TEHRAN (WaPo) — In the Islamic republic of Iran, the law requires women to cover their hair and bodies in public. But how to do so remains up to them, and the result is persistent confusion in the streets.
Though leading Shiite Muslim clerics advise women to wear chadors — the traditional head-to-toe cloak, usually black — Iran’s urban fashionistas increasingly prefer tight-fitting coats and scant head scarves.
Now, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is stepping into the dispute. He wants to settle it by promoting government-approved apparel for women, garments intended to introduce an array of clothes that are “Islamic and beautiful” at the same time.
Hard-liners are not amused. They say that the new designs encourage “Western values.” But at a recent government-sponsored fashion show, young women and their mothers gazed approvingly at the plastic mannequins showcasing the new coats and scarves.

Jilbab
Originally refered to a spatial curtain that divides an area or provides privacy. The Quran instructs the male believers to talk to wives of Prophet Muhammad behind an al- hijab or jilbab.
The modesty in the Qu’an concerns both men’s and women’s gaze, gait, garments, and genitalia. The clothing for women involves khumur over the necklines and jilbab (covers/cloaks) in public so that they may be identified and not harmed.
jilbab/hijab – Originally refered to a spatial curtain that divides an area or provides privacy. Now it refers to a cloak worn over the Kimaar and covers from the head to the toe.
Kimaar or shaylah-a scarf or cowl that covers all but the face.
khumur – worn underneath the jilbab.
birka /burqa- garment that covers women completely: either only the eyes are visible, or nothing at all.
At least they come prepared for muslim men’s favorite hobby – rape.No ugly face to look at and a cover to prevent sand in yucky places.
What’s the big deal here?
It’s not like we don’t keep OUR lawns cut, edges trimmed, flower beds weeded, decks sealed, and siding painted here in this country.
How they want to keep up THEIR property over there is their bidness.
So long as they keep it up.
