Head of Libyan Rebel Government Tells Cheering Crowds in Tripoli Sharia Will Be “Main Source” of Legislation…

Mustafa Abdul Jalil, Chairman of the Libyan Transitional Council, delivesr his speech at the Martyrs’ Square, in Tripoli, on September 12, 2011. Islam will be the main source of legislation in post-Moamer Kadhafi Libya, the head of Libya’s transitional leadership said in his first public address. (AFP PHOTO MAHMUD TURKIA)

Ironically, NATO today warned Libya could fall into the hands of “Islamic extremists,” you know, like the ones they helped usher into power.

(Telegraph) — The warning came in an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph as Muammar Gaddafi’s loyalist forces stepped up a fightback on three fronts.

Libya is in danger of falling into the hands of Islamic extremists if a stable government is not rapidly established, Nato’s secretary-general warned last night.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Islamic extremists would “try to exploit” any weaknesses created as the country tried to rebuild after four decades of Col Muammar Gaddafi’s rule.

Mr Rasmussen was speaking amid growing evidence of splits in the rebel leadership in Tripoli. His words will cast a damper over the euphoria sweeping Tripoli in the wake of the revolution.

His warning came as the head of the National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, told cheering crowds in Tripoli that Islamic shariah law would be the “main source” of legislation in the new Libya.

Mr Jalil, who only arrived in his new capital on Saturday, made his first public speech in Martyrs’ Square — once Col Gaddafi’s “Green Square” — last night.

“We are a Muslim people, for a moderate Islam, and we will stay on this road,” he said. His formulation suggested that Libya would follow neighbours such as Egypt in allowing room for secular freedoms.

But there are already signs that the rebel leadership is split over a variety of issues including the future role of the Islamist militias which played a significant part in the revolution.

Will they “moderately” chop the heads of “apostates” off and “moderately” stone to death women accused of “adultery” after they have been raped?

Obama thought “Libya” would be a big win in his back pocket
for the campaign. I think it’ll be another pile of dooty for his
people to clean up in the months ahead. Barry….you arrogant

Don’t forget that Barry ordered Mubarak to step down. The

spring” and his backing of “rebels” everywhere will come
back to bite him in the booty.

    @Rob

BTW there is very likely some truth to the claim that this ordeal of the Bulgarian nurses in Libya, had something to do with the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

The EU doesn’t not want it known that Daffy, not only blackmailed them for billions but, scammed them into making some very stupid political moves. Sometimes I think that the reason NATO went after Libya is payback from the EU. Hasn’t anyone ever wondered why Obama can’t present a valid reason for his non-kinetic kinetic war.
    ________________________________

Note the plea of the mother of one of the nurses to the EU in 2007:

After the verdict her mother made a public plea “We are sending our plea to the British government and the victims of Lockerbie. We are well aware the issue is painful to all, but in the name of the most humane of the professions we ask them to be merciful and let Megrahi go.”, referring to Abdelbaset al-Megrahi who was serving a life sentence in Scotland for the Lockerbie bombing.[27]
Gaddafi has repeatedly compared the two cases. After the 2006 verdict he said “Organisations like the Arab League, the non-aligned movement and the Islamic Conference said al-Megrahi was a political prisoner and international observers said elements of foreign intelligence were present at the trial…
    ___________________________

On July 24, 2007, the five medics and the doctor were extradited to Bulgaria, where their sentences were commuted by the Bulgarian President and they were freed. Libya has since complained about the releases (although, as of July 31, not to the EU), and the issue remains ongoing. Furthermore, a controversy has arisen concerning the terms of release, which allegedly include an arms trade as well as a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement signed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in July 2007. Both the French president and the Bulgarian president have denied that the two deals were related to the liberation of the six, although this has been alleged by a variety of sources, including Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The families of the infected children also demanded compensation for the actions taken by the convicted medics; figures of up to $10 million per family were mentioned. In July 2007, Libya announced a settlement had been reached, with $400 million going to the 426 victims’ families in exchange for conversion of the nurses’ sentences from death to life in prison.
    _____________________________

I realize that the Lockerbie bomber wasn’t released for almost another two years, but do you really think that after Daffy had blackmailed the EU for billions in money and equipment, and endlessly tortured a bunch of nurses, they would then enter into a contract with him for oil in exchange for releasing the Lockerbie bomber. And keep in mind that the efforts to free the Lockerbie bomber were started less than a year after the nurses were freed.

I think it was part of the deal all along. They just waited until the two events would not be so easily connected. Particularly, knowing how the families of the American victims would react.

Our good friends.. who Hussein violated the War Powers Act to help..

