Obama Hangs Painting In White House Depicting Black Girl Being Taunted By Whites During 1960s…

(Politico) — President Barack Obama has taken a decidedly low-key approach to racial issues since he became America’s first black president two years ago. But in a hallway outside the Oval Office, he has placed a head-turning painting depicting one of the ugliest racial episodes in U.S. history.
Norman Rockwell’s “The Problem We All Live With,” installed in the White House last month, shows U.S. marshals escorting Ruby Bridges, a 6-year-old African-American girl, into a New Orleans elementary school in 1960 as court-ordered integration met with an angry and defiant response from the white community.
The thrust of the painting is not subtle. America’s vilest racial epithet appears in letters several inches high at the top of the canvas. To the left side, the letters “KKK” are plainly visible. The crowds, mostly women who gathered daily to taunt Bridges as she went to a largely empty school, are not shown in the picture. But the racist graffiti and a splattered tomato convey the hostile atmosphere.
n 2009, the Obamas also borrowed for the White House’s private spaces a couple of works with racial themes. One was Glenn Ligon’s “Black Like Me No. 2” — which features a repeating line from John Howard Griffin’s 1961 book on the experience of a white man who turned his skin black to study racism in the South: “All traces of the Griffin I had been were wiped from existence.”

I remember that picture. I saw the original in the Rockwell museum. It is definitely a picture from the civil rights era. I believe it was on the front page of the Saturday Evening Post, if I remember correctly. If anything, it should be a reminder that it was the southern Dems who fought Civil Rights Amendment. And it was the Dems who were supportive of the KKK, not the GOP.

Johnson blocked the civil rights act all through the Eisenhower years, and then signed it almost word for word when he became president. Wonder how much better off the people of color would have been if it had been enacted eight years earlier? The dems use the civil rights act to keep them on the slave mental plantation. I am sick of being blamed for everything and taking care of everyone else. Welfare breeds savage animal behavior. Why doesn’t anyone ever remind Obumer he is also white. I give him some credit for having taste–Norman Rockwell was a masterful painter, and the sentimentality of many of his paintings makes us forget just how good he really was–but yeah…this is definitely making an in-your-face point of a part of history we’d rather not be reminded of and apparently will have to pay for without end.

