NY Times Paul Krugman: Rick Perry Daring To Question Global Warming Is “Vile,” The Right Is “Anti-Intellectualism”…

Paul Krugman is smarter than us. Just ask him, he’ll tell you.

Republicans Against Science — NY Times, Paul Krugman

Jon Huntsman Jr., a former Utah governor and ambassador to China, isn’t a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination. And that’s too bad, because Mr. Hunstman has been willing to say the unsayable about the G.O.P. — namely, that it is becoming the “anti-science party.” This is an enormously important development. And it should terrify us.

To see what Mr. Huntsman means, consider recent statements by the two men who actually are serious contenders for the G.O.P. nomination: Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

Mr. Perry, the governor of Texas, recently made headlines by dismissing evolution as “just a theory,” one that has “got some gaps in it” — an observation that will come as news to the vast majority of biologists. But what really got peoples’ attention was what he said about climate change: “I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects. And I think we are seeing almost weekly, or even daily, scientists are coming forward and questioning the original idea that man-made global warming is what is causing the climate to change.”

That’s a remarkable statement — or maybe the right adjective is “vile.”. . .

And the deepening anti-intellectualism of the political right, both within and beyond the G.O.P., extends far beyond the issue of climate change.

    UNDERGROUND by Barack Obama

    Under water grottos, caverns
    Filled with apes
    That eat figs.
    Stepping on the figs
    That the apes
    Eat, they crunch.
    The apes howl, bare
    Their fangs, dance,
    Tumble in the

    Musty, wet pelts
    Glistening in the blue.

God made this planet, and all that is on it, for mankind, and he made it to heal itself when man leaves it alone to do so. When man puts himself above God, and thinks he can do a better job then he is in trouble.
Just look at this planet, it’s size and scope. The way it goes through cycles of heat and cold, of rain and snow, summer, winter, morning and night, never any changes for thousands of years, yet man has decided that we are ruining it. What balderdash!!
God gave us oil, fossel fuels, and many other wonderful things for our use. He gave us water, and a marvelous way to grow food after it’s kind. We know Corn seed won’t make beans. The scientists at Great Britain’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) admit to using statistical sleights of hand to change the temperature record, so as to show more warming.

And then, in a total flouting of the scientific method, they tossed out all the original raw data so that no other scientist could check their work.

Remarkably, a panel — including a number of persons who stood to gain financially from a global-warming panic or who were personal friends of the accused — found nothing wrong with what the CRU scientists did.

Move along; nothing to see here.

Given the growing body of evidence showing that human activity has little if anything to do with global warming, it is time to stop questioning Governor Perry’s beliefs and turn the questions the other way.

It would be good to hear the media ask candidates who support the tenets of global-warming theory why they believe it is worth putting a huge and unsustainable burden on an already weak economy.

Make no mistake about it, the warmist agenda aims at nothing less than a curtailment of individual freedoms and the further destruction of our economy.

You can’t be rich if you’re energy poor. When did this become something Republicans could support? For that matter, when did it become something thinking Democrats could support?

The warmists always claim to be great believers in science and math. So here is a math problem I want them to solve.

We know that GDP and carbon use are closely correlated.

In fact, given the current state of technology, the 60 to 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions the warmists call for would reduce our GDP by approximately 40 percent.

    The problem therefore is simple:

How are the warmists going to find employment for the people thrown out of work by a downturn twice as deep as the Great Depression?

A list of the top 50 economists lists Krugman at 15th and Krueger at 36th.

As chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Krueger’s salary would be $191,300 a year. In his last full year as a professor at Princeton, Krueger made $369,807, according to his financial disclosure report.

Krueger supplemented that income with consulting, board memberships and speeches, including $7,000 from Goldman Sachs for a speech in June 2008.

As council chairman, Krueger would again be working with National Economic Council director Gene Sperling, who left Treasury earlier this year to replace Summers and also drew money from Goldman before joining the administration, earning $887,727 for advice on that company’s charitable giving.

Careful there Gov Perry, AlGore is gonna blow out his inner chakra when he hears about this. You dare question the great Oz? The science is settled (or we’ll call you a racist)..

Did the “Profit Gore” ever get around to mentioning that our atmosphere is only ~ 0.039% CO2? You can’t even see it on a pie chart. 1 marble out of a box of 3000 marbles is a CO2 marble. Soo, it’s rather plain to see that if you add a small sliver of another C02 marble to the box that you’ll trigger a warming apocalypse. Oh wait.. huh?? That would have to be one hard working sliver fragment!

That said, through the magic of life process plants are astonishingly able to extract that carbon from the air. In our office for example there’s an ivy that’s probably around ~ 100′ long. Yet it’s roots are in a tiny pot, and the tiny pot soil level never goes down. All it gets is water. The plant took everything it needed to build its entire 100′ of carbon structure from the air (amazing!).

Similar with say, Douglas Firs in the Pac NW. They grow 200+ feet high, huge beautiful trees, straight up. Yet they have a relatively tiny root ball (they tip over ~ easily), and the soil area never goes down. All that lumber they make comes from the carbon in the air (truly amazing!)..

Perry’s response when asked about the mandate:

His third question from the crowd was about an issue that his critics have touched on — his 2007 mandate for girls to get vaccinated against the cervical cancer-causing HPV virus.
“I signed an executive order that allowed for an opt-out, but the fact of the matter is I didn’t do my research well enough to understand that we needed to have a substantial conversation with our citizenry,” he said. “I hate cancer. Let me tell you, as a son who has a mother and father who are both cancer survivors.”
Perry said he’d invested government resources in cancer cures, adding, “I hate cancer. And this HPV, we were seeing young ladies die at the early age. What we should have done was a program that frankly should have allowed them to opt in, or some type of program like that, but here’s what I learned — when you get too far out in front of the parade they will let you know. And that’s exactly what our legislature did…”
