Federal Judge Strikes Down Key Provision In Texas Law Requiring a Sonogram Before Having An Abortion…

Judicial activism strikes again.

(AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday struck down key provision of Texas’ new law requiring a doctor to perform a sonogram before an abortion, ruling that the measure violates the free speech rights of both doctors and patients.

The law — one of dozens of anti-abortion measures that advanced through state capitals across the United States this year — was set to take effect Thursday.

A New York-based reproductive rights group had sued to block the law.

U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks said in his ruling that requiring a doctor to show women images from the sonogram and the sounds of the fetal heartbeat violates the First Amendment rights of doctors.

Violates free speech?!? Silly me, here I thought that doctors were supposed to properly disclose medical information to their patients. Can’t imagine why PP wouldn’t want women fully informed…oh, right.

So another state or group can override what the citizens of Texas are asking their elected officials to do?

Only citizens of Texas have a dog in this fight.

Nothing is prohibiting the doctors from showing sonograms! However, you can’t make a doctor do that. Aren’t you conservatives the same people who flipped shit about “making” people buy healthcare? Make up your damn minds on whether you want the government telling you what to do.

This makes no sense to me. What First Amendment rights. What free speech is this guy talking about.

On the other hand, I’m not sure that I want to understand.

Once again I am of the mind that The Republic of Texas is a great idea and the time has come to declare, and maintain our freedom from tyranny once again…

sonogram machines are cost effective ,what the doctors want is a urine test analyst so the chemical mags have never ending work. atheist doctors reducing us to the level of a test strip.

It really boils down to this: the unborn have no rights. Selfishness lives up to its name. Next are the elderly. Oops, its already happening in Oregon.

A woman considering an abortion may very well make a decision she will regret the rest of her life. What is wrong with allowing her to fully realize the implications of that decision while she still has a choice?

I thought feminists to empower women. This law empowers women. The truth is that a lot of people make a lot of money and have a lot of political power because of abortion. Women are merely cannon fodder to the political left.

Uh, what about the First Amendment Right to say the Hypocratic Oath? If a doctor says it, doesn’t it mean protecting life, even that of the unborn? Or is this all just “if you say something, you don’t have to do it, even under a voluntary oath” versus “you don’t live in Texas so piss off” and mean it? Kinda like BarryO swearing under oath to protect and defend the Constitution and all our laws but then pretty much running guns and ignoring any laws and treaties that are inconvenient to the marxist/islamic nonsense he was nurtured with.

    I’m so confused.

I dont think we should have to pay taxes if we feel it violates our 1st amendment rights. We should not have to listen to a judge, because he’s violating our first amendment rights. I want to go live in the White House and take advantage of my first amendment rights ….

Where they hell do these sub-human judges come from? I say term limits for *EVERY* federal employee – especially judges. Apparently spending time on the bench does nothing to increase their wisdom or common sense.

One of the very first pieces of legislation President Barry signed lifted the Mexico City Policy, thereby allowing US tax dollars to be used overseas for abortions. Abortion is the (Un)Holy Grail of this administration…no doubt this federal judge received his orders directly from the White House. We have record unemployment, record national debt, war on 3 fronts, and this president chooses to focus his attention on an issue that is clearly a state issue. Our threat isn’t from outside…we are being destroyed from within.

Uggh…it seems the only way abortion is going to be rid in this country is either Jesus coming or judges meeting their master.

So do the blue state laws that mandate certain procedures be covered by insurance violate the free speech rights of doctors, insurance companies and/or their patients?
Do the laws that require reporting of rape, child sexual abuse, bullet wounds, and/or vaccinations violate the free speech rights of patients, doctors?
    What a moron.

This was the right decision. Whatever happens between a doctor and a patient is none of the governments business, neither fed, state or local. Social conservatives and liberals are both a bunch of statists arguing over what parts of our freedom should be taken away.

A potential person is not an actual person, as an acorn isn’t a tree, and interfering with a voluntary trasaction between a doctor and a patient is an example of the big government conservatives, allegedly, oppose.

And of course rights are violated by “blue state laws that mandate certain procedures be covered by insurance.” These need to go.