This is a powerful painting by Rockwell. I’ve seen it a few times during my visits to the Rockwell museum in Stockbridge, MA.
It is beautifully rendered, and Rockwell completely captures the vileness of racism by making it’s target a young girl. Yes, there was a time when life was like this, and we ought never to forget, but the beauty and strength in our country lies in its ability to face it’s evils, and correct them.
Rockwell’s “Four Freedoms” (Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear) would have been much, much more appropriate to hang in our capital.
It sickens me to no end that it hangs in the White House. First, because Obama’s a cheap race baiter and sees only the soiled corners of American history, and second, because in the whole body of Rockwell’s works, only the tiniest fraction deal with the negative aspects of American history. Rockwell is often mocked for his portrayal of America as innocent, and patriotic.
It figures of all of Rockwell’s works, this president would choose this painting.
Does anyone find this to be just happenstance that this particular painting was hung around the same time Al Sharpton, (major racist), and the CBC members, Waters and Richardson, come out railing against the Tea Party in extreme racial manners? Is this just a coincidence that the KKK was involved in the subject matter of the painting, and it the painting also had context in regards to the South? You know, the South which clings to guns, Bibles, and their Constitution and will not support His Majesty in the next election. Not to mention the South which has a large Black population coupled with a large Tea Party faction. At least my state does. Just happenstance?
The first thing that happened with the Tea Party was the attempt to isolate it, and attack it as being mostly White, older people, and full to the brim of racists. As townhall meetings took place, and Beck had his rally on the DC Mall, people began to see what they already knew, the Tea Party was young and old, Black, White, Hispanic, Oriental, and that in truth, no one wanted anything other than the Constitution restored to the original intent. (*Note, for the trolls reading this, original intent you morons does not include slavery, because FYI, the original intent was most definitely against slavery. Read a history book troll freak nation! A real one!)
The second thing that happened was when Breitbart showed just how vile the Dems were against Tea Partiers when we saw video of Kenneth Gladney being attacked, and other Conservative Blacks assaulted for attending a Tea Party event. Via Breitbart, we heard Democrats clearly state they wanted to hang Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, or they wanted to “put him back in the fields”. The MSM was silent on these accounts, but places like WZ on the internet were not. Funny thing about the internet, more people are getting their news, and facts from the internet than they are the MSM. Seen the MSM ratings? Yeah, well… enough said-the internet is ruling at the moment.
So, all of this labeling and attacking of the Tea Party with racists slurs, and calling them the new KKK, (Jesse Jackson’s recent reference), up to this point has been more of a lashing out of sorts because Black Democrats are seeing The One’s numbers fall dramatically in the Black communities, and in fact we saw more Blacks running on the Republican side for political offices than ever before in the 2010 elections. We see more Blacks saying that the destruction of the Black family, via the welfare state of the Democrats, is beyond, beyond and they want off this merry-go-round. See one Black man of awesomeness, Lt. Col. Allan West for examples. Some Blacks are fighting back against the racist labeling of the Tea Party, and are fighting back hard. Calling the Democrats out by Blacks is extremely important, and we must support those calling a spade, a spade.
However, the intent here was all Alinsky, all the time, and it is not something we of the pale skin will avoid future trouble with. The flash mobs are in direct connection with the push via the White House/Regime to have Blacks believe anyone who is White is against them, (Tea Party members), has taken their money, wants them poor and uneducated. Most of you here already know this, but the painting coupled with rhetoric from those like Sharpton, Jackson, Waters, etc., go hand in glove to portray those of us in the South as the old South, and for good measure they are tossing in revisionist history to boot. For those living in large cities, you are in grave danger of these flash mobs, but for those of us living in relative smaller cities compared to New York, Detroit, Philly, or Chicago; we are seeing signs of things to come which are very troubling. There will be no place to hide from what the Regime has planned regarding racial relations, and future clashes that they wish to have happen.
This would include the seeds being currently sown by the actions of placing the painting near the Oval Office, and the comments from Black Democrats, the likes of Van Jones, Cornell West, the books the president is reading currently, the Black Panthers, etc., because what is not reaped between now and prior to November of 2012, it will be reaped after the elections. IF a Republican wins, just exactly what is going to happen with the financial and economic conditions of the U.S.? We are still going to be in quicksand, and the cuts to welfare programs is going to be required in order for the country to survive. As Rush and Glenn have said, when you have almost 50% of the country on welfare, what happens when suddenly there are no food stamps? For some of us watching America, and the world unravel, we also ask, what happens when there is a major food shortage? What happens when more corn is used for ethanol than food? What happens when we under plant grains to the tune of over 350 million acres? Uhm, just saying, but the welfare members are going to get very angry, and race will not be the sole issue eventually driving welfare Blacks so much as the sheer ability to eat. The Democrats are planting some racial seeds now that are going to emerge after the 2012 elections, and moves like the one Zip posted are just the beginning in laying the foundation.
An example of how bad things have progressed racially is this encounter we had with a young Black woman in our part of the country. We recently went shoe shopping before returning the kiddies to college. Upon checkout, the young Black woman checking us out spoke to one of our twin girls about colleges. She said, “I attended _____ junior college, which was predominately White, and I wanted to go to a school which was more Black, and so I went to ____”. We are White, and around here for someone to flat out say such a thing as this young Black woman did, to our faces, well I am sure my mouth was hanging wide open. It is just not something which occurs. Not here. Not in the manner she spoke. There is a brazen attitude by young Blacks which I would admire if it was aimed at removing the shackles of the Democrat slavery they have been thrust in, but this brazen attitude in our area of flyover country is something we are all very nervous about, and coupled with the aims of the Regime, it is is hard not to think something wicked this way is coming.
In conclusion to this lengthy post, which I hope some read, I would implore people to remain in check of their emotions and fears. God created all of us, ALL OF US equally. What we choose to do with our equality, what we choose to pursue, how we land on the game board of life is a freedom which God gave us, not the government, not the preachings of some radical church, and not the color of our skin. We are all different, we are of all religions, and some, no religion at all, but at the heart of us is a soul, a morality compass which says we must not hold an entire race of peoples accountable for what a minority of them do. My point is this, as racial tensions increase, and they will, as violence raises our ire, and it will, as we see injustices against Whites take place, and it will; be your better self and curb the temptation to act in a manner which is only going to cause harm to yourself, your family, and inspire more violence. I am not saying to be a pacifist, or to not defend yourself, but I am saying that racial relations will never improve if we who have for so very long wanted to see Blacks free from their current slavery only resort to actions which set back racial relations to a time in our nation’s history which did not reflect our moral compasses. We are, all of us, responsible for where things are now. We abandoned our public school systems to Democrats, we were not brave enough to fight radicals leaders in the Black churches like Rev. Wright, and we did not press to rid ourselves of the pimp squad of Sharpton and Jackson. We have wallowed in our White guilt, and are reaping what we have sown by not fighting harder the Black racism dahozho mentioned above. Most of the time we were too scared to call them out because of the likes of the MSM types, or just plain fear of being attacked like the way Allan West is attacked or Clarence Thomas is attacked. Who could ever forget those Thomas hearings? We cannot be afraid now because this is the last rodeo for America. We are either going to fight the lies of the Regime, and their Alinsky methods by using this painting for propaganda, or we are going to find ourselves under the guns of those who would trade their enslavement for our enslavement. We must not allow the Tea Party to be labeled as racists, and we must not return to an era in our history we all loathed. We need to be planting stronger seeds for a more plentiful and heartier harvest than the one currently being planted by the Regime!
I think rather than “ex-Democratic Senator Robert Byrd” it would be clearer to say “Democrat Former Senator Robert Byrd.” Putting the “ex” prior to Democrat makes it sound as if he left the Democratic Party when they stopped being racist so he could join those racist old white dudes in the GOP…

