Oakland Police Not Exactly Thrilled Mayor Encouraging City Workers To Attend Occupy Protests…

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE CITIZENS OF OAKLAND FROM THE OAKLAND POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION

We represent the 645 police officers who work hard every day to protect the citizens of Oakland. We, too, are the 99% fighting for better working conditions, fair treatment and the ability to provide a living for our children and families. We are severely understaffed with many City beats remaining unprotected by police during the day and evening hours.

As your police officers, we are confused.

On Tuesday, October 25th, we were ordered by Mayor Quan to clear out the encampments at Frank Ogawa Plaza and to keep protesters out of the Plaza. We performed the job that the Mayor’s Administration asked us to do, being fully aware that past protests in Oakland have resulted in rioting, violence and destruction of property.

Then, on Wednesday, October 26th, the Mayor allowed protesters back in — to camp out at the very place they were evacuated from the day before.

To add to the confusion, the Administration issued a memo on Friday, October 28th to all City workers in support of the “Stop Work” strike scheduled for Wednesday, giving all employees, except for police officers, permission to take the day off.

That’s hundreds of City workers encouraged to take off work to participate in the protest against “the establishment.” But aren’t the Mayor and her Administration part of the establishment they are paying City employees to protest? Is it the City’s intention to have City employees on both sides of a skirmish line?

It is all very confusing to us.

Meanwhile, a message has been sent to all police officers: Everyone, including those who have the day off, must show up for work on Wednesday. This is also being paid for by Oakland taxpayers. Last week’s events alone cost Oakland taxpayers over $1 million.

The Mayor and her Administration are beefing up police presence for Wednesday’s work strike they are encouraging and even “staffing,” spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for additional police presence — at a time when the Mayor is also asking Oakland residents to vote on an $80 parcel tax to bail out the City’s failing finances.

All of these mixed messages are confusing.

We love Oakland and just want to do our jobs to protect Oakland residents. We respectfully ask the citizens of Oakland to join us in demanding that our City officials, including Mayor Quan, make sound decisions and take responsibility for these decisions. Oakland is struggling — we need real leaders NOW who will step up and lead — not send mixed messages. Thank you for listening.

The mayor should resign in disgrace he needs a boot out of office right in the seat of his pants

The Mayorette should be hung from a street light.
I have zero sympathy for Oakland. They have been asking for this for years.
Any problems that arise from their Liberal thinking agenda are their own fault.

The Police, if they had any balls would either arrest the Mayorette, or just walk off the job and tell the City officials and the people of Oakland to call them when they want their city back.

The City of Oakland is giving the entire city staff, including teachers and school administrators (but excluding the police) a PAID day off to attend this “shut down.”

    Here is the live stream

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/02/watch-live-occupy-oakland-prepares-for-general-strike/

I just saw some of the leaders of Occupy announce to the crowd that “we are going to stand up to these f$%*ers”, meaning the police.

this is going to get ugly……

The mayor is failing in her most basic duty which is to protect the citizens of Oakland. She needs to be recalled, impeached, or whatever action necessary to remove her from office.

    @ sb…

The Police should go home and wait for orders to re-take the City.
    Put up or shut up.

Let’s see how the City officials like what will happen when Barry’s OWS Riot Squad takes over.

The police should quit. Tell the mayor to deal with it herself.

Civil “servants” who are eager to take a paid holiday to protest against those fellow citizens that are largely responsible for seeing that they are paid.

This is Obama’s fundamentally transformed America. I am disgusted beyond words. I am ashamed of these people, my fellow citizens.

This is from Mayorette Quan of Oakland’s apology letter. It’s worth reading in it’s entirety and I’d suggest researching William Benbow too.

“I say ban the banks and abolish money. The people are breaking out of their acquiescence. They can make decisions over their own lives. The Occupy Oakland encampment prefigured a way of life that makes the status quo obsolete. Instead of an exploitative system based on the buying and selling of things and our time, let us create a life of ease, gaiety and pleasure for all, as William Benbow originally suggested. Let us not only shut the city down. Let us take it over and run it in a wholly new way. Together we can make every day a holiday.”

Jean Quan, Honorable Mayor of Oakland

Quan sounds deranged, and should be removed from office.

Is there some legal mechanism by which that may be accomplished, citing health reasons, or unfitness to serve?

Of course the local morning news was on this all excited like, not saying anything about what the OPD thought about it. They were giving times and locations for all the school kids and city workers to “do their part”.

No mixed message there from the complicit media.

  22. Xavier says:

    @Axel:

I’ve learned to rip their entire websites on a regular basis. ;)

Someone unknown has provided charter buses to the Oakland protesters and they’re headed for the Port of Oakland now. Chase, Wells Fargo, and BOA were all vandalized. Protesters advising everyone working in downtown to join them or leave immediately.

  23. Logic Mine says:
    November 2, 2011 at 7:08 pm

What needs to happen is that the people of Oakland AND the Police dept. need to work together and PHYSICALLY REMOVE mayor from office and inform him that he has been TERMINATED from his position for failing to provide the Leadership required for that position.

An interim shall be appointed by the city council.

  24. Logic Mine says:

Oakland is about to become a ghost town. If I owned a business there I would leave and never go back. And I can’t believe that I am any different in my thinking than those who have businesses there. Let all the banks shut their doors and leave forever. Let Oakland sink into the putrescence it created.

If the Mayor really wrote was what posted above, then she should be jailed and changed with incitement to riot. Additionally, she should be charged with misuse of government funds for paying government employees to attend a violent protest.

This is unbelievable….the Left has lost its mind.

Whether in writing or verbally, the Mayor must have conveyed the jist of your paste because the Oakland Police Chief ackowleged some of it in his open letter to the public.

I just want to smack every one of these idiots wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. The character “V” wore one because he was scarred from being tortured and experimented on…BY THE GOVERNMENT. In the movie, all the other people wore them in solidarity with V. Not to hide their identities.

These idiots don’t even know what they’re protesting.
