House Republicans Seek To Cut All U.S. Funding For U.N. Climate Change Agencies…

Sweet.

WASHINGTON — House Republicans are applying a search and destroy tactic to international funding for global warming this budget season. It goes like this: Ax any line items with the words “climate change.”

Their primary targets are a pair of crucial United Nations initiatives designed to slow warming worldwide and educate policymakers about the evolving science of climate change.

On the chopping block for 2012 are millions in funding for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world’s leading scientific advisory body on global warming. The IPCC shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Vice President Al Gore in 2007, and governments often use its periodic reviews of climate risks to set targets for reducing carbon emissions.

The GOP-led effort would also cut all U.S. funding for the 19-year-old U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the main forum for the global effort to limit emissions of heat-trapping gases. UNFCCC climate treaty talks are mired in longstanding rich-poor rifts and mistrust of the United States for its refusal to ratify the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and accept binding emissions limits.

Those who support the cutbacks say they are a sign of severe belt-tightening times. But critics say Republicans are using the budget crisis to hide their loathing of any kind of climate initiative.

Even though eliminating funding for IPCC and UNFCCC has little chance of gaining traction in the Democrat-majority Senate, some worry that the negative messages these efforts are sending will reverberate around the globe and neuter this nation’s ability to lead on the climate front.

Until they agree to stop waging a stealth war against American sovereignty, all US funding of the UN should cease.

Who the hell do they think they are? No one that we’re prohibited by design, from voting for or against, is allowed to make rules for us. This violates our system of checks and balances.

The US is a ‘government of the people’. It is incompatible with the system of ‘government by elites’ that the UN practices. Leaders must be accountable to the voters!

I agree that we should cut off all funding for the UN, should cut all ties to it, including sending representatives to the monstrosity. If we did that, it would die a natural death in short order. In the meantime, we should simply issue a directive to the effect that we no longer recognize the diplomatic status or immunity of any UN official who acts outside the auspices of their nation’s legitimate diplomatic post. And yes, I know none of that stands a remote chance of happening, no matter who we elect. But its damn nice to dream.

Let’s take a look at some indisputable facts and see if any of them line up with the GW pushers:

1850′s temp were about 0.6 degrees (C) cooler then today.

1850 was a known low temp in the mini ice age.

    CO2 is a greenhouse gas

Man produces about 7% of the total CO2 made annually.

CO2 has always followed temperature, never led it. (The planet warms, CO2 rises afterward) The planet cools, CO2 goes down (after)

Man could not live without some greenhouse effect.

The warmest temp in recorded history (roughly 150 years) is 1998 and we have seen cooling since then. Second warmest year was 1938.

The oceans, according to NASA, have cooled in the past few years by 0.3 degrees

The current warming started 10,200 years ago. The total warming has been about 11 degrees C the past 10,200 years.

We really don’t know what is going on, but we do know we have seen this exact scene played out at least four times in the past 650,000 years. Vostok shows that this cycle is the coolest of the five. Japan’s science Institute calls the theory of man induced warming virtually impossible.

Oh and don’t let that hockey stick hit you on the way out.

If this follows the other wonderful items the repubs have tried they will:
    1) make a lot of noise about zero’ing out the funding
    2) vote to increase funding as part of a package deal for the good of America
    3) tell us that “next time they will be successful” and we should give them more votes and support

i hope these UN climate change agencies go away, they single handily spoon feed hyped up climate change language to poor unsuspecting peon agricultural lineages holders who want to practice pre Colombian techniques and are dissuaded by claiming it is best not to farm, since the UN will brings to them products from better areas which are certified by their agencies.
