It’s Official: Supercommittee Announces It Has Failed…

This is why Boehner and McConnell should have never cut this deal, the U.S. military’s about to be literally gutted.
Comments & pings are closed.(Roll Call) — The super committee has officially failed.
In a joint news release, Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction Co-Chairmen Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) said they concluded today that they will not be able to make “any bipartisan agreement” public before the deadline.
The brief statement was mostly positive and forward-looking, saying the co-chairmen were “disappointed” at the failure but “hopeful” that Congress would act in its place.
“Despite our inability to bridge the committee’s significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation’s fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve,” the statement said.
The two also said they hoped Congress could “build on this committee’s work.”
The statement also thanked the 12 members of the super committee; two staffers, Staff Director Mark Prater and Deputy Staff Director Sarah Kuehl; and Douglas Elmendorf of the Congressional Budget Office and Thomas Barthold of the Joint Committee on Taxation.

I wonder when repubs are going to get tired of saying “Boehner and McConnell should have never…”
Of course it failed! It was set up to fail. All one had to do was look at the people picked for this committee.
The Dems hatred of “The rich” blinds them to all else.
My thoughts exactly when I saw who the Democrats were on the committee.
@Zcat
yep the goal of this was to cripple the Military and that is what will occur. What goons like Obama and his pet Leon want because the Military is too much a threat to his friends in the middle east.
anyone who thinks democrats do anything in good faith get what the deserve.
Newt said very early on that the supercommittee was “the dumbest thing ever”, or something to that effect. Truer words were never spoken!
playing Taps for my country….
@newmike
Yep both Speaker and Leader need to be ousted for letting this committee deal occur under the BS of “don’t worry, if it fails they’ll lose more face and we will.”
THIS ISN’T A GAME YOU LOSERS!!!!!!
Crush the Beltway out of existence
Cain 2012
Here’s my middle finger to both of these RINO leaders!!!! You failed the nation when you gutlessly failed to CUT SPENDING!!!!!
Rather than cut oversized government they chose to imperil our lives by reducing security. SHAME
This entire Alinsky tactic was classic… was for optics only– outcome is exactly what Obama wanted. Now he can blame the lame Repubs for not cooperating at what they are supposed to be known for–compromising. Boehner, you are not a wartime leader. You can not defeat your enemy unless you are willing to define them. Step up and declare that he owns the OWS crowd and all they stand for. Do what Newt is doing—stand them down. WTF. Now Obama is going to use you like a tool and dress you all down in a news conference.
Now the military will suffer the losses that he is praying for. The only entity that has any honor left in our country. He despises our military and the left knows that once they destroy them , they can really start to enslave the producers.
Bam aout to make another spech, (damn middle finger up again!)
How many times will he say :corporate jet owners” ?
My father, who is a self made man; law abiding and tax paying, told me today that he wishes that someone would just drop a nuclear bomb on Washington……. to save the rest of us in this once great country.
We are a country with NO LEADERSHIP!
Obama: “Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?”
The dems set this up to fail without a doubt, but defense will not be gutted. i don’t know actual numbers but defense increases were plugged in for about 23% over whatever time period. now they will still rise by about 16% ABO 2012
@sb:
Your Dad is not alone in his exasperation.
@ chillis65, I don’t think that in the end, military will be cut as bad as it seems either.
Besides, if we can get ABO in 2012 , we straighten this up.
No corporate jet owner references! I only heard “fair share” once. TOTUS wasn’t in the room though so……
This whole SuperCommittee was a set up, politcal theater from the start.
They were charged with cutting 1.2 Trillion, but it was over TEN years.
Our deficit will balloon so much in the next ten years that 1.2 Trillion will seem like a drop in the bucket.
The “triggered automatic” cuts don’t start until 2013, AFTER the election.
We’ve been scammed by them all… the purpose… to take our minds off the debt limit debate, which NONE of them intended on voting on anyway.
I hate to say it, but Ron Paul was the only one of any significance who was on the right side here.
Looks like all the polls I see show the Democrats have successfully pinned the blame for this on the Republicans. Say hello to President Obama and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Question? Why is it that Patty Murray ( on super stupid committee), Elena Kagan and Janet Napolitano have facial features that are so similar? Are they related? Is some foreign entity dropping DNA altering chemicals in the drinking water?
One thing is certain, they are all angry, all vindictive, sympathetic to Islam and want to dismantle America as founded.
When I saw the list of Dems on the committee, I knew it was doomed. It was a true A-list of Dems. Or, I should say A-hole list.
Ask yourself, how could they possibly stage a successful “revolution” without gutting the military first?
OWS may just be the appetizer for what is yet to come.
Obama’s going to blame the Republicans – AND GET AWAY WITH IT?
Blame the Democrats equally.
If this is part of some master plan it has backfired: Blame the President for zero leadership.
