(NYDN) — Israeli officials said in a report Wednesday that a mysterious explosion at an Iranian nuclear facility two days ago was no accident.

The eyebrow-raising remarks surfaced in a Times of London story reporting that satellite images show smoke billowing from the uranium enrichment facility in the city of Isfahan.

“There aren’t many coincidences,” retired Major-General Giora Eiland told Israel’s army radio, noting that it was the second attack on an Iranian nuclear site in a month.

“When there are so many events, there is probably some sort of guiding hand, though perhaps it’s the hand of God,” said Eiland, who is Israel’s former national security chief.

Israeli intelligence honcho Dan Meridor suggested the guiding hand might be closer to home — and fanned speculation that an undeclared war against Iran was already under way.

“There are countries who impose economic sanctions and there are countries who act in other ways in dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat,” he said.

NEW YORK (AP) — Blending governing with re-election politics, President Barack Obama roused a cheering northeast Pennsylvania crowd Wednesday as he warned of a “massive blow to the economy” if Republicans block a payroll tax extension.

But hours later, addressing donors in New York, he toned his rhetoric down and declared progress was possible. [...]

Obama took to the road with a dual pitch for money, campaigning for more cash in the pockets of U.S. workers — and for his campaign treasury as well.

Obama told one group of donors that he still needs to make sure that key aspects of the health care law get implemented in 2014, that banking regulations are enacted and that energy policies are updated.

“I’m going to need another term to finish the job,” he said.

(Reuters) — The top U.S. military officer told Reuters on Wednesday he did not know whether Israel would alert the United States ahead of time if it decided to take military action against Iran.

General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also acknowledged differences in perspective between the United States and Israel over the best way to handle Iran and its nuclear program.

He said the United States was convinced that sanctions and diplomatic pressure was the right path to take on Iran, along with “the stated intent not to take any options off the table” — language that leaves open the possibility of future military action.

“I’m not sure the Israelis share our assessment of that. And because they don’t and because to them this is an existential threat, I think probably that it’s fair to say that our expectations are different right now,” Dempsey said in an interview as he flew to Washington from London.

I wonder if anyone actually believed him?

The AP reports that President Obama tried to assuage Jewish supporters during a fundraising stop in New York hosted by a prominent Jewish donor, who had been billed among prospective fundraisers ahead of time as a chance for a “substantive and candid” discussion about concerns in the Jewish community.

When the fundraiser’s host, American Jewish Congress chairman Jack Rosen, mentioned “concerns” about the ties between Israel and the U.S., Obama declared, “We don’t compromise when it comes to Israel’s security.”

According to the AP report, Obama said no ally surpasses Israel in importance to the U.S., which Rosen followed up by saying the president’s administration has been the most supportive ever of Israeli security.

Wait, Democrats have souls?

(CNSNews.com) — U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said that not extending unemployment benefits for the jobless, which are set to expire at the end of this year, “will mean an increase in the unemployment rate.”

Solis made her remarks at a press briefing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. At that same briefing, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), echoing remarks also made by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), said that lawmakers may lose their “soul” if they fail to pass legislation to extend unemployment benefits. [...]

Sen. Reed, echoing Solis, said that extending jobless benefits would alleviate the unemployment rate. He added that if Congress failed to do so, lawmakers might lose their “souls.”

“We have to pass the extension of unemployment benefits, it’s absolutely, essential,” said Reed. “If we fail to do this, we could lose not only our souls as been discussed here today, but $72 billion in economic activity next year translating to about 560,000 jobs. This is not just about keeping families together [and] keeping some food on the table. This is about keeping our economy moving, moving forward. We have to do this because the impact as the [Labor] Secretary said will be felt in every community in this country.”

(Almasry Alyoum) — The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party demanded the right to form the new national salvation government following early indicators that the party won the most seats in parliament.

“It is the majority in parliament that has the right to form the government,” said the party’s legal adviser Ahmed Abu Baraka.

He also said that Major General Mamdouh Shahin, member of the military council, was wrong when he said the parliamentary majority does not have the right to form the government. “Shahin probably meant to calm the public by saying that,” he said.

As to whether this would lead to a clash between the Brotherhood and the ruling military council, Abu Baraka dismissed the possibility as inconsequential.

“We have always had clashes with the military,” he said.

On Tuesday, Malloy wished death on Thanksgiving for Florida Gov. Rick Scott. “And then this miserable son of a bitch has the audacity to go to a homeless shelter? It’s a wonder somebody didn’t hold his head down in a vat of turkey gravy until he stopped squiggling! He goes to a homeless shelter and talks about how he cares. . . ? Mmm-hmm!”

JEDDAH — A 23-year-old unmarried woman was awarded one-year prison term and 100 lashes for committing adultery and trying to abort the resultant fetus.

The District Court in Jeddah pronounced the verdict on Saturday after the girl confessed that she had a forced sexual intercourse with a man who had offered her a ride. The man, the girl confessed, took her to a rest house, east of Jeddah, where he and four of friends assaulted her all night long.

The girl claimed that she became pregnant soon after and went to King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces in an attempt to carry out an abortion. She was eight weeks’ pregnant then, the hospital confirmed.

According to the ruling, the woman will be sent to a jail outside Jeddah to spend her time and will be lashed after delivery of her baby who will take the mother’s last name.

(Naharnet) — Social networking websites were buzzing Wednesday with supportive and critical comments about a video showing Lebanese cage fighter Mohammed Ali victoriously brandishing a Hizbullah flag after delivering the knockout punch to his foe in the 11th Cage Fighting Championship held in the U.S.

Ali shouted “Ya Hussein (O Hussein)”, invoking the blessings of 7th-century Shiite saint, Imam Hussein, before serving the final blow.

The video then shows the Lebanese warrior’s entourage jubilantly entering the cage and one of them handing him the flag of Hizbullah, which is classified as a “terrorist organization” by Washington.

Afterwards, Ali triumphantly raises the flag and waves it to the cheering spectators present at the arena.

Liberals hate America and yet they love to call us “un-American,” does that mean they secretly love us? How about if you call a lib “un-American,” do they take it as a compliment?

“This crowd doesn’t want to deal because they believe the word ‘deal’ is bad,” Matthews said. “Think about that — they come to Washington with the idea that deals are bad. Compromise is bad. That is un-American.”

Ever notice how Obama only offends our long-time allies like Israel and Britain?

(Daily Mail) — Just a few weeks ago, Barack Obama hailed the ‘extraordinarily special relationship’ between America and Britain.

But it is clearly one he doesn’t know all that much about if his latest foreign policy gaffe is anything to go by.

The U.S. President has come under fire today after referring to the ‘English’ instead of the British Embassy in his condemnation of the violence that broke out at the building in Iran yesterday.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Obama said: ‘All of us are deeply disturbed by the, err, crashing of, err, the English Embassy, err, the embassy of the United Kingdom.’

By calling it the ‘embassy of the United Kingdom’, he got it wrong a second time.

It appears there has never been an English Embassy, although there have been English ambassadors centuries ago.
