By destroying the private lives of Americans, Liberals want to force a dependency on government.

Government Jerry Brown of California, explains it in this 1995 excerpt:

    —

    http://biggovernment.com/mrichmond/2010/06/10/jerry-brown-flashback-we-need-more-welfare-and-fewer-jobs/

“The conventional viewpoint says we need a jobs program and we need to cut welfare. Just the opposite! We need more welfare and fewer jobs. Jobs for every American is doomed to failure because of modern automation and production. We ought to recognize it and create an income-maintenance system so every single American has the dignity and the wherewithal for shelter, basic food, and medical care. I’m talking about welfare for all. Without it, you’re going to have warfare for all. Without a universal health care like every other civilized country, without a minimum level of income, this country will explode. You can’t blame the guy at the bottom forever. At some point there’s a reaction and we’ll see that the real criminals are those calling the tune, making the rules, and walking to the bank. We have the money, we have the brain power. The United States now has the highest measured wealth of any nation ever in the history of the world. We could rebuild our cities, we could create the kind of buying power and community well-being that will provide for peace. The guaranteed income is one way. Another way is to have always the availability of work in a nonprofit, in community service. A third is to start giving people training to develop skills where they can be self-supporting. You could come up with a cash supplement. Even conservatives have suggested a negative income tax to cut out the bureaucracy. If we were smart, we’d get rid of welfare and give people a family assistance like they do in Europe…

The problem isn’t even a problem. Automation and technology would be a great boon if it were creative, if there were more leisure, more opportunity to engage in raising a family, providing guidance to the young, all the stuff we say we need. America will work if we’re all in it together. It’ll work when there’s a shared sense of destiny. It can be done! It’s all there! What isn’t there is the leadership to create the kind of social network, the safety net, the distribution that would truly create a just and equal society…

We have to restore power to the family, to the neighborhood, and the community with a non-market principle, a principle of equality, of charity, of let’s-take-care-of-one-another. That’s the creative challenge. First, expose relentlessly the big lie that comes over the tube every night-that if you just go out and find that job, and work harder, it’ll all be fine. It won’t! There’s not enough work to go around and a lot of the pay is not fair. Unless you totally yank up that system and create a better one, unless the spirit changes, unless the heart opens, unless we confront power with the truth of our own unarmed but absolute fearless truth, we’re not going to overcome it. Evil is too embedded to be overcome by anything other than a spiritual challenge.”

Yeah. Distribute the wealth. On Day 1 divide all the wealth and send everybody a check with their fair share. What happens on Day 2 when I decide to spend it all on electronics, and my neighbor decides to invest his portion, and another starts a business? By Day 3 (or even Day 2) somebody’s got more than the next person. I give thanks to Maximilian Kolbe who wrote this compact and direct refutation of “redistribute the wealth” economics.

“When he sees the luxurious residence or the charming country house of a wealthy person, a poor workingman often asks himself: Why is there such inequality in the world?”

How many volumes have been written about equality among men! How much blood has been spilled for this idea! And yet, in spite of it all, we still have the rich and the poor…

Let us imagine that one day all the inhabitants of the work world would assemble to put into effect this sharing of all goods; and that in fact each person, granting that the world is very big, received an exactly equal portion of the wealth existing on earth.

The what? That very evening, one man might say, “Today I worked hard: now I am going to take rest.” Another might state, “I understand this sharing of goods well; so let’s drink and celebrate such an extraordinary happening.” On the other hands, another might say, “Now I am going to get to work with a will so as to reap the greatest benefit I can from what I have received.” And so, starting the next day, the first man would have only the amount given him; the second would have less, and the third would have increased his.

Then what do we do? Start redistributing the wealth all over again?

Even if everybody began to work right away with all his might and at the same time, the results would not be identical for all. There are, in fact, different kinds of work which are unequally productive; nor do workers enjoy the same identical capacities. This leads to a diversity of results achieved, and consequently to differences in people’s profits.

What would have to be imposed so that, once the division of goods was accomplished, people could continue to live on a basis of equality in this sense? All workers would have to perform the same tasks, all possess equal intelligence and ability, have similar professional training, the same degree of health and strength, and especially the same desire to put forth the necessary efforts. All of this is quite utopian.

To continue the argument, even if there were only two persons in the world, they would not succeed in maintaining absolute equality; for in the whole universe there are no two things completely identical in every respect…

In spite of this, the human mind still desires to bring about certain equality among men. Is there any possibility that this can happen? Yes, no doubt. Every man, whoever he is, whatever he possesses and whatever he is capable of doing, owes all this to God the Creator of the universe. Of himself man is nothing. From this point of view all of us are absolutely equal.

Furthermore we all possess free will, which makes us masters of all our actions. This too constitutes the basic equality of all men on earth. But the use made of our free will is not the same in all cases; it depends in fact on each man’s own determination, on the extent to which he makes use of this precious gift; for not all do so in the same degree. It follows that not even after death will perfect equality be achieved; it will not in fact exist, because every man will receive a just reward or punishment according to his deeds, good or evil. ”

Kolbe died in Auschwitz when he asked to take the place of another prisoner who was sentenced to die.

