Planned Parenthood Chief Outraged After Obama Admin Rejects Plan Allowing Over The Counter Sale of Morning After Pill To Underage Girls…

Planned Parenthood is so pissed that their president (and major Obama backer) Cecile Richards is demanding a meeting with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
Comments & pings are closed.(LifeNews) — The president of the nation’s biggest abortion business is upset that her political ally Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, rejected a company’s bid to see the morning after pill over the counter to underage girls.
Cecile Richards released a letter today to demand a meeting with Sebelius concerning the decision.
“I write to request a meeting to discuss the Department of Health and Human Services’ decision yesterday to overrule the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and deny Teva Women’s Health Inc’s application to make Plan B One-Step emergency contraception available over the counter to women of all reproductive age,” she said.
“All women deserve timely access to emergency contraception and Teva’s proposal to lift the unnecessary and burdensome barriers to EC was both based on sound science and in the interest of public health. HHS’ decision to overrule the FDA hurts all women by imposing arbitrary restrictions on a product that is only effective when taken in a timely manner,” Richards wrote.
The Obama administration was examining the possibility of selling the morning after pill to teenagers and the FDA had until today to respond to a request from the maker of the Plan B drug to sell it on the shelves and not behind the pharmacist’s counter. However, although the FDA initially approved the decision, the HHS department overruled it.

Meanwhile I have to still wait in line for the tobacco cage to get a pack of smokes.
Yes, it’s best not to sell abortifacents over the counter to people who may intend them for the surreptitious murder of other people’s children.
Tough shit. We already have the ‘morning before’ pill, which PP is more than happy to dispense to your tween without your knowledge.
When soon can we defund this band of baby killers?
This is odd. What’s going on? I know Sebelius didn’t reject this proposal for moral or health related reasons, so there must be a political reason. Which in the Obama administration trumphs every other consideration.
It will be interesting to hear their spin…
Because it can actually be used against women, and most likely will be, alot. It’s much more often the father who wants the baby killed, and if he can just slip her a pill instead of talking about it, well….
Too bad it can’t be retroactive to 1961 or so…..just sayn’
Cecile Richards needs to be aborted. People like that need to be removed from society when it proves averse to society.
Looking for that to be reversed in the not-to-distant future. Sumpin’s not right.
@hoodaticus
Excellent point. I’m ashamed to say that didn’t occur to me.
However, being the cynic that I am, I find it hard to believe that Sebelius would have a problem with this scenario considering her aim of aborting as many children as possible. Is it possible that Sebelius might have a problem with involuntary abortion?
No it won’t. There’s no legal way to restrict OTC sale to only pregnant women. GNC would sooner sell GHB again, or roophies.
Seems like they would be happy with this decision, since that pill being readily available would cut way down on their abortion rate at the actual clinic…I would think.
@Katherine
She doesn’t want to abort her own political future when hundreds of cases of forced abortion through PlanB start working their way through the court system.
It all has to do with money, they fund this administration……
I’m very confused by their actions. I suspect there’s more to the story than we’re getting right now. As Katherine said, political considerations trump everything in the bs administration.
What voting block are they risking by allowing teenagers to purchase this OTC? Do musloids find this offensive? Did Teva Pharmaceuticals forget to make a campaign donation?
Sure, keep this poison pill OTC.
This is the group that brought you eugenics…oh wait, that was Hitler, Chairman Mao.
Same group, different century.
@alikat LOL. I love your insinuation that Planned Parenthood is late on their payments.
@alikat
Not only does Planned Parenthood fund the administration, but the administration funds them.
The best metaphor I can find is Hitler 69′ing with Stalin.
I guess PPhood forgot to send in their goons to shake down this admin….
If there is a Hell people like Cecile Richards will be forced to live the last terrifying and agonizing moments every aborted fetus they help kill for all enterity.
@hoodaticus 8:04, Yup. Some time while back I recall having stating something quite similar to that on some other thread.
————————————————————————————————when taken in a timely manner,” Richards wrote.
I prefer that underage youngsters (girls) whose bodies are still in a state of growth changes, etc. not be given something at such a stage. I would consider that most untimely. Also untimely for them to be dealing with the issues of intercourse.
##################################################
As far as even the usage of the “regular pill” to help underage girls to deal with certain health issues (not about pro-creations issues) I would consider that something that deserves quite a bit of precaution. All things considered.
