Study: Big Three TV Networks Have Devoted More Than Double The Coverage To Occupy Wall Street Than The Tea Party, 87% Has Been Positive…

Shocker.

(The Daily) — The Big Three TV networks have devoted far more attention to Occupy Wall Street than they did to the tea party, according to a new study by the Washington-based Media Research Center. CBS, NBC and ABC reported a mere 13 times on the tea party throughout all of its first year, 2009. In contrast, they ran 33 stories or segments about Occupy within 11 days.

So does the disparity in coverage mean Occupy is getting special treatment? Maybe, suggests the report. On CBS, NBC and ABC, most of the interview sound bites — 109 clips, or 87 percent — were from either protesters or supporters of Occupy, whereas only 6 percent were critical of the movement. Morning-show coverage has also been favorable, with seven guests expressing sympathy for protesters and none opposing or criticizing them. We don’t seem to remember the tea party getting such good press.

That’s because this is their movement, their chance to look relevant and current and not like the plodding, propaganda parrots so beloved by Chicago Jesus and his minions. If they could only do something to spark these braindead fleabaggers into a violent frenzy they could somehow link it to the Tea Party and all them racist hillbillies that inhabit it. In other news, I see NBC jumped on the breaking Solyndra scandal today, first I’ve heard of it.

How much bigger would the Tea Party have been with similar coverage? I’m guessing quite a bit. And I guess that is what they were afraid of.
I hope Tea Parties around the country can sue to get back their permit/insur. fees from any of the same cities allowing the #ows protests.
This disparate treatment is disgusting. The media bias is to be expected but, different laws for different groups is profoundly un-American.

ALL of the major news networks are propaganda, yes that includes Fox, the most “mainstream” of the MSM.

    —–

But yeah, OWS is mostly a bunch of people who don’t understand what the real problems are. Capitalism is NOT the problem, because we haven’t had free-market Capitalism in this country for decades. We’ve have Corporatism, not Capitalism, and both parties (which are both bought and paid for by special interests) are guilty of perpetuating it.

However, 90% of the OWS crowd thinks the solution to government tyranny is MORE government tyranny. I’ve gone down to a few protests to try educating these folks, but most already have their minds made up. Ah, controlled dissent at its finest.

That said, look at what happened with the Tea Party. It went from an anti-tax, anti-war movement started mostly by Ron Paul supporters (yes, that’s right) to some hyper-neoconservative movement because it got co-opted by the establishment.

sp—– they don’t see “government tyranny” …nor does the majority of Americans….

they see economic disparity and an increasing concentration of American wealth into fewer hands and they see that concentration and the ever-increasing cost of political campaigning leading to political corruption and a serious threat to “one-man, one-vote”

it’s a pretty fair view and fairly popular.

if they had a single decent idea about what to do about what they see, they might prove powerful. …..but they don’t.

All you need to do is to compare the arrest records for the Occupy Wall Street members (over 2,000 across the nation) with the arrest record for the Tea Party members (0 arrests nationwide). The only arrests at Tea Party events were the SEIU thugs who beat up Kenneth Gladney for selling memorabilia at a Tea Party event in St. Louis and the Lefty that bit off the little finger of a senior citizen at a California Tea Party.

  10. rupaula says:

Large Tea Party events = probably 100 total hours.
Occupy Wallstreet = One straight month, 24 hours a day.

    Bigger protest = bigger coverage.

  12. 86 says:
    October 28, 2011 at 11:43 pm

The MSM also marginalizes Tea Party events. The big corporate journalism downplays Tea Party turnout so that when 300,000 people show up, they only claim 10,000 showed. Those that they show are usually the agent provocateurs who were sent out by the Dems to discredit the entire protest with stupid hate crap.

Of course, the MSM benefits by promoting a group who has no idea what they want — even 3+ weeks into the protest. That is something that’s “safe” to get behind.

