Iowa GOP to Bachmann: Drop the “Barack Obama rock star crap”

Going down in a blaze of glory.

(FOX News) — Not two weeks removed from cheers surrounding her momentous victory at the Iowa GOP’s Straw Poll, there is a growing chorus of criticism about the way Rep. Michele Bachmann has been conducting her campaign in the Hawkeye State.

Can the “Barack Obama rock star crap.”

That comes from Judd Saul, who helped organize the Blackhawk County Lincoln Day Dinner. The fundraiser, which was the day after the Straw Poll, was Texas Governor Rick Perry’s first presidential campaign event in Iowa.

It was held in Waterloo, a place where she is no stranger. Bachmann proudly states she is from Waterloo and It is also where she officially launched her White House bid.

But Saul says Bachmann’s behavior at the dinner left folks “kinda pissed.”

“(Perry) sat with people, talked with people. (Bachmann) acted like a rock star, refused to eat dinner with us,” he said. “If Michele Bachmann is the hometown girl, from Waterloo, she should dine with us.”

Instead, Saul points out Bachmann spent time on her campaign bus, only entering for her turn to speak at the event after she was introduced twice.

Out in Western Iowa, the chairman of the Pottawattamie County Republican Party, Jeff Jorgenson tells Fox News, “(Bachmann) hasn’t been making herself available…as far as retail politics is concerned, she’s got a long way to go.”

In large part, Republican ire at Bachmann comes because she is seen as not fully embracing the ‘“rules” of Iowa campaigning.

Unlike most other states, Iowans expect candidates, even ones for ‘leader of the Free World’, to linger at events to talk with every person left in the room. Presidential hopefuls are also expected to take questions from not only the local media, but also everyday Iowans.

Fox News has found through conversations with Iowa Republican operatives and GOP regulars that Bachmann has developed a reputation as a campaigner who likes friendly photo-ops, autographs and taking pictures with supporters. But she is also frequently late to events and often does not take questions.

Craig Robinson, founder of the conservative ’blog TheIowaRepublican.com, says Bachmann also needs to keep in mind, the Iowa campaign has changed dramatically.

“Campaigning in advance of the Straw Poll was easy, especially against a weak field with limited resources. (Bachmann’s) now in the big leagues. Mitt is the Red Sox. Perry is the Yankees, and Bachmann is that team that can have a magical year if things go exactly right. They can’t take Iowa for granted even after winning the Straw Poll because Perry is licking his chops.”

Even a key Bachmann backer at the Straw Poll says her campaign has to change.

“The race started over after the straw poll,” note Ryan Rhodes, director of the Iowa Tea Party.

“(Bachmann) needs to work on being more accessible and punctual to events. These are things I’m hearing from Tea Partiers around the state and I hope her campaign irons out these kinks.”

The Bachmann campaign didn’t respond to a Fox News request Thursday for its take on the Iowa complaints but did note the congresswoman had to cancel some planned events in the state for House votes back in Washington.

A campaign representative previously told Fox News that Bachmann talks to crowds before and after campaign events but that some times they have to hustle the candidate off to the next stop.

Most of the time Bachmann has spent on the campaign trail has been split between South Carolina and Iowa. The time she spent in the Hawkeye State leading up to the Ames straw poll is credited with propelling her to her first-place finish.

Rhodes says he has made attempts to let the Bachmann campaign know about its alleged Iowa transgressions, but he hasn’t heard from anyone with the campaign since the Straw Poll.

She spend tons of time in Iowa. Judd Saul may be an asshole for all we know. Just because someone gets an opportunity to say something to the media does it make it the truth? NOOOOOOOO.

Fox News can’t be trusted. I feel they are trying to sway this Rebublican Primary already.

I find myself guilty of hypocrisy here. I have a friend who hates Sarah Palin, even though she agrees with most of what Palin stands for. The only reason she can give is, “She annoys me.” Lately I’ve realized I have that same reaction to Bachmann.

Iowa, Schmiowa, for a piss ant little state that survives on farm subsides, these folks have a lot to say. We don’t hear a peep out of ‘em until campaign season starts and then we’re deluged with their opinions.

Maybe it’s time for another state to be first?

I almost wanted to like her, but she’s said some things that I just can’t agree with. Oh, the whole IRS thing too.

And didn’t she only win Ames by 0.9%? And that’s after she bribed people with Randy Travis, lol.

She tries to sell herself as anti-establishment, but she’s not doing a very good job at it. Now all that’s needed is to turn people away from Rick Romney….I mean Mitt Perry.

    @Ma Kettle
Of course they are. The media does this every single time. They feed us fakes and pretend like there’s a choice just because of a little R or D next to their names. And yet, so many people still fall for the propaganda.