Newt — we’re waiting for your one-liner to nail this one.
The elections can’t come fast enough. This will be a make or break for this country. I pray that we will get a real leader.
Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles saw this coming.
@ B-Line….BINGO
I just saw a BREAKING NEWS report that Obama has said he will veto any attempt at restoring the automatic cuts to the military.
The war begins.
I just want to know when we’re going to get rid of Boehner and McConnell!
As Rush said today, this “supercommittee” was never meant to succeed at anything…Now, obama and the dems can blame repubs for not passing his latest tax and spend fiasco, and still gut the military, something obama’s always wanted to do anyway…This sonofabitch has a lot of future blood on his marxist hands….
This is actually great news…there is a silver lining…anyone who was teetering on the edge about the Democretins but who understands the importance of national defense – we got their vote now.
I refer to it as the Stupidcommittee,. I’m sick of this behind the closed door crap. It would be better to have everything in regular session so we can see who is screwing us the most.
This was an attempt to cut $120 billion a year from a $3+ trillion budget that, by law, will increase by 6% next year and every year thereafter. This entire episode. The idea that these assholes cannot find $120 billion worth of worthless programs when the GAO already sent them a list that would save $220 billion by eliminating and consolidating duplicate programs.
Talk about pissing into the wind.
This failed USA president could salvage something of his record by recognizing and acting on a need to resign BEFORE his first term expires.
Just the makeup of the so called “Super Committee” foretold its failure. The most radical of democrats as opposed to the meekest Republicans spell is out.
With that said and based on what I’ve heard, DOD will bear 50% of the the mandated cuts with the other 50% being shared by the rest of government. This sounds odd since DOD hardly comprises 25% of total budget outlays.
Of course, if one were free to identify and cut all the fraud, waste and abuse, he could come up with nearly 40% of the DOD budget but we sure cannot have any of that!
Oh what a crooked slippery path we have created…
Obama played the Republican leadership like a piano, orchestrating the outcome just as he intended.
Is anyone thinking ahead….just saying…the SEIU is responsible for the maintenance of many many of the electronic voting machines? Can we spell out FRAUD in all caps!!!!!!!!!!!
File that one under: fait accompli.
libertyinall50 – yes to everything you said!
“We will bury you without firing a shot.”
@Zcat – you have it right. All these committees of rats are set up to fail by wasting more money (their salaries, their benefits) year after year, decade after decade.
The government is a failure all the way back to that Rat Bastard Lyndon Johnson,
may he rot in hell.
It was going to fail. The Democrats would never agree to the real cuts necessary to save our economy. The Republicans tried to get this message across but all the Democrats want is tax increases. If thye Republicans had caved in on taxes to make a deal many out there would be howling for RINO blood. The only thing that can change things now is the 2012 election. All Democrats must be voted out.
A big digital salute to Obama and friends.
The last Obama budget — designed to fail.
The Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction committee — ignored.
The Great Compromise that produced the Super Committe — designed to fail.
Selection of Democrat Super Committee members — designed to fail.
But somehow, it’s the Republicans who are at fault?
As Bunker says, this isnt a fucking game
One of the listed cuts in Panetta’s memo making the rounds, includes the complete elimination of the land-based ICBM Force.
No, this aint no fucking game, unless someone is playing for the other team
I can sum it all up in two words…
Well, duh!
I can’t even look at the Republicans. Boehner needs to go. He should have never agreed to this politboro. He got what he had coming. The guys a doormat.
WE NEED A NEW SPEAKER!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, I am yelling. Wimpy, limp wristed RINO’s are selling their country out along with their souls on this deal. Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, etc. they are just as bad as any Demonrat. They sold the military out for NOTHING!!!!
Told you so….these two jerks were always part of the problem…NOT part of the solution. Now do you believe me? Where did I put that blind, deaf, fool ?
Any and all budget meetings held in the future MUST be in open public meetings. No more closed doors! I don’t believe either side when they claim the other side is at fault. I want to see for myself what proposals are put on the table and who opposes them and why. I don’t believe either side has been telling the truth.
Obama has been successful at his main goal-bankrupt this country, weaken our military, strengthen our enemies, rearrange the power structure in the Middle East to be even more radically Islamic , destroy the American economy…this guy has been working for someone but it is not the American people…one would wonder if this mole were not put in place to so weaken this nation that we are a prime candidate for enemies to attack us..if China and Russia joined forces to put us down they might have some real success..
@ Ken H:
Obungle is ALWAYS playing for the “other team”.
@ TimT, NJK et al
Neither Boehner nor McConnell have the wit or backbone to stand up to the Dems. It seems to me they are always being outmaneuvered. Case in point.
I want to see real budget cuts EXECUTED before any more revenues.
I think Cantor does, but is held back by Boehner. In any event , there are better choices.
Jim DeMint should be the Senate Minority leader (until 2013, then Majority leader). He gets it.
