Reid Says Government Jobs Must Take Priority Over Private Sector Jobs…

And there you have it folks, the Dems in a nutshell.

(Floor Action) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday said Congress needs to worry about government jobs more than private sector jobs, and that this is why Senate Democrats are pushing a bill aimed at shoring up teachers and first responders.

“It’s very clear that private sector jobs have been doing just fine, it’s the public sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers, and that’s what this legislation is all about,” Reid said on the Senate floor. . . .

Reid reiterated his emphasis on creating government jobs by saying Democrats are looking to “put hundreds of thousands of people back to work teaching children, have more police patrolling our streets, fire fighters fighting our fires, doing the rescue work that they do so well . . . that’s our priority.” He said Republicans are calling the bill a “failure” because they are “using a different benchmark for success than we are.”

OK…let’s go over this ONE MORE TIME…and you libs in the back, put down the comic books and pay attention… or there’s no recess for you.

Step 1 – the private sector generates the tax revenue to fund the public sector
    Step 2 – SEE STEP 1
Step 3 – Repeat as necessary

    VOTE – 2012

And YES Harry, we are using a different benchmark; Government workers are necessary, that’s why the States and municipalities DECIDE who they need how many of and how many they can afford. And in what damn universe that you inhabit have we seen Private Sector jobs doing “just fine”? Try REALLY HARD to remember this Dingy Harry of the Nuclear Option: The Government doesn’t have its OWN MONEY – it gets it through taxes and spending our grandchildrens’ money. And, as YOU should know, Federal Government employees don’t pay into Social Security or Medicare and are generally speaking paid more salary than are their private sector counterparts.

You want to UNDERSTAND economics? Please humble thyself and go speak to little ole member of the House of Representatives Paul W. Ryan – maybe, if nothing else, you’ll learn how to spell the word Budget – and even decide the Senate should pass one for a change.

Let’s face it, Harry Reid is grasping at straws.

Nevada has the nation’s highest unemployment. The only hope for Nevada’s public sector is a federal bailout. The situation is similar next door in California, with the nations 2nd highest unemployment. Union-heavy Michigan is 3rd.
http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm (Scroll way to the bottom)

I also believe that there is a certain amount of paying back favors from the 2010 election.

One under-reported story in the Nevada Senate race was the “grassroots” fake Tea Party group that campaigned AGAINST Sharron Angle. The group, called The Patriot Majority, was funded by the wholesome alliance of public-sector unions, teachers unions, and Nevada casinos.
    http://soquelbythecreek.blogspot.com/2010/10/fake-tea-party-group-appears-in-nevada.html

Here are the top donors according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

    1. SEIU Committee on Political Education (COPE): $400,000
    2. American Federation of Teachers (AFT): $300,000
    3. Guy David Gundlach: $300,000
    4. MGM Resorts and MGM Mirage: $300,000
    5. VoteVets.org Action Fund: $250,000
    6. American Association for Justice (AAJ PAC): $100,000
    7. Clean Energy Fuels Corporation: $75,000
    8. Harrah’s Operating Company: $75,000
    9. Carpenter’s Legislative Improvement Committee, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners: $60,000
    10. San Pablo Lytton Casino (San Pablo, CA): $50,000
    11. Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) PAC: $20,000
    12. Sheet Metal Workers International PAC: $10,000

In a complete coincidence, The Patriot Majority was managed by Craig Veroga, who just happened to be Harry Reid’s former communications director. What are the odds?

It should also be noted that the two biggest spenders in California politics are also public-sector unions that will directly benefit from Senator Reid’s policies. Naturally, the Democratic Party itself will benefit from the state-mandated union dues generated by the program, 90% or more of which go to Democrats.

I live in NV, and I can tell you that there were some shenanigans going on with casino workers in Las Vegas. Right up until election day, Sharron Angle was leading in all the polls. Then election night, BAM, Harry won again. Not saying the graveyards voted, but something sure stunk.

  19. Mackie says:

Why Las Vegas keeps this big government loon in the senate is beyond me. I suppose it is because he is a big shill for the SEIU that operates in all the big Casino/Hotels.

If you talk to private sector people in Nevada they have no need for Reid. Las Vegas housing is underwater more than any other place in the country.

But Dingy Harry is more upset about not getting federal funds for cowboy poetry in Las Vegas. Essentially Reid is telling us he supports big government, big bureaucracy, and big money for the Government employees, the tax paying private sector be damned.

Notice it is always about teachers, police, and fire ,this same mantra has been constantly repeated over again and again by Obama and Biden, why because they have some of the biggest and most powerful unions. The fact is that the federal government should not be playing a role in the public school system. Police Fire and teachers have survived with state, county and local tax funds for decades. When you introduce federal funding to them it comes with way to many controlling strings from the massive bureaucracy that makes up the Federal Government.

