It’s Official: Supercommittee Announces It Has Failed…

This is why Boehner and McConnell should have never cut this deal, the U.S. military’s about to be literally gutted.

(Roll Call) — The super committee has officially failed.

In a joint news release, Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction Co-Chairmen Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) said they concluded today that they will not be able to make “any bipartisan agreement” public before the deadline.

The brief statement was mostly positive and forward-looking, saying the co-chairmen were “disappointed” at the failure but “hopeful” that Congress would act in its place.

“Despite our inability to bridge the committee’s significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation’s fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve,” the statement said.

The two also said they hoped Congress could “build on this committee’s work.”

The statement also thanked the 12 members of the super committee; two staffers, Staff Director Mark Prater and Deputy Staff Director Sarah Kuehl; and Douglas Elmendorf of the Congressional Budget Office and Thomas Barthold of the Joint Committee on Taxation.

I wonder when repubs are going to get tired of saying “Boehner and McConnell should have never…”

Of course it failed! It was set up to fail. All one had to do was look at the people picked for this committee.

    @Zcat

yep the goal of this was to cripple the Military and that is what will occur. What goons like Obama and his pet Leon want because the Military is too much a threat to his friends in the middle east.

This entire Alinsky tactic was classic… was for optics only– outcome is exactly what Obama wanted. Now he can blame the lame Repubs for not cooperating at what they are supposed to be known for–compromising. Boehner, you are not a wartime leader. You can not defeat your enemy unless you are willing to define them. Step up and declare that he owns the OWS crowd and all they stand for. Do what Newt is doing—stand them down. WTF. Now Obama is going to use you like a tool and dress you all down in a news conference.

Now the military will suffer the losses that he is praying for. The only entity that has any honor left in our country. He despises our military and the left knows that once they destroy them , they can really start to enslave the producers.

This whole SuperCommittee was a set up, politcal theater from the start.
They were charged with cutting 1.2 Trillion, but it was over TEN years.
Our deficit will balloon so much in the next ten years that 1.2 Trillion will seem like a drop in the bucket.

The “triggered automatic” cuts don’t start until 2013, AFTER the election.

We’ve been scammed by them all… the purpose… to take our minds off the debt limit debate, which NONE of them intended on voting on anyway.

I hate to say it, but Ron Paul was the only one of any significance who was on the right side here.

Question? Why is it that Patty Murray ( on super stupid committee), Elena Kagan and Janet Napolitano have facial features that are so similar? Are they related? Is some foreign entity dropping DNA altering chemicals in the drinking water?

One thing is certain, they are all angry, all vindictive, sympathetic to Islam and want to dismantle America as founded.

This was an attempt to cut $120 billion a year from a $3+ trillion budget that, by law, will increase by 6% next year and every year thereafter. This entire episode. The idea that these assholes cannot find $120 billion worth of worthless programs when the GAO already sent them a list that would save $220 billion by eliminating and consolidating duplicate programs.

Talk about pissing into the wind.

Just the makeup of the so called “Super Committee” foretold its failure. The most radical of democrats as opposed to the meekest Republicans spell is out.

With that said and based on what I’ve heard, DOD will bear 50% of the the mandated cuts with the other 50% being shared by the rest of government. This sounds odd since DOD hardly comprises 25% of total budget outlays.

Of course, if one were free to identify and cut all the fraud, waste and abuse, he could come up with nearly 40% of the DOD budget but we sure cannot have any of that!

Oh what a crooked slippery path we have created…

It was going to fail. The Democrats would never agree to the real cuts necessary to save our economy. The Republicans tried to get this message across but all the Democrats want is tax increases. If thye Republicans had caved in on taxes to make a deal many out there would be howling for RINO blood. The only thing that can change things now is the 2012 election. All Democrats must be voted out.

A big digital salute to Obama and friends.

The last Obama budget — designed to fail.
The Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction committee — ignored.
The Great Compromise that produced the Super Committe — designed to fail.
Selection of Democrat Super Committee members — designed to fail.

But somehow, it’s the Republicans who are at fault?

I want to see for myself what proposals are put on the table and who opposes them and why. I don’t believe either side has been telling the truth.

Obungle is ALWAYS playing for the “other team”.

    @ TimT, NJK et al

Neither Boehner nor McConnell have the wit or backbone to stand up to the Dems. It seems to me they are always being outmaneuvered. Case in point.
I want to see real budget cuts EXECUTED before any more revenues.

I think Cantor does, but is held back by Boehner. In any event , there are better choices.

Jim DeMint should be the Senate Minority leader (until 2013, then Majority leader). He gets it.