Their obsession w/abortion is mind boggling. And sick, and scary.
Agreed, some political sleeze going on here. Follow the money trail.
An effort to be responsible with under age girls should be made anyway, either through a third party or some other means. This is due to the fact that many under age girls become pregnant. Probably thousands every year.
Apparently this idiot doesn’t see that empowering kids to abort babies is not a terribly smart thing to do. He doesn’t see the moral implications and the resulting problems this would create in the gene pool, going forward.
Typical liberal. Dumb ass.
Well the best birth control known to man is an aspirin…held tightly between the knees.
Something evil has arrived….
My guess is that this pill would cut into PP’s business and body counts, thus affecting funding. Who needs PP when you could take an OTC pill? Cecile should be thanking Kathleen Seabiscuit for considering the most viable business model in their horror show.
Here in Fl you have to ask the pharmacist for the good cold and sinus meds, the OTC stuff isn’t as strong. I don’t hear anyone whinning about my sinus health rights!!!!!!! Oh, right , babies don’t die if my nose is stuffy so who gives a damn.
Nobody in the o-hole regime is upset abt. this decision.
This is o-hole trying to soften his image as a pro-abortion fanatic. This is a charade with a planned hissy fit from planned parenthood.
He is trying to look pro-life.
Remember zero voted 3 times against the Born Alive Protection Act. And he said, he doesn’t want his daughters “punished with a BABY.”
He so wanted to let this OTC Morning After Pill go on sale to 12 year olds but he couldn’t risk it right now.
If he wins re-election, these pills will be available to young girls immediately.
That would be: The Infant Born Alive Protection Act.
I don’t know here. You all better be careful. If we don’t protect the child molesters in America; who will?
I mean put yourselves in the pedophiles position. You screw some 13 year girl, and she gets knocked up, you could be seen in a bad light.
So you know; lets do something rash.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Just kidding!
You have to remember that when RU486 was approved, Planned Parenthood got a sweetheart deal where they got a lower wholesale price and yet are still allowed to charge Medicare and Medicaid at the full price.
Sebelius has just cut them out of greater profits. No wonder that PP is upset.
It’s not the money that’s important, it’s the amount.
idk if anyone read this from PJ Media.
The Girl Scouts have been in the news over the past few years for various scandals. And they again were all over the news as a little boy named Bobby Montoya tried to join. The story started off predictably enough. Montoya and his mother tried to sign him up for the Girl Scouts only to be told by the local troop leader he was not allowed. Most boys would simply join the Boy Scouts. But Montoya is a special case. He lives his life as a girl, and so, he wants to be a Girl Scout.
After his rejection, his mother did what any common-sense, rational, responsible parent would: whine to the media.
“I said, ‘What’s the big deal?’ and she says, ‘It doesn’t matter how he looks, he has boy parts; he can’t be a Girl Scout,’” Archuleta told Colorado’s Channel 9 News.
Girl Scouts of Colorado were quick to clarify, saying that anyone with boy parts that lives life as a girl and whose family identifies him as such is allowed to join Girl Scouts. The “mix-up” was blamed on confusion, and how the mom introduced her child: as a boy.
Parents began scrutinizing the Girl Scouts several years ago. At a panel sponsored by the Girl Scouts USA at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, parents were kicked out of the room, which was filled with middle-school-aged girls. One mom was curious about what they were trying to hide so she stuck around. When the panel was over she snuck inside and found brochures from Planned Parenthood titled “Healthy, Happy, and Hot.” The brochure explained sex acts in explicit detail, told the girls that they were under no obligation to disclose STD infections to sexual partners, and demanded legalized abortion.
The sex guide explains, “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. But there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. Sex can include kissing, touching, licking, tickling, sucking and cuddling. Some people like to have aggressive sex, while others like to have soft sex and slow sex with their partners. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!” It tells girls to explore the prostate. Remember, this was distributed in a panel for adolescent girls.
Besides advice about the prostate, the brochure, subtitled “Rights, Sexuality and Living with HIV,” also gives incorrect and even dangerous information about rights and responsibilities. It tells the kids that, “sexual and reproductive rights are recognized around the world.”The brochure tells the kids that their rights are violated when governments require them to tell their HIV status to their sex partners.
… At the same UN meeting, which ended last Friday, the World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides produced a document saying young women “demand their sexual and reproductive rights including access to comprehensive sexuality education, and sexual and reproductive services including contraception and emergency contraception, in order to avoid unintended pregnancies” and also called for access to “safe abortion.”