  13. Libertarian Advocate says:
    October 28, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Another reason behind the high media coverage is that much of the Occupy movement events are occur in larger cities where the news media have their HQ’s. Journalists these days are primarily lazy skanks who are disinclined to travel far for a story. Paradoxically, they see themselves as hip and plugged into the counter-culture, so they cover a story and get home in time to watch a few reruns of “Friends” or some other crappy network schlock show while they suck down a few Heinies to get over their oh so stressful day on the job. Pffffttttt….

People need to use their TV’s for target practice. I got rid of mine. I don’t pay any mind to the lame media anymore. They’re irrelevant. The real opinion about the Teet party (or OWS if you prefer) can be found by talking to members of your own family and friends. I got both Dhimis, Independents and Repubics in that group…most of whom were and still are members or sympathizers with the Tea Party.

They see people like Soros, Van Jones, The Communist Party, The Nazi Party, Pathers, LaRaza, Acorn associated with the mush heads at OWS and are not sympathetic at all with them. They also put the blame for this economy and the high unemployment numbers squarely where it belongs…with the government of BHO and the Dhimi party, CRA etc.

And these are folk that watch the lame media.

Lets just say even BHO’s former supporters in the last election are not voting for him again. Oh if anyone is interested, they like Cain.

Stop buying the lame stream media tripe. Think for yourselves.

Then you haven’t met any real TEA Party people fuster, I guarantee you everyone of them have a copy of the Constitution, if not copy’s , I keep 20 or more in the truck to give out and one to read back through if I have to wait on someone to show up on a job.

The TEA Party goal is to restore Constitutional governance, the culture of independence , the proper role of government at all levels of society, and the fiscal responsibly.

We interact with our community and government through education, peaceful and legal activism, we can’t go camping for a month or more because we don’t get paid to protest and we have to work, we have jobs, family’s and houses to see too.

Ron Paul or his people had nothing with starting the TEA Party, do a little research next time.

OWS will have to continue to raise the stakes to keep the attention of the media. Right now it’s the filth, sex and crime that’s starting to draw attention. Eventually, they’ll have to engage in violence to stay above the fold, and with winter, and fatigue, or maybe school, many will go home, leaving the hard core who WILL resort to violence. The unions and various socialist parties can rotate “protestors” to keep things cooking.
A week ago there was an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi envoy, raising questions about what kind of response would Obama have to rise to reflecting upon the plot as akin to an act of war. That seems to have dropped off, and now all we have to consider is hippies?

This OWS crap was dreamed up by the regime in cahoots with the media. The regime can’t afford to have Fast and Furious in the news. They can’t afford to have N.C. Governor Purdue’s (let’s postpone elections, yeah that one) illegal campaign shenanigans in the news. OWS coverage puts butts in the seats. The people who regularly watch common television news are the democrat base. Tea Party people are the very least likely to watch television news. I don’t even watch FOX. The only television I’ve watched lately is the World Series, damnit. By the way, the media has chosen Romney. He will be the nominee. After he is nominated, the media will reveal that he wears the actual skin of a pacific islander convert under his outer clothes. Or some such slander. I support Cain, the authentic American who happens to be black.

It’s clear why they receive more MSM press and why the so-called press through massive editing, carefully constructs a palatable and sympathetic image for the public. Unfortunately, for many, the truth still slips through and leaves the MSM looking like what they are—–Leftist propagandists.

Although I do have to give a lone journalist at CBS some credit. She has been chasing the Fast and Furious story.

OWS’ers aren’t politically or media offensive since they have no real agenda ,use no damaging facts and can draw sympathy by emphasizing their student debts.Otherwise they are mildly entertaining campers libs are latching on to the protesters :to boost their popularity ,distract from reality and demonstrate their tolerance ,open mindedness and confirm there are issues the government needs to work on.
A bit of editing and the protesters appear to be all American kids, complaining politely ,with a touch of good old American rebelliousness.
