(ABC News) — Employees of media giant Comcast have contributed more money to President Obama’s reelection bid than employees from any other organization, according to a new analysis of Federal Election Commission data by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Comcast employees contributed nearly $80,000 directly to Obama for America and roughly $200,000 to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint account benefitting both the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee, through the first half of 2011 records show.
Comcast, the nation’s largest video and internet services provider, is the parent company of NBCUniversal, which owns broadcast networks NBC and Telemundo among other assets.
President Obama has recently spent time with top Comcast executives, attending an intimate fundraiser at the home of Comcast executive vice president David Cohen in Philadelphia in June and a private “social reception” at the Martha’s Vineyard estate of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts earlier this week.
Roberts, who serves on the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, has not yet personally contributed to Obama’s campaign, according to FEC records.

I hope that whatever deal Roberts got will be worth all the hassle he’ll receive from the next administration.

(WMC-TV) – Comcast is launching a program to offer internet and free computers to families with kids on free lunch.
State and local officials, educators and Comcast say the program is designed to help low-income families bridge the digital divide.
“This is an effort to try to shrink the gap that exists between those that have internet access and those that don’t,” Memphis City Schools board president Martavius Jones said.
While America has increasingly become a digital nation, many low-income families are left at a great disadvantage because they don’t have Internet service at home. But the Internet Essentials program is hoping to change that.
Families with children who receive a free school lunch as part of their enrollment in the National School Lunch program will now be given the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits the Internet provides.
“We know the internet is powerful,” Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell said. “We know Comcast is a leader in this initiative to move the internet into classrooms and homes.”
Families who qualify for the program will each receive a voucher to purchase a low-cost computer for $149 dollars. They will be eligible to receive residential Internet service for $9.95 a month with no price increases or activation fees.
“The essentials of the internet is just critical,” Memphis Mayor A C Wharton said. “You can’t do without it. There’s nothing optional about this access at all.”

The purpose is to indoctrinate low-income kids, and their parents, to get those Democrat votes. The “low-cost computer” will be set up with pre-installed software that’ll point it to MSNBC stuff, you can bet on that.