People like Harry Reid want to give the feds more control over everything to the point that the 10th amendment to the constitution will have little meaning or strength anymore.

All economic growth comes from private sector. The larger that government grows as a percentage to the whole, the less economic potential our system has.

Liberals seem to think along the lines of a perpetual motion machine. They think there is a ‘sweet spot’ that can yield as much power out, as power in. Their master formula makes no accommodations for energy lost as a result of friction.

They believe that only a finite amount of wealth exists in the world, and they believe they have a divine right (they certainly don’t have a constitutional right) to distribute that wealth among the people who need it most. Despite what they say, they have no intention of distributing wealth equally.

So vote democrat IF you wish for the nation to hit bottom so then we can begin the rebuilding process OR vote Republican to begin the rebuilding process from a higher level.

Gohmert said the real losers would be small businesses.

Taking the oil and gas industry, he said it would help huge corporations such as British Petroleum and Exxon Mobil while hurting the small independent companies that provide much of the energy produced in the United States.
What Obama calls subsidies for the oil industry that he wants to eliminate are really the same tax deductions that all companies get, Gohmert said.
“They’re deductions of the cost of doing business. Every manufacturer, every employer gets to deduct the cost of doing business, but this president wants to make sure oil companies don¹t, and who¹s going to be helped? The biggest oil companies will be helped. The price of oil, if this becomes law, will go up.”

In the jobs plan, Obama proposes to expand payroll tax cuts so employees’ rates would be reduced to 3.1 percent in 2012, down from the original rate of 6.2 percent that helps fund Social Security. A number of tax credits would be extended to businesses that hire workers and purchase new equipment. Billions would be spent on school construction, the hiring of teachers, the enlistment of more first responders, the rebuilding of infrastructure and for construction companies renovating old homes. Unemployment benefits would be extended through 2013.

To pay for nearly $400 billion, the White House would limit to 28 percent itemized deductions for families earning more than $250,000. Some $18 billion would be raised by increasing taxes on income earned by investment funds, another $40 billion would be raised by repealing certain subsidies for oil and gas drilling, and $3 billion would be raised by overhauling how taxes are treated for corporate jets.

Another little-noticed part of the bill is the establishment of the American Infrastructure Financing Authority.

Then there is the clause that undermines the 11th Amendment by saying that any state that accepts federal money under its auspices automatically waives its right to sovereign immunity.
“You accept $1 of federal money for any program in your state, you’ve waived your right not to be sued for not hiring somebody because they’re unemployed.

“If you apply for a job and you think that the reason you didn’t get hired is because you were unemployed at the time, you¹re now a protected class,” said Gohmert. “You’ve now got a cause of action, go get a lawyer.

“How do you prove, if you’re an employer, that being unemployed was not the reason that you did not hire somebody. It is going to create all kinds of claims for this mass of people and there’ll be more and more unemployed because of this bill.

    http://gohmert.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=259894

New tax breaks for small businesses, to hire workers. Combining tax cuts and small business has broad appeal across party lines. The kicker is how to pay for it. The White House proposes expanding employer tax credits for hiring disabled veterans (up to $4,800) and unemployed veterans (up to $2,400), which are now set to expire at the end of this year. “We believe there is an opportunity to make meaningful and significant progress in this area,” said House Republicans in a Sept. 16 memo responding to Mr. Obama’s jobs proposal.

    • $50 billion for roads and school repairs, and $10 billion for a new “national infrastructure bank.” Anything that smacks of stimulus spending is suspect to Republicans, but infrastructure is one topic on Capitol Hill that often has bipartisan agreement to spend more. House Republicans say some 100 existing federal transportation programs are duplicative and waste money on mandatory set asides. They propose resolving these issues in the current debate over a multiyear transportation authorization bill.

    • $30 billion in new aid to local governments to prevent layoffs of teachers, firefighters, and police. This is a hard sell for Republicans, who described a similar $53.6 billion item in Obama’s 2009 stimulus plan as pandering to his party’s base, especially powerful teachers unions. They also
criticize the proposal for providing one-time raises or a reprieve, then jolting workers later when the money runs out.

    • $15 billion to refurbish foreclosed homes. A nonstarter for Republicans, who say a similar program for $7 billion in Neighborhood Stabilization grants didn’t work.

    • $450 billion in tax hikes on incomes over $1 million. Democrats proposed a 5.6 percent surcharge as an alternative to Obama’s suggested hike on incomes over $250,000, including cuts to charitable deductions. The president backed the switch. But tax cuts are toxic to most Republicans, who dubbed the millionaires’ tax “class warfare.”
