GOP Candidate Gary Johnson “Mixed Feelings” About Killing Of Al-Qaeda Cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki…

And I have mixed feelings about Gary Johnson.

(The Hill) — Gary Johnson joined fellow Republican nominee Ron Paul in criticizing the drone killing of U.S.-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen, saying he had “mixed feelings” about the strike since he believed Awlaki to be “entitled to due process.”

“Well I as President of the United States I would have been a lot more transparent about what, and I understand all of the accusations against al-Awlaki and they are very significant and I don’t want to minimize at all the threat that he was posing to the United States. But he is a U.S. citizen, he was a U.S. citizen, and never before have we targeted a US citizen for death,” the former New Mexico governor said on Fox News.

Awlaki, who was born in the United States, was an outspoken cleric cited by terrorists, including Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist charged in the 2009 Fort Hood shootings, and Faisal Shahzad, who tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square last year.

Johnson called Alwaki “the first person to be denied” due process, and cautioned against similar attacks in the future.

    Guess what Gary?

You and all other Americans were on his target list. Looks like we were the quicker ones at the draw.

Please try and start living within the confines of reality.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Citizens get killed all the time by cops who are shooting at them. How is that any different? He might have been born here, but he was no citizen. What is the big deal about this? The guy is an islamic terrorist not a wonderful American citizen who does not live on American soil, or pay taxes.

Aren’t there better things to be upset about? People are insane.

And, of course, can you imagine trying to get this guy back to the states? Reading him his rights, getting him a lawyer, having him tried in a civilian (not a military) court, with all the attending circus: Code Pink demonstrating for his release, an all Moslem jury, voting to get him off, dancing Judge whoevers and Ron Paul, CAIR, the ACLU and all the rest of the usual suspects ballyhooeing his innocence and demanding that, gosh darnitall, whyn’t we go after them lousy Jooooooos, who are the cause of all the world’s problems?

    Blah. Blah. Blah. Fishcakes.

Before we could impose “Due Process” on our enemies, there was just one clause he missed. He was required to catch the missile before it struck the ground, failure to do so would terminate any obligations to process.

Dumb ass he was a terrorist who was urging others to terrorism.
He got what he wanted. Martyrdom. Game over.

Considering this is a war, albeit the other side doesn’t wear uniforms or fight under a flag, it doesn’t matter that he was a US citizen – he was at war with the US and encouraged others to kill US citizens. During the civil war many US citizens were killed by other US citizens – it is the nature of war. If someone threatens your family and encourages others to, I am sure you wouldn’t want to wait to take action. (even though law enforcement wants you to…..) Being proactive against actual threats is probably the best course.

I would think that openly joining the enemy’s side, and fighting for them, consitutes a de facto rejection of one’s American citizenship.

    The rest is just hair-splitting.

Precisely! If he opts out of the social contract, he cannot claim the right to it’s protections. Contracts are binding on both parties.

The implied agreement that exists between nations concerning how warfare is conducted, carries with it a standard of conduct. Those who operate outside that code cannot expect to receive the protection within. Technically, we CAN waterboard Pirates, Terrorists, Spies, and Criminal Cartels acting outside the jurisdiction of any recognized state interest, and outside all international agreements.

The only problem i have with this story is not with Awlaki, but with Obama. He should have declared this ‘foreign attacker’ a “foreign attacker”, before killing him. He makes a mockery of our criminal justice system by calling Awlaki a simple criminal. The guy is a murderous terrorist, and was at war with the United States!

Got it. Gary Johnson is an effing moron, too.

This ain’t rocket science, folks. If you’re on the other side in a war against us, where you were born is irrelevant, you are fair game. Here’s a thought experiement for anyone who’s troubled by this — What if he were a US born Nazi general in WW2? What if he was an American in charge of the death camps for the Nazis?

Hurray for killing U.S. citizens without trial!

If the government can do this while jingoistic idiots cheer on, then who else will they kill? Joe Biden has already likened Tea Partiers to “domestic terrorists”. Would it be too far to think that they’ll be next?

But hey, yeah, I feel a whole lot safer. /sarcasm.

Yes, Barack Obama should be able to execute any American citizen he wants at any time without any judicial safeguard, even when, as here, there was no fighting, no battle, and insufficient evidence to convict of treason if the case were tried.