    @Diamond Girl

A Perry/West ticket would be unbeatable, IMHO.

    =========

Bachmann will be increasingly in meltdown mode.
It is already becoming embarrassing to watch. She should get out now while she still has some dignity left.
I really liked how she stood up to Pelosi, and she has some good basic principles on cost cutting and reducing spending.

But I thought it very presumptuous of her to create that ‘Tea Party Caucus’ in the House……it was as though she was appointing herself the queen of the Tea Party.
It’s not something that the Tea Party was crying out for her to do.
The Tea Party is more of a shared sentiment…a set of ideals…that millions of people adhere to.
There is not just one big ‘tea party organization’ that can be corraled by any one politician, there are a lot of separate organized groups……and a lot of people who simply agree with them but aren’t active in the tea party functions.

I want to like Michele but she struck me as an opportunistic backstabber by hiring Ed Rollins. You can’t genuinely be about the Tea Party while hiring such an establishment hack who doesn’t hesitate to trash Sarah Palin. Plus she makes these dumbass mistakes in prepared statements that indicates a ridiculous inattention to detail; how hard is it not to get John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy confused?

We’ve been given a lot of little clues that Bachmann is the Republican establishment’s ‘alternative’ to Sarah Palin.
Her hiring of that hack, Ed Rollins, is one of them.

Trent Lott said that thing about “We must coop the new tea party people”.
And then Bachmann forms her ‘Tea Party Caucus’?
    Hmmm.

Her gaffes will be played back over and over by the Obama media. Even though they completely ignore Obama’s gaffes and blatant lies. Biden’s too.
That Bachmann gaffe about Elvis will lose her the Elvis fan votes….which could be millions.

I have really liked Bachmann’s fighting spirit in the House.
But she can’t seriously hope to win.
And her staying in the race is making me wonder even more if the establishment Republicans want her to stay in just to split the ‘tea party vote’ to help Mitt win.

  19. Vinny says:
    August 27, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I’m taking some of the comments here with a grain of salt. Let’s be honest, our Republican candidate HAS TO BE PERFECT on every comment, insinuation or they are crucified by the MSM. The Dems don’t have to worry at all.

On another note, has anyone noticed all the Democrat governors all over the TV screen over Irene when they were so bad with Katrina.

“Retail Politics”. Good one. That is exactly what it has come to. RINO.

The Tea Party is the Silent Majority no longer being silent. I agree about the caucus thing. They can be united w/out it. But it sure does piss off the left:)

The woman never had a chance from the get go. However, this political season is going to be just beyond nasty and brutal. So I can take only so much of what “the media” reports and quotes from people that have been spun. Video out the horses mouth is different. Maybe she had diarrhea or a migraine and needed to stay on the bus, who knows? The whole article is nothing but an assault piece against Bachmann. And it worked.

I see Rubio keeping his word about not running for VP. The best bet for a sure win would be Perry and West. West has already said he would take a VP position.

Keep in mind now, whether Bachmann, Sarah Palin, or any other GOP candidate wins or loses they can strongly influence the vote as well as the electoral votes. This allows for them to have a strong influence over the Republican Platform which is extremely critical this time around given the disasterous economy under Obama.

No matter what any of the candidates do…some faction of GOP/Independents will find fault.

There are so many volatile issues and any one of them will divide us. Take immigration. Our govt. have totally messed up the process, and it is up to voters to determine which candidate will provide an effective way to control the borders and provide special work permits, NOT amnesty, for illegals, and deportation of all criminals. We cannot walk away from any candidate on 1 oe 2 issues.

It was weird to see a supposed TEA Party candidate choose Ed Rollins to run her campaign. After which she suddenly “disappears” from conservative talk radio. Where before you couldn’t keep her off of it; schmoozing with the big guns like Levin, Hewitt, Hannity. Heck, she even was on Tammy Bruce’s online radio show once. And Tammy respects Bachmann as a person, but could do without most of her views on the social issues!

If Bachmann is willing to let Rollins have her rise above everyone else by stepping on them and not by her own accomplishments, then they deserve to be “has-beens” together; after all is said and done!

Or maybe he wants to bring the USA down to mexican standards, so then we could work for cheaper wages.

The fact that Rick Perry was the 1st U.S. Governor to reward ILLEGAL ALIENS with in-state tuition, says it all. He knows a Fence won’t work, when TRAITORS invite the ILLEGALS “to come on in” with-rewards for their crimes, like in-state tuition, free K-12 education, paid by the victim U.S. citizens, the benefit of popping out a kid and exploiting our 14th amendment, free healthcare and having TRAITORS like Perry, McCain, OBAMA and the DEMONCRATS representing them.
