AP Poll: Number Of Liberals Who View Obama As A “Strong Leader” Falls From 53% To 29%…

Mega-heartache.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Whites and women are a re-election problem for President Barack Obama. Younger voters and liberals, too, but to a lesser extent.

All are important Democratic constituencies that helped him win the White House in 2008 and whose support he’ll need to keep it next year.

  • Women no longer are a bright spot for Obama.

At the 100-day mark of his presidency, they gave him significantly higher approval ratings than did men, 68 percent to 60 percent. That’s since fallen dramatically.

In the latest AP-GfK survey, less than half of all women and less than half of all men approve of the job Obama is doing. Just 50 percent of women said Obama deserves re-election.

Still, women are more likely than men to see Obama as empathetic or a strong leader, and they give him sharply higher positive ratings on his handling of the economy. Forty-three3 percent of women approve, compared with 29 percent of men.

  • Younger voters and liberals are showing doubts about him, too.

Obama won younger voters in 2008 by a bigger margin than Democrat Bill Clinton in his victories in 1992 and 1996. But younger Democrats are no more apt to say the president deserves re-election than are older Democrats. Twenty-seven percent of Democrats under age 45 say Obama is not a strong leader, compared with 11 percent in June.

While a majority of liberals continue to say they view Obama as a strong leader, the strength of those opinions dropped sharply this summer. The share of liberals who say “strong leader” describes Obama “very well” has fallen from 53 percent to 29 percent in the aftermath of the debt-ceiling debate.

“Sometimes he needs to put his foot down and not be the nice guy,” said Democrat Kathleen Salak, 44, of Omaha, Neb.

The most recent AP-GfK poll was conducted Aug. 18-22 by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Corporate Communications. It involved landline and cellphone interviews with 1,000 adults nationwide and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

Maybe in another 20 years, it will dawn on them that socialism and communism are bad, mmkay?

But I doubt it. You cant fix stupid.

How do people keep coming up with the advice that he needs to stop being Mr. Nice Guy?

From the flyover of Manhattan in May, 2009, to his recently having told a man to get a car with better mileage when the man complained about high gas prices, Obama’s instincts are always toward cruelty.

I kept wondering why, if the numbers are that bad for Obama, hasn’t the Democrat party started looking around for someone to run against him in the primary. Why are there no sharks scenting blood in the water? Apparently, not even Hillary.

I have to admit it made me nervous, knowing the Democrat penchant for voter fraud.

But then, it occured to me. What if they have backed themselves into a corner?
For almost three years we’ve heard thousands of claims that anyone opposing Obama is a racist. And they have sold that false notion to the black community hook, line and sinker!

Therefore, any Democrat who runs against Obama is dead meat as far as the black community goes. And the Democrat party cannot possibly support an opponent to Obama without risking the loss of the most easily manipulated and largest bloc of votes they have.

So, unless they can come up with another black candidate for president, they are stuck with Obama.

I wonder which is more important to them: The presidency? Or avoiding a possibly lingering animosity from their most loyal voters?

As Obama continues to fail in every aspect of his (so-called) presidency, the Left HAVE to abandon him; it’s either that, or admit to the inherent failure of socialism, which they will never ever ever ever do. They can get another tool to continue to implement socialism in the future, to pick up where Obama left off. But they can never admit that it was the ideas that Obama followed that were the actual failure. Throw the person under the bus to preserve the ideas, so that once again, socialism only fails because the wrong person was running it.

  16. Thunder Lizard says:

@ Katherine – a very thoughtful analysis. An astute observation that no democrat, not even Hilary Dilary is stepping forward and pointing out the obvious failure of their messiah. Are we not that far enough along in the primary season, or is the big money behind the Democrats (Soros and that ilk) still looking favorably on Obama?

I still tend to think that when push comes to shove on election day, that 29% will grow back to 40% for Obama. Most of those on entitlements are going to go back to Obama no matter how bad it is. However much they may be unhappy with O, they despise and loathe Republicans and conservatirves even more.

I think the real issue for or side is going to be split votes or people who “sit out” the election because they are displeased with the Republican candidate. A shift in the conservative vote of 10% (plus some voter fraud on the Dem side) could give the election to Obama. Hope I’m wrong but we are so polarized as a nation, that’s how I see it coming down.

“Sometimes he needs to put his foot down and not be the nice guy,” said Democrat Kathleen Salak, 44, of Omaha, Neb.”

I agree, Kathleen. But not for the same reasons.

See, this is where Leftists are mental. They actually think he’s compromised too much. They’ll mention the tax breaks. The debt limit debate. Public option in health care. Stimulus being too small.

But let’s look at this from a factual point of view.

The Dems shoved the stimulus down our throats. Republicans couldn’t stop it if they tried.

The Dems shoved health care down our throats. Republicans couldn’t stop it if they tried.

Obama and the Dems weren’t ‘being nice’. They were ruthless, vicious thugs who ran roughshod over DC for two years.

And what did that get them? Nov. 2, 2010. A near historic ass-kicking by the electorate.

Since then, they’ve HAD to be more accommodating simply because they have no choice. They HAVE to compromise.

Being nice has nothing to do with it, Bimbostein.

    Now, back your original request.

Yes. I want him to stop being ‘nice.’ I want him to be the complete asshole I think he is. I want everyone with two functioning brain cells to see him with the mask fully dropped and he’s exposed as a two-bit chump throwing a temper tantrum.

And then I want him – and you – routed in November, 2012.

“I think the real issue for or side is going to be split votes or people who “sit out” the election because they are displeased with the Republican candidate.”

Can’t speak for anyone else, but yes I will be sitting out the election if some hack like Perry or Romney is put forth as our “choice” in 2012. I vote on principle, not party lines.

Statist, morality legislating, neo-cons need to understand that the GOP is finished if they don’t stop being such hypocrites when it comes to spending and “preemptive” wars. It’s time to return to TRUE fiscal conservative values, so either the old war mongers wake up or the party is destroyed, plain and simple.

    @Slaughter the Sheeple

I think you’re wrong. He will not win again. He no longer has what was his most valuable asset. Many would say his only asset.

The novelty of being America’s first black president.

And all the politically correct propaganda regarding his election as moving past race and a guarantee of racial healing has proven to be patently false.

I’m not saying we won’t have a squeaker, but we will win with the right candidate.

In the end, people like to eat. And they like having a roof over their heads. And when those things are in jeopardy, people start voting Republican.

I don’t care whether you vote or not.

    @popcorn

Your principles sound very much like foolishness to me. A wise man once said that ‘what many claim as principle is nothing more than pride’. Another said, ‘the starving man knows that consuming bland food is wiser than refusing to eat anything but what he wants’.

In other words: Perfection is the enemy of good.