‘This is the first time in history that Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood welcome what is supposed to be a « victory » for Western forces.

It is the presence of members of Islamic-terrorist movements among Libyan « rebels » –as well as the many atrocities committed by « rebel » forces against black Africans — that the mainstream media are now largely ignoring.

Winning the war took five months – not exactly a demonstration of strength and may instead appear as a demonstration of weakness: if the U.S. military combined with the French and British armies needed five months to defeat a Third World dictator who had agreed to disarm, how can they possibly dissuade better equipped dictators?

Winning the peace looks like an impossible task, especially as nobody is in charge of this mission. The commander of the Tripoli Military Council, Adbelhakim Belhadj, is the former head of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, an al-Qaeda affiliate. The commander of the Benghazi Military Council, Ismail Al Salabi, is a former high level member of the same group.

Article 1 of the Draft Constitutional Charter for the Transitional Stage says : « Islam is the Religion of the State, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia). »

Those who have guns in Libya today are people who have a jihadist past, and who, until recently, maintained close links with people against whom the U.S. military is now battling in Afghanistan.’

Well, this is certainly going well. Looks to me like the “Arab Spring” will turn out about as well as things did for the Iranians and the Russians. Use the youth to overthrow the government, then grab the reins as chaos prevails once the “tyrant” has been eliminated. Aside from the money, Obama’s naked disregard for any Congressional “input” coupled with his kowtowing to the Arab League, the French and the Italians to put up the muscle to pull this off “in months, rather than days” is only surpassed in it’s arrogance by the silence of the MSM. I’ll be waiting to see how Obama spins this next year as the campaigns are in full swing.

  18. Snake Plissken says:
    September 13, 2011 at 5:07 am

And one other thought. Maybe when things really go south, Obama can send his union thugs over as “missionaries” to help the sharia-compliant achieve “prayer chancres” by means of a Louisville Slugger.

#######################Coordinated Taliban assault as rockets are fired at U.S. embassy and NATO HQ in Kabul and two suicide bombs explode
    By LEON WATSON
Last updated at 1:31 PM on 13th September 2011

The Taliban launched a coordinated assault on Kabul today as rockets were fired at the U.S. and other embassies and two suicide bombers struck elsewhere in the city.
Insurgents took over a multi-storey building near the heavily-fortified diplomatic district of the Afghan capital, firing rockets at several embassies and NATO compounds.
In western Kabul, a few kilometres away, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the entrance to a police building – killing an officer.
A second suicide bomber wounded two people when he detonated his device near the Habibia high school.

Insurgents: Taliban guerrilla fighters hold their weapons at a secret base in eastern Afghanistan
The Taliban have committed high-profile attacks on multiple targets in the capital before but this is the first time there have been simultaneous assaults on such separate areas of the city.
The assault is the second major Taliban attack in the city in less than a month after suicide bombers hit the British Council headquarters last month, killing nine people.
The U.S. embassy said its personnel were safe after the attack as British Ambassador Sir William Patey confirmed it had been a target.
He wrote on micro-blog site Twitter: ‘Aware of attack on US Embassy. All UK Embassy staff accounted for.’
Loud explosions and gunfire could be heard through the afternoon. Rockets landed in the upmarket Wazir Wazir Akbar Khan district, home to the U.S., British and other embassies.
One hit a school bus, but it appeared to have been empty at the time of impact. Four wounded civilians had been taken to hospitals, a deputy health minister said.
Two NATO helicopters circled the building in central Abdul Haq square, which the attackers had taken over.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the group was armed with rocket-propelled grenades, suicide bomb vests and AK-47s, and was targeting government buildings, the U.S. embassy and the headquarters of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
He also confirmed that the group had sent two suicide attackers to west Kabul, and said they had attacked a military convoy near the airport. The last claim could not be verified.
A U.S. embassy spokeswoman said all staff had taken shelter and there were no casualties.
Violence in Afghanistan is at its worst since U.S.-backed Afghan forces toppled the Taliban government in late 2001, weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, with high levels of foreign troop deaths and record civilian casualties.
Taliban attackers laid siege to a British cultural centre in the Afghan capital in mid-August, killing at least nine people during a long assault on the 92nd anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence from British rule.
In late June, insurgents launched an assault on a hotel in the capital frequented by Westerners, killing at least 10 people.

I really hate Obama as much as the next guy, but in this case these boots are to check and secure the Embassy! There will also be more on the ground if and when we reopen said Embassy (Marine Guards). Technically you are correct in that he lied, but not sure I’d want to trust others there to do this job!

Now, we (NATO) should never have been involved with this mess, but it is what it is!
