What the GOP does not want to happen is to sit and let Obama trash them in front of anyone who happens to watch his speech and so called plan to create jobs. They don’t want a replay of what he did to the Supreme Court Justices during his State of the Union address.

I can see it now…Obama pointing fingers and his fellow Dems standing and cheering. If this happens they should excuse themselves from his presence.

What Obama wants to do is develop a set of talking points that directly tie into the GOP debate. Although the White House has been telling us for weeks that “this speech is not about politics, but about jobs”, Obama wants to have the last word on any issue that might look popular to voters.

Yahoo/Washington AP just updated. Look at what they are going with:

    http://news.yahoo.com/obama-bows-boehner-jobs-speech-sept-8-013059529.html
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has acceded to House Speaker John Boehner’s wishes to deliver an address on jobs and the economy to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 8. The president had requested Sept. 7 for the long-anticipated speech.

In agreeing to Boehner’s schedule, Obama’s address will compete with the opening game of the National Football League season — a conflict the White House wanted to avoid.

But the change now will allow a planned Sept. 7 Republican presidential debate to proceed without Obama upstaging it.

  22. TexasFred says:

I have been far less than impressed with Boehner to date, but if he would *grow a set* he could force Obambam into a corner nearly every day… The vein in Obambam’s temple may just BURST!

What if this has been Obamas plan all along? He could say something like…”see I compromised with the Republicans to get what they wanted, now they have to do the same with my policies”.
Seems to me that it`s a ploy to make himself look good.

  41. PatriotLady says:
    August 31, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Uh-uh. This is well-planned. Oblama knew exactly what he was doing when he set his speech for the exact same date and time of the Republican debate. Don’t know why yet (in my mind), but it was a big move on his part. THEN he caved with the first burp from Congress.

Watch the other hand. He is not innocent in this; he did this on purpose. Congress played right into his hand. Watch.

This way, by giving his speech the day after the debates, he’ll have much more ammo, in his way of thinking.

  42. PatriotLady says:
    August 31, 2011 at 10:35 pm

“What the GOP does not want to happen is to sit and let Obama trash them in front of anyone who happens to watch his speech and so called plan to create jobs. They don’t want a replay of what he did to the Supreme Court Justices during his State of the Union address.”

That is exactly what they should want. Obama made an ass of himself that night. Every American knew it, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. That was not his most shining moment.

    @Chaban,

Exactly. This is nothing but political mischief from a wanna be king. The thing we have to remember is that the President can not just show up at the Capitol and give a speech expecting an audience. He needs an invitation. If you hear people giving grief over this for the reasons you say, just tell them that.

A quick thumbnail because it’s a rabbit hole: The rules were set up that way from the beginning on purpose which hearkens back to the days of the English Civil War(s) and Charles I starting in the early 1640s, which by the way didn’t end well for either Charles I or II. It’s also one of the reasons why our founders established a republic with 3 separate, but equal branches of government. Congress does not serve at the command of our President like Parliament did for the king back then. Their only function at first was to collect taxes and if the king wanted money he would summon them to make it happen. Charles wanted that whole England, Scotland, Ireland combo and wanted money to fight for it, Parliament said no so Charles dissolved them. And then, as the saying goes: That’s when the fight started. Basically these wars came to an end with the establishment that the monarch can’t govern without the consent of Parliament.

Folks, don’t get all worked up over this speech.
    1) Nothing is going to come from it other than lies. Look at all the last speeches where he was going to do all these great things for the economy and where are we today?
    2) No one is going to watch it. Not with his ratings as they are and opening night regular season football with THAT game on.
    3) No one believes him any more other than the lying JournOList media. Sure, they’re doing more for him than ever but it’s not working. If we hear his polls are at record lows, you can bet they’re far below that.
    4) Not only is he up against THAT game but he’s up against opening of the school season for a lot of parents who are too busy to worry about what he has to say.
    5) Finally, watch what he promises to do, then check back two weeks later and see where he is – I’d put $20 he’s been on the golf course twice since that speech – and absolutely nothing is done that he said he’d do.

Don’t be surprised if by March we’re hearing that Moo Moo or one of the kids is suffering from ‘exhaustion’ or some sickness preventing him from leading us to the promised land in a second term. And oh, darn, but it looks like Hillary will have to take his place. But don’t worry – he’ll be on the phone to counsel her on what she should do so he really won’t be away from us all…

  50. ironmaiden says:
    August 31, 2011 at 11:49 pm

The question we should all be asking ourselves now is how Obama is going to get out of – or be forced out of running again in 2012. Because there is no one – at least no one who knows politics – who thinks he’s going to win.

Once again the GOP blows off its own toes.

They had the perfect opportunity to let the nation hear the Jobs Plan made of Hot Air and Tin-foil, by having each of the GOP 8 decline the swell opportunity allow NBC and POLITICO ask ridiculously partisan questions, Defer to the President and Win!

Nope. Whine like dweebs and give the President exactly what he planned last month – give a speech no one but Butch maddow will watch – NFL Kickoff between Greenbay and New Orleans, or ‘Make No Mistake, this Plan is a Sho ‘Nuff Plan, if only the Congress will act!’
