A key Occupy Wall Street leader and another protester who leads a double life as a businessman ditched fetid tents and church basements for rooms at a luxurious hotel that promises guests can “unleash [their] inner Gordon Gekko,” The Post has learned.
The $700-per-night W Hotel Downtown last week hosted both Peter Dutro, one of a select few OWS members on the powerful finance committee, and Brad Spitzer, a California-based analyst who not only secretly took part in protests during a week-long business trip but offered shelter to protesters in his swanky platinum-card room.
“Tents are not for me,” he confessed, when confronted in the sleek black lobby of the Washington Street hotel where sources described him as a “repeat” guest.
Spitzer, 24, an associate at financial-services giant Deloitte, which netted $29 billion in revenue last year, admitted he joined the protest at Zuccotti Park several times.
“I’m staying here for work,” said Spitzer, dressed down in a company T-shirt and holding a backpack and his suitcase. “I do finance, but I support it still.”

What is not surprising for WZ is how completely shallow this article is in the face of real threats to civil liberties. OWS would have died on the vine but not for police thuggery, egged on by a decade of it’s OK to torture. Because if torture is OK, everything below it is automatically on the table for rapid, swaggering deployment.

@Jamie – re you accountability statement; sounds pretty much like the TEA party to me…. Minus the slovenliness and anarchy aspects, of course. Squatting in buildings and shitting on sidewalks does NOT make for friends and happy neighbors. Throw in some hypocrisy, threats to kill cops, and theft and rape, and you can see where they are NOT taken seriously. So when your little groups want to coalesce into something with a unified voice that respects civility is when you will be treated as adults. Otherwise they’re gonna end up having the shit beat outta them on a routine basis…and this you know. And you’d better hope none of ‘em actually kills a cop because that’s when your little party will go up in flames. Of this you can be sure.

Your fixation on where people relive themselves unmasks your true intent: to find any excuse to stick fingers in ears and sing LA LA LA LA while the vast majority of your fellow citizens lose ground each month financially, knowing the whole house of cards is unsustainable. OWS knows this.

No I am not. Sitting unarmed on a sidewalk of a college campus you yourself attend does not qualify as a crime. It certainly does not invite the economy-sized pepper spray. It instead invites dialog. However, soon it will receive bullets, if history is any guide.

Your argument is flawed. You think OWS is about socialism. It is not. It’s about a fair shake for everyone. It’s about enforcing laws for everyone. It’s about recognizing we’re all in this together to win it, for us, and who comes after. The vehicle to get there is capitalism, with safety nets, and at least SOME recognition of the word “enough.” OWS recognizes this.

This type of rhetoric that justifies violence on Police is intolerable. Go back and look at the root cause of this situation—it is called liberalism and it is a mental disorder. If you decide to bring a child into this world then it is your responsibility to raise/nurture them with values, respect, poise, principles and personal responsibility–not some politician that sets up dependents/cronies to vote them in every cycle. Or some reject college professor that is there to prey on impressionable minds. You now have an entire class of individuals that think the world owes them something.
Stop worrying about the plight of others and take care of yourself. My fault lies with the DoJ and the refusal to seat grand juries and probe matters related to both war crimes and where the trillions went in 2008. Add the President’s policy of continuing secret renditions, and telling us all to turn a blind eye to war crimes makes him an accomplice to the same. Obama is a tool until he either leaves office, or chooses not to be.
It is otherwise difficult to focus on actual policy because both the framers of it and the system in which they play their adult games is rankly corrupt, and deaf to the actual needs of the People. The deafness is also deliberate.
America will soon need its Nuremberg Moment. Right now, the consequences for false war, torture, conspiracy, treaty abrogation, and grand theft is nothing, nothing at all.
But sitting, unarmed students occupying a campus they themselves attend are fair game for wanton assault by over-hyped police who have been told for a decade torture — and therefore all thuggery violence on down — is just fine.
