Texas Democrats Forcefully Defend Perry From WaPo Hatchet Job: “He Doesn’t Have a Racist Bone In His Body”…

Perry has appointed more minorities than any governor in Texas history, but hey, why let a stellar record get in the way of a baseless slur?
Via Texas Tribune:
. . . Even some of Perry’s fiercest Texas critics say they do not believe he is racist. They point to his record of appointments as evidence: He appointed the state’s first African-American state supreme court justice, Wallace Jefferson, and later made him chief justice. (Jefferson’s great grandfather was a slave, “sold like a horse,” Perry once said with disgust.) Perry’s former general counsel and former chief of staff, Brian Newby, is black; so is Albert Hawkins, the former Health and Human Services Commissioner who Perry handpicked to lead the massive agency in 2002.
“He doesn’t have a racist bone in his body,” said former Democratic state Rep. Ron Wilson, who is black and served with Perry in his early years in the Legislature. “He didn’t then, and he doesn’t now.”
Added Dallas Democratic Sen. Royce West, who is also black: “I don’t agree with him on policy issues, but you can point to many things he has done that were sensitive to ethnic minorities.”
Indeed, in his 11-year gubernatorial tenure, Perry has appointed more minorities to statewide posts — including university regents and secretaries of state — than any governor in Texas history.
“Texans need to see that no matter where you come from, the color of your skin or the sound of your last name, that if you are willing to work hard and play by the rules you can become anything you want in this state,” Perry said in a 2010 interview with The Dallas Examiner.

Sharpton reported to be furiously rewriting script for tonight’s show.
Thank you, Zip. This story has me really angry – this is good to see.
I have never seen such disgusting work from a lame ass POS “media” like the piece of turd aka the Washington compost.
Sorry for the cursing, I am just so sick and tired of the race card.
I’m very annoyed at Cain for playing into this chit. He’s a smart man, he should have known better!
If the media had spent but a fraction of the time vetting the Anointed One that it has already spent dissecting Perry we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Where’s Dear Leader’s college transcripts and all the other secret documents and details? Where’s Holder’s recent document defending the legality of murdering an American citizen?
Where’s the press?
Will the states vet the Dem candidate before allowing him on the ’12 ballot?
The WASHINGINTON COMPOST a open sewer in a place of villians
The Texan blacks defending Perry are just a bunch of Uncle Tom Negros, racists and teabaggers! Just ask Sharpton ! They’re not “authentic” blacks like him !
This morning. I checked the rock next to my driveway. Check your Rocks folks WaPo article was Bull Poo plain and simple.
Next up Cain…
Fortunately the race card has been played so many times by the commiecrats and their propaganda hacks like the Washington Post that it is losing it’s impact value.
Lots of people are beginning to tune it out.
I lost all respect for Herman Cain during all this too. I can see he’ll be another black playing the race card. I have no use what so ever for Herman Cain.
The reality is that Perry would be considered a ******head by the progs.Oxford English Dictionary, “after the Civil War it was used for a person in favor of full political equality for Negroes.” Now I wonder what party labelled people with that term?
Of course the Dems defended Perry on this he was a Dem back then and so were his hunting buddies.
Get off Cain, he was tricked by the MSM. Happens to the best of us. Herman Cain 2012.
Reading the article blew my mind. You mean there are honest Democrats left in the world? I thought Joe Leiberman was the only one.
“he was tricked by the MSM”
Anyone who is easily tricked by the obvious has not paid attention.
“I have never seen such disgusting work from a lame ass POS “media” like the piece of turd aka the Washington compost.”
Have you heard of the New York Times. How about JOURNO-LISTERS, Dr Krauthammer’s friends and collegues at the POS compost.
I am astonished how many people are reacting to this as if were an entirely new phenomenon.
My goodness. This media manipulation is so new it is as if the Bush years never happened.
And people place all blame Bush yet they are the people who brought all the Media’s lies about Iraq.
Cain lost my support by accepting the MSM premise. Whoever the MSM attacks the most has the best chance against Obama.
Herman Cain is the only sound choice. Who else is there?
Mitt W. McRomney? Rick W. McPerry? PLEASE. Spare me this nonsense.
The racist attack will help Perry because it is so ridiculous. Conservatives are going to have a lot of trouble getting past the illegal instate tuition debacle. I know that’s what did in Fucklbee for me.
The lame stream media can go pound sand for all I care. They are looking so inept in trying to steer public opinion they are becoming irrelevant.
Gig Em’ Rick
Perry 2012
Even as a Texan I don’t like guv’ Goodhair but he is in NO way a racist. Cain will have to do better on this, and I AM a fan of Cain.
While the Washington Post article was a desperate attempt to discredit Perry, they need not have gone to such lengths. A close look at his appointments may reveal that he has appointed a fair number of minorities to his staff BUT a lot of his appointments are laced with influence peddlers from the road/construction lobby, big pharma lobby etc.
He has plenty of excess baggage dating back to when he was a democrat and his soft positions of illegal immigration sure won’t help.
He better realize that the liberal dirt machine is just getting cranked up…
@Chris W.
I wouldn’t want a president thats easily tricked. Apparently Cain’s ” tricked” and duped a lot because he’s forever putting his foot in his mouth. Hopefully, people want ignore whats being said by candidates like they did on 2008! I’m so sick of the f’n race card i could puke, so are most of the American people.
2008
In 2008 a mistake did we make
and a man named Obama was elected
A campaign swept him in
on the base of a whim
by a Nation that felt quite dejected
You see in the big push
to get rid of George Bush
we neglected to pay close attention
But now two years in
we can see that our whim
was based solely upon dissension
With Rahm at the wheel
the Conservatives did squeal
as he stood quite close nude in the shower
With his stumpy stuck out
and quite drunk from the clout
he made backroom job offers and deals
He could not care less
his political dress
as he pushed this liberal agenda
Wealth distribution quite clear
as they sipped on their beer
surrounded with a Cop in a garden
Now a block vote on race
was a Nation’s disgrace
Are we back where our father’s began?
A racial divide
he has left in his stride
the historic event for a day
Well now that it’s come
the race card is done
the Nation will no longer play
You see in the New Deal
our hearts did once feel
sad sorrow remorse in reflection
But now that we see
such a two sided tree
we’ve lost all of our sense of compassion
You see a Right is a Right
whether black, green or white
and we know this all from within
So we no longer need
the main media feed
where pundits push hype and conjecture
For now only a few
continue to spew
the garbage of hate that defines them
Why a blind man could see
from this two sided tree
that it’s all based on hidden agenda
Know this Nation of ours
out of Fed, Stars and Bars
and “We The People” it serves!
Have our gas guzzling cars
and our reach for the stars
swerved us too far from the center?
So I’ll leave it to you
with a fond tootle-loo
as the fight for States Rights does continue!
I remain hopeful about and very much interested in Herman Cain as a candidate. However, if he felt compelled to apologize for comments he made which offended members of the community of Islam, Mr Cain may wish to consider issuing a statement regarding his strong reaction to a manufactured claim of racism against a fellow American.