Used to work in Atlanta and one of the guys in our department, a really nice, college diploma guy was shocked when I told him the Republican party was started by people who were against slavery. The real ironic thing about Obama putting up this painting is that it is not HIS history. He was living overseas or else in Hawaii at the time; and what’s more, he does not share one drop of the same blood as blacks who lived through slavery in America or the prejudice and segregation of the 50s that saw ‘white only’ bathrooms, etc, and forced blacks to sit in the back of the bus. This is not his history, and he shares NOTHING with ‘real’ blacks of America. Think they consider this fact when they blindly support him?

So true. Having resettled refugees of all colors I have been amazed at the racism/bigotry that I saw from the black (African American) community. Even black Africans were not immune. Not saying people here have had White guilt, but there are books recently written about White guilt, (see Shelby Steele’s book. He is a Conservative Black), and my point is more in regards to those books which speak about how too many in public life, as well as private, do not call out the reverse racism which we all have seen take place. White guilt is more about not addressing the root causes of racism, and who is committing the racism; Democrats. It is about people who have not seen we are way past the Civil War, and constantly want to relive it, and the fallout from the wrong of slavery.
Many people, mostly Liberals/Marxists, they do suffer from White guilt. Many in academia want to preach White guilt, and then there are those like Rev. Wright who just want us to have White guilt, and have Holder come around and off everyone who is not “his people”.

Racism exists for anyone who is colored. To be hated simply because you exist and you’re not white. To be spit on, attacked, bullied, beat up, harrassed, insulted, belittled, to lose oppurtunities, ignored, pre-judged, lynched, and even killed. Racism in any form is to be discouraged and hopefully not tolerated by the majority ethnic group. Or the minority groups AS WELL.

Do we see examples of discrimination today? In affirmative action programs? How long have they been implemented and what have been the Empirical results of this Test Case in Social Engineering? Have the results been positive?
I would submit that the results have been negative for both the parties discriminated against and for those who have received the ‘benefit’ of discrimination.
How many instances of Resentment and Anger must we see before we realize that the same mechanism involved in Fostering Dependency in the Welfare system creates Hate and Envy. If these programs truly ARE a help in times of need, the Logical Response would be Gratitude. Instead, resentment and the constant clamouring for More. Envy.

And it gets worse. Blacks are disproportionately represented in government jobs. In fact, hiring blacks in federal jobs is so out of norm with the general population that NASA has the smallest over representation by only hiring 49% more blacks than are in the general population. Blacks make up about 10% of the United States population, but make up about 20%* of the federal government jobs according to a 2010 study by the Office of Personnel Management.
So we’re faced with a brutal dilemma: in order to lighten the pressure of the federal government on the economy and businesses so both can breathe and prosper, we’re going to have to slash the government down in size which will result in many people losing jobs in a time of dire unemployment. And many of those lost jobs will be black jobs.
I cannot see any way, short of an act of God, for this nation to get out of this trench. We had a chance years ago and instead chose to vote more people in who’d spend more and more and I think its too late now.
*Excluding USPS workers; including them, the percentage of blacks is about 18%.

it’s FALSE White Guilt. I never owned a slave although my great grandfather’s family did. They were freed before the War of Northern Aggression and yet they stayed on the farm and worked for the benefit of his family and theirs. Those former slaves got their freedom and their dignity already. Their descendants are not ‘owed’ anything more. They have the same opportunities as every other US Citizen. And would have had it sooner if the Republicans had had their way and the Democrats had not thwarted them.
