Occupy Wall Street: Only 1.6% of Protesters Are Black…
And we all know if this story was about the Tea Party instead of OWS the left would be howling that it’s proof the movement is racist.
(WaPo) — Occupy Wall Street might seem like a movement that would resonate with black Americans. After all, unemployment among African Americans is at 15 percent, vs. almost 8 percent for whites. And between 2005 and 2009, black households lost just over half of their median net worth compared with white families, who lost 16 percent, according to the Pew Research Center.
However, these numbers have not translated into action. A few prominent African Americans, such as Cornel West, Russell Simmons, Kanye West and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), have made appearances at Occupy protests. “Occupy the Hood,” a recent offshoot, has tried to get more people of color involved. But the main movement remains overwhelmingly white: A Fast Company survey last month found that African Americans, who are 12.6 percent of the U.S. population, make up only 1.6 percent of Occupy Wall Street.
African Americans share white Americans’ anger about corporate greed and corruption, and blacks have a rich history of protesting injustice in United States. So why aren’t they Occupying?
“Occupy Wall Street was started by whites and is about their concern with their plight,” Nathalie Thandiwe, a radio host and producer for WBAI in New York, said in an interview. “Now that capitalism isn’t working for ‘everybody,’ some are protesting.”

The point was that, over the past year or so, we’ve been told how the TEA Parties were nothing but white people (which we know is crap, but that’s a different story).
And now this stupid-ass OWS movement, that is supposed to comprise the 99%, is more liliy-white than the TEA parties could have ever dreamed of being.
It’s all about the blatant hypocrisy of the left and the media.

I don’t care what color they are. only hypocrites ( the left) points out colors.
I’m going out on a limb here to say the reason so few blacks re protesting is because they don’t have rich mommies and daddies paying for with allowances from trust funds, etc. so they can be layabouts. How else can they afford to travel to these places, buy all that equipment and stay fed?

Fair enough. And for the record, I’m with you…I really don’t care about the color of the protestors either. The hypocrisy of the left is just too glaring though.
It’s fun watching this whole Occupy ‘movement’ fall apart as the mask slips off, showing America what they’re really all about.

The only unifying theme behind the various OWS demands is “we don’t want to pay off the student loans we voluntarily accepted so that we could go to overpriced schools to pursue degrees that bring no marketable skills.” That’s not an issue that resonates with much of black America.
They can up the “black” quotient of the Occupy crowds if they count the protesters’ filth-feet.

The statistic quoted in the article-blacks lost half of their worth during 2005-2009 came from where. The dems playbook. These years of course are from the Bush yrs. Wonder whta the figure is for 2009-2011 the BO yrs??????Anybody know where the 2005-2009 figure came from. If not from a credible source then I discount it.
For one, the blacks have more common sense than to camp out in the cold and rainy weather.
They get paid w/welfare, food stamps so why should they protest? They are happy w/what they have. The rest of the blacks are working jobs and focusing on taking care of their families. The blacks that are out there protesting are most likely the homeless ones looking for free food and shelter, at least that is what I have observed other than the celebrities looking for free publicity.
It is the hypocrisy. I do think the next time I engage w/a supporter of OWS I will bring up how racist they are.

Well, I will be howling that this is proof that makes THEM racist. Couple that with their bigoted attacks against Jews, and you’ve got a pretty good brew, if I say so, myself.
I mentioned this in my blog. I think many black people are afraid because of their (our) history of police brutality. The coverage of OWS has been superficial and constantly shows the rioting and the pepper spraying. It makes sense for many black people to been apprehensive.
I can’t wait to go to Occupy Wall Street again. I’ve always been fairly active in civic causes but I have never felt this inspired.

These OWS’ers are by and large well educated. Not to say they learned anything useful, but they have a diploma (off to see the wizard). Most of them are smart enough to not occupy the hood. Only reason for them to go there is to buy dope, then didi.

Former Republican Speaker of the House Newton Leroy Gingrich lugs around almost as much baggage as a former candidate for the presidency lugged around before he won that office in 1992.
The chief difference between Gingrich and William Jefferson Blythe Clinton is that the former’s dirty linens will probably deny him the Republican nomination in 2012 and the latter’s less-fastidious Democrats elected him twice.
Both developments are damned shames.
Despite Democrat claims to be the Party of the People, which may have been true when they were led by FDR and the people were desperate and later involved in a war FDR manipulated, since at least 1964 the GOP has better reflected the dominant sentiment of Americans in all matters save failed social experiments.
Over the years, muddled-thinking wags have suggested that the best of all political worlds would see a Democrat in charge of domestic policy and a Republican conducting foreign affairs. Aside from the unconstitutionality of such a scenario, the country would be bankrupted by Democrats and so destitute we would be unable to function beyond our borders.
However, none of that speculation is relevant to a Newt Gingrich presidency since Republicans are more inclined to lose than to hold their noses and vote for a guy who isn’t perfect.
Newt is anything but perfect from a conservative point of view or from any other point of view, although he is nowhere near the insensitive ogre, the grinch the mainstream media has painted him . . .
