Daily Beast/Newsweek Writer Says Hurricane Irene The Direct Result Of Global Warming…

You know, because hurricanes are such a recent weather phenomenon.

Global Warming’s Heavy Cost — Daily Beast/Newsweek

Irene’s got a middle name, and it’s Global Warming.

As she roars up the Eastern Seaboard, everyone is doing what they should — boarding windows, preparing rescue plans, stocking up on batteries. But a lot of people are also wondering: what’s a “tropical” storm doing heading for the snow belt?

Category 3 Storms have rarely hit Long Island since the 1800s; one was the great unnamed storm of 1938, which sent 15-foot storm waters surging through what are now multimillion-dollar seaside homes. Normally, says Jeff Masters of Weather Underground, it’s “difficult for a major Category 3 or stronger hurricane crossing north of North Carolina to maintain that intensity, because wind shear rapidly increases and ocean temperatures plunge below the 26°C (79°F) level that can support a hurricane.” The high-altitude wind shear may help knock the storm down a little this year, but the ocean temperatures won’t. They’re bizarrely high — only last year did we ever record hotter water.

“Rarely” doe snot mean “Never.” Did global warming cause the hurricane of 1938? No. So if global warming did not cause the hurricane of 1938, why does that mean the global warming caused the hurricane of 2011?

With people like this, I often wonder are they really that stupid, or simply willfully disingenuous?

Bill McKibben – the notorious protester/jailbird. He is only an authority on pontification and impressing college coeds.

It is Bush’s fault because he didn’t help the Katrina victims fast enough…. thus, they had to send many of the Katrina ‘victims’ North to live in NY and other Northeastern communities for free… those hot-blooded people raised the water temp up North because they were swimming (regular people pay rent and can’t afford a beach excursion right now), which is making the Hurricane stronger and wetter….. Oh Mr. Bush… why didn’t you react fast enough to stop this weather when you had the chance???

Well, that’s kind of a problem, because if you take out the “corrections” that NASA and NOAA have put into a great deal of their temperature records, the northern hemisphere has been cooling since 1998. And yet we still have hurricanes (and blizzards and snow storms and heat waves and cold snaps).

Supposedly Bush can steer hurricanes, I wonder if he’s going to crash this one into Washington?

I think America has been suffering from a self-inflicted illness of apathy and political laziness that invited so much nasty infection to our system. I believe we just might be about to see a major cleansing of this socialist/communist/Marxist disease as we seriously begin to bring ourselves back from the cirrhosis in this nation.

Did you know when turds float on the surface it’s usually an indication of something wrong with the body’s “filter” (the liver). The fecal matter is desperately floating to the surface in this country right now…

Come 2012 I think there will be a very loud flushing sound across the country.

I have been waiting for this from some super commie/greenie. The USA has not had a direct hit from any hurricane in 1081 days anywhere. It has been seven years for the east coast. Why has globull warming been waiting all this time? Weepy Bill, gimme an answer.

These alarmist are morons…won’t they ever stop spouting their inane crap?

The hurricane season has been very mild the past 3 years or so, and now here comes Irene and they shout that it’s the end of the world. Idiots.

Here’s a clue….hurricanes, their qualtity and intensity are CYCLIC. Climate is CYCLIC.

Sometimes these monkey wrenchers need to go outside and look up….maybe that big yellow thing in the sky has something to do with it all.

  21. deez says:

Um…in 1985 Hurricane Gloria slammed Long Island followed by Hurricane Bob in 1991, both had category 2-3 winds at landfall.

Strong hurricanes hitting the Northeast are rare, but not unprecendented and this idiot fails to point out the many examples more recent than the 1930′s. I don’t remember anyone worrying about the possibility of an increasing frequency of Northeast hurricanes in 1991, nor anyone screeching about global warming.

Hurricanes form every year. They can barely predict if they will hit the Gulf, Florida, North Carolina, or the Northeast after they form, nevermind identify a HUMAN variable in the course they take.

  22. deez says:
    August 26, 2011 at 11:40 am

    Keep Honking,

We actually make PREPARATIONS for impending hurricanes in the Northeast. People are evacuated beforehand, generators are trucked in in anticipation of power outages. In other words, we are not completely incompetent as they were in New Orleans/Louisiana.

Your hope for a “chimp out” (which I guess is racist code) is in vain. Being that we are so “progressive” here, those who are “chimps” to you will actually see their needs taken care of before anyone else.

I’m in my 60s. I can remember a number of hurricanes from when I was a kid. I remember Tropical Storm Agnes that caused greater flooding in my home area than had ever been seen before. Global Warming hadn’t even been invented back then. It wasn’t until Al Gore saw an opportunity for socialist control and obscene profits did we have Global Warming. Global Warming is a Category 5 Scam and if a scam can cause a hurricane, Washington DC would have been blown away a long time ago. Hurricane Irene can be attributed to one factor, Nature.

  25. Texasron says:

The Global Warming Pimps have for years been predicting more high intensity hurricanes for the US but they never came. Now, they can breathe a sigh of relief and renew their false claims.

  26. GrumpyOne says:
    August 26, 2011 at 1:55 pm

This type of rhetoric is amusing if not downright wrong.

One only has to look back at the Great Hurricane of 1938 to see a Cat 3 storm strike the upper east coast.

As a trained meteorologist, I laugh at alarmist musings as they are just that.

So far, with the exception of Irene, this year’s tropical season has been a bust. Lot’s of named storms that never became hurricanes and did little or no damage.

Ignore the loons and focus on reality… The sun controls climate and trumps all other contributing factors.

  28. Nemesis says:

I remember hurricane Camille in 1969. I lived on the outer fringe at the time and saw little damage, but rode into Mississippi afterwards and saw the effects. That was a Cat 5, with 180 mph winds, and 24 foot surge.

Irene is a pus compared to Camille (many others have been as bad or worse). Irene is a mild blow in comparison.

This scare is ALL politics. They want you scared, that way the government “will step in and protect you” all you have to do in give up all your rights. Fuck that.

Irene is mild. All in the path….board up, get to higher elevation, have food and water. In a fews days it will be OK again.