I worked in estate planning and probate law for over 20 years. There are ways to get around too much in tax. However, placing it in a pe-death trust isn’t going to avoid paying estate taxes unless you have completely given away any control over the assets (irrevocable trusts which accrue gift tax). Living Trusts still accrue estate taxes. Living trusts just make it easier to complete the probate process in some of the more difficult states, like CA. In WA, they are a waste of time and money.

Gifting away your assets is the way to avoid estate tax.

And assets transferring to a surviving spouse accrue no estate tax. Where estate tax hurts the most is when there is a family owned company or farm being transferred to children. Trusts set up at the first death covering one-half of the assets do not accrue taxes on the second death. Just better be sure that the trusts are set up properly.

And then again . . . if you don’t live in a community property state, you have even more problems.

I don’t think there is an unequal distribution of wealth. If you have it and earned it, it’s yos – not mine or anyboldy else’s. Some have more, some have less – and it has been and always will be that way – just as some folks work and invest to get ahead and some don’t or not as well.

By their twisted pretzel logic, the question I’d like to see thrown in – just for laughs – what about lottery winnings? Shouldn’t they go to the most needy? Who cares what your number is – YOU don’t deserve it as much as so-and-so does…but then HOW MUCH do they get?

    Decisions, decisions.

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Dems invalidated the charitable trust law and confiscated the billions that have been shielded from taxation and the government in the accounts of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. I wonder if Buffet would be as supportive of wealth redistribution. He certainly didn’t trust the government to spend that money; hence, the reason he and Gates put their fortune into a trust. You just can’t make this stuff up.

That is true, but there is also a $1M lifetime exemption along with the $13K exclusion per year per giftee.

Or you can do what Bill Gates is doing and give away most of your wealth to charities leaving only $5M per child. You can make it so that the charities end up paying for the estate tax on each gift given to your children. The estate tax can come out of the residue after specific gifts. That is the way it is done most of the time.

The problem comes when most of the “wealth” is held in family owned companies or farms.

For some historical purposes, estate tax (or what they called inheritance tax) started to finance the Civil War. It has been around for a very, very long time. Back in the 1970 and 1980s, it was much more punitive. It actually is better now. Now, federal tax is called “estate tax”. Most state tax is called “inheritance tax”.

Life insurance death benefits aren’t taxed, do you wonder why? The premiums gifted are death-taxed, why? Whole life policies are very expensive, i.e., lucrative, any cash value is erased at the death of the insured. The biggest market for “wholey” is in estate planning.

The commiecrats won’t let go of the class-warfare angle, the RINOs headfake repeal every time the Death Tax comes up. Neither will ever give up the bazillions in Insurance Lobby grease. The Death Tax is a giant Madoff-Ponzi goatfork of Americans and American small business

This is why the communists (DNC) and socialists (RINOs) must be utterly destroyed via successive elections, their policies outlawed by Constitutional amendment, their families burdened with shame for generations.

Where did all this “equality” and “fairness” crap come from anyway? Where is it decreed that life is fair? Life is not fair or equal. Horrible things happen to good people. Evil people get away with committing horrible, “unfair” acts.

The Bible says over and over again (and I paraphrase here), “Be not afraid for the Lord is with you.” Therein lies one’s best defense…… Be not afraid!

I also maintain that “unfair” and “unequal” things that happen in one’s life so often turn out to be blessings. How would the redistributionists work out the calculus on that one?

  25. Jerry says:

“When he sees the luxurious residence or the charming country house of a wealthy person, a poor workingman often asks himself: Why is there such inequality in the world?”

    ———

    Socialists substitute a materialistic definition of ‘equality’ for the one found in our political beginnings;

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights…..”

Question: How can we equalize what is already equal?

According to our founders, equality is a measure of means, not of ends. It’s a common set of rules that all runners in the race are bound by. It doesn’t give slow runners a head-start, and it doesn’t tie bricks to the waists of fast runners.

That definition found in the American Declaration of Independence is not about money at all. Its not about anything ‘material’. The United States of America is a union based on a common set of rules that apply to everyone in the same way. It is not in any way based on a common outcome.

What would be the point of applying yourself if the outcome was always the same?

Every private union is limited by the amount of money and benefits they demand. If they demand too much, the company could fold.

Not so, with the government unions. Whatever accommodations the union wants to demand, the taxpayers have to pay. We taxpayers sometimes end up paying twice the amount for a service than it is actually worth.

There are no limits to what government unions can demand.

But what if we don’t want the service anymore? Tough! The taxpayers are stuck with a lifetime commitment to a person whom they would never consider hiring privately. If they don’t want to use the service, then they can pay the same people to stand around all day……..doing nothing. We pay whether we use the service or not.

It’s like being forced to adopt a spoiled child, who hates us and purposely breaks things, but who we’re not allowed to ground. There is no benefit to the household, only expense.

Of course, we all know that “progressive” income taxes and estate taxes are two of the ten goal that Marx outlined for a Communist utopia

When my grandpa died, my mom was force to sell about 1/3 of his ranch land to pay the tax. She was NOT rich! When Mom died, I was forced to pay about 100K to keep the remaining ranch land! This was money I was going to use to send my daughters to college! I have BORROWED more than 100K to educate my kids. I am NOT rich. My wife and I are public school teachers. I paid two attorneys and a CPA a lot of money to avoid the estate taxes and the IRS got it anyway!

Anyone that thinks estate tax only applies to “rich” people is smoking something illegal.
