty of all Military and Civilian Personnel to follow the Rules and Regulations of that Country. Most foreign Countries Don’t Care that you are an American Citizen. A lot of them Despise America so much, they can’t wait for One to Break their rules to make an Example of them. Especially those claiming to be our Allies. We are told that we are American Diplomats and should act as such. I have no Problems with following the Rules in Foreign Countries. Even Middle East Ones.

As Emudude says, this is old, old news. I’m sure it doesn’t apply to combat troops on patrol in Iraq/Afghanistan, though it wouldn’t surprise me if it was “encouraged” to not eat/drink in front of the locals. It’s easy to understand why. The religion of perpetual outrage doesn’t need any encouragement. People have started impromptu riots over non-Muslims eating in front of them during Ramadan. Better to patronize the locals in countries we’re on relatively good terms with than aggravate them. And yes, I’ve been out during Ramadan in Doha. We wore long sleeved button down shirts, long pants, etc, especially the women. Oddly enough, the locals were all in short sleeves, unless of course they were wearing their man-dresses. More women wearing tight jeans in Doha’s shopping district than niqab or whatever else.

Ya see, I should have NEVER left the military. Because if it were me, I would be walking down the street with shorts and eating a MESS of PORK RINES!

I can imagine the conversation I would be having with my C.O.

C.O. ” Weren’t you ordered to not wear shorts and observe Ramadan rules by not eating during sunnup hours?”
ME “Yes sir, but its not my fault.”
C.O. “How is it NOT your fault?”
ME ” This dog tag that you gave me clearly states that my religion is CATHOLIC and I don’t give a FUCK about some RAMADAMDINGDANG Fucking HOLIDAY……………………. sir.”

What happens after that is un-important. The important battle is fighting for your RIGHT to abide by YOUR RELIGION. If I’m over there saving there ASSES then that makes me calling the shots …not them!
Don’t want me there? FINE!,, SEND MY ASS HOME!

And I’ll read about your demise on my front porch, sipping Sweat Tea.

Any country that would punish an American citizen for not obeying their religious laws don’t deserve the ‘pleasure’ of our company. Our soldiers should not have to suffer persecution at the hands of these radical Muslims. If they want/need the presence of our military, they should accommodate OUR needs and beliefs, not the other way around !!!!

Who the hell is running the military? Miss Manners? Nobody but a complete pantywaist would tell our men and women when to eat or how to dress.

It’s not like our people are telling anyone else when or what to eat or drink – hell, the muslims make that choice – so why should our men and women have to toe this line?

Maybe if we had some of the politically correct officers there, pounding the ground with our troops – and maybe some of these assholes in congress too.

It’s easy to legislate when you’re 10,000 feet above the consequences.