Even the taxpayers are paying for their own Justice Department under Eric Holder to advance this agenda. The DOJ sued a New York school district and forced them to accommodate transvestite boys who wanted to wear mini-skirts and high heels to high school.
The federal government need not adopt and use taxpayer funds to push an agenda with which the overwhelming majority of American families disagree. But that is exactly what is happening, and the public needs to know all about it, particularly in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and New York.
@T2M 9:02
That is putting the peddle to the medal on that one! (kinda borrowing off the idea of IXLR8)
Does not the FDA know any better than to wait until November 3rd to attempt this?!?!?
Yes, far better to force these young girls, who really deserve punishment for having sex, to have an abortion or give birth …
This is all about a self-serving need to get re-elected. The pregnant girl is just a pawn. He needs the votes of the right and the men with red beenies; after all, girls under the age of 17 don’t vote.
According to him they aren’t bright enough to distinguish Plan B and contraception from bubble gum nor do they know enough not to swallow batteries after they have had unprotected sex.
The lack of access to contraception INCREASES the need for abortion. Women have always had the right to self-abort; it’s SAFE abortion that is in jeopardy. But, the forced-birthers are winning!
He just co-opted one of the winning GOP’s arguments, women don’t have a right to reproductive choice. You should be thrilled!
@cassie
Reading comprehension is your friend. No one is banning anything. We just don’t want it over the counter. This is not one argument for making this OTC that would not apply with equal force to actual life-saving drugs like penicillin, but they are prescription too.
Your comment is absolutely bat-shit crazy.
numbnuts did say his children would not be punished by getting knocked up. well this is one promise he kept
This is making birth control, contraception (NOT an abortion pill) inaccessable to those under 17 by requiring them to get a physician’s script – make and pay for an app’t within the short time period that Plan B is effective.
The last thing a teen wants to do is explain to her parents about unprotected sex and that she is sexually active and the last thing that daddy (and mommy) want to believe is their darlin’ little angel is actually having sex. So teenagers rely on the “pray” method. Do it and pray they don’t get pregnant … we know how well that works out. In the meantime, they are going to have sex, whether we like it or not! The possible shame and fear doesn’t stop them, never did (and probably didn’t stop you either as a teen). And punitive measures don’t stop them from having sex either …
While she’s praying (and the boy/man is suffering no consequences of the mutual act), she might also pray that the pharmacist she goes to doesn’t go all “Conscience Clause” on her so that she can’t buy it from behind the counter and even be asked for ID and to prove her age.
The right to reproductive care is a private personal decision and no woman should have to see the “permission” of anyone to make her choice about her body. It’s between her and her cloud being and anyone else she choses … Making a woman, no matter her age, beg for contraception is beyond reasonable.
I don’t understand and never will why anyone feels such a strong need to control another’s body and needs to intrude on the PRIVATE, PERSONAL health care of anyone else. Do boys need a prescription to buy condoms or have to ask for them from the pharmacist? Do they have to prove how old they are? Do they confuse bubble gum or batteries with contraceptives?
And why is giving birth or seeking an abortion the better alternatives because the hoops a young girl has to jump thru and over, in the narrow window of time that she has to act, makes the use of a SAFE and EFFECTIVE contraceptive impossible. It is NOT an abortion pill; it is NOT RU486. She has exactly 72 hours to act but the sooner she takes it the more effective it is.
It stops ovulation … so that conception cannot take place and if it taken place and the ovum is fertalized, Plan B prevents it from being implanted …
It’s not me who is bat-shit crazy. It’s not me who wants to strip women of their right to privacy and appropriate health care. It’s not me saying that it’s up to the woman to put an aspirin between her knees while denying her the right to actually prevent am unwatned pregnancy or force her to give birth … nor is it me who denys that kids have sex. Why not let them grow into their own sexuality at their own pace … support sexuality as it is a healthy normal part of life – an important part – and to make healthy choices about it. The more it is the forbidden fruit, the more teenagers want it! It’s not acting out or mishavior and punishment is not the answer … neither is shame or fear. It’s not me who has a reading-comprehension problem. Try looking in the mirror!
In case you didn’t get it, if contraception is not available it increases the need for abortion. Women, thruout history have always sought abortion or induced themselves – often at great risk to their health and lives. What is at stake here is SAFE CLEAN abortion or forcing a woman/girl to give birth if she cannot access contraception. Teens will continue to have sex … whether or not there is contraception. It’s the outcomes of that that is controlable.
Your comment doesn’t even make sense … no, it’s not like penacillin. It doesn’t “cure” anything. It’s preventive medicine, an emergency preventive medication … And YES, it is life-saving in some cases especially for the youngest who are the least equiped to deal physically, emotionally and even financially with the whole issue of birth and motherhood and even less equiped to go to her parents and tell them that a comdom broke, or fell off or that she had unprotected sex or arrange for an abortion at some point.
Aside from that add the cost to see a doctor, which will cost around $200 if you can even get an appointment that quickly and fill the prescription for around $70 … all within 72 hours …
Cannot figure out why Obmaa did this because the whole bunch of misogynistic wingnuts aren’t going to vote for him anyway.
You should all be happy as clams in mud at his decision …
“The right to reproductive care is a private personal decision” So why have everyone else pay for it?
Cassie,
Condoms do not require a prescription, no. Neither do rubber gloves, shampoo, Pop-Rocks or tire irons. What these all have in common with each other is that they are not medicines. Children under the age of 18 can’t even go on a field trip without permissory paperwork.
You also take a wrong-headed stance with the condom question. You’re own comment on that destroys you’re entire plea. No, boys under 18 are not required to have parental permission when buying condoms… and neither are girls! So, girls under 18 can just buy condoms until they are of age. Problem solved, right? Something tells me you don’t buy that though.
They can buy all the condoms they want … but they still can’t make the guys use them nor can they prevent a failure if one breaks or the guy doesn’t use it correctly – it comes off, whatever. Indeed they should insist upon it and not just for contraception but for transmission of STDs … which Plan B doesn’t prevent.
This is about daddy having emotional issues with his own daughters having sex … not about contraception or even safe sex.
Why should “we” pay for it? Rather we pay for contraception than the social issues that are raised by an unwanted pregnancy … not only the interruption of a young girls edcuation but the young single mother and child who might likely wind up costing “us” far more for 18-years of services … rather than continue to pour money into the faith-based intitiatives and abstinence programs that are a dismal failure?
This is not an abortion pill. It does not abort anything … it prevents conception by inhibiting ovulation and implantation if conception has taken place.
The question raised is NOT who is going to pay for it … other than in the few places where girls are forced to go to family planning clinics that are subsidized; but who pays for other social services and programs – like war … or the fire dept or police dept or even education, programs that benefit us all. Public health benefits us all … (those with insurance will have it provided “free” as part of their benefits as a form of contraception – each time you pay a premium, you pay for all sorts of prevention/treatment of others you might not chose for yourself) .
Besides, how is a young girl, especially a poor one, going to come up with the $50 – $70 to buy the product? (She may even notice that bubble gum and batteries don’t cost that much! – how much more condescending could a POTUS be?)
It’s political and is nothing more than a nod to the right-wingers who think that they have the right to impose their beliefs on everyone else – esepcially women, since they are incapable of making decisions for themselves or even understanding simple directions: take one pill and 12-hours later take a second.
Maybe you should advocate putting Tylenol behind the counter too. It after all presents a far greater danger with more calls to poisioning-control centers than any other toxic chemical and is not only life-threatening but can cause death within several days of an OD!
@Cassie (quote)
“They can buy all the condoms they want … but they still can’t make the guys use them nor can they prevent a failure if one breaks or the guy doesn’t use it correctly – it comes off, whatever.”
Hey dummy!
Pay attention to what you’re saying! Why will you not argue that the girl has the option to KEEP HER LEGS CLOSED!?!? That is a perfect example of a young girl making a decision for herself, no? You stupid fools always ignore the most basic, simple, common sense solutions. You act like the choice for girls to keep their legs closed is no choice at all. THEY’RE KIDS, DIPSHIT!
(quote) – “This is about daddy having emotional issues with his own daughters having sex … not about contraception or even safe sex. ”
Do you actually try to be this stupid. It’s a meaningless argument. Women argue against your point as well. Don’t be a moron. I don’t have kids myself. What’s my reasoning, genious?
And, lastly, it doesn’t even matter what you argue in defense of this pill. Like I said, it’s MEDICINE, dummy! That’s why they shouldn’t be able to just go and get it!
