Yes, they’re actually claiming third-grade children wrote these lyrics and chose the topic as well. Because what eight-year-old child isn’t obsessed with class warfare?

C’mon peoples… this principle is spot on – I know from experience, my 9 yr old son and I were sitting down not 2 weeks ago over a hot cup-a-joe to discuss what he was going to do over his “Holiday break” and he told me “I’m not sure pops, you know I have been working so hard that I never see my family so i’m looking forward to reading this new Chomsky book I got from the library and honing my scooter skills”.
I asked him what he wanted from Santa, he told me that although a new PS3 would be sweet, he still hadn’t really gotten over the the sting of losing a handsome portion of his college fund when the “bubble burst” in 07 and admitted his pride was a hurt a bit when he was asked to move into his sisters room after she left for college.
After a good discussion and a few laughs while catching up on the news, we topped off our Joe, he said he wanted to just relax for the day, occupy the neighborhood playground and peruse through the new Ikea catalog for some bedroom goodies so he could text off a list to Santa before it was too late.
I mean really folks I understand how these kids feel and fully see how they could come up with those lyrics.

I taught elementary school. This was ginned up by the Hippie Pan Alley and the 3rd. grade teacher. I never left the classroom when a guest was there. I was responsible to and for my kids and any outside content they were exposed to. What are third graders concerned about? —Who gets the recess equipment, who they play with at recess and who has the best stuff to eat or trade with at lunch time, that’s what! There was a video attached to this story. I looked at the kids sitting there, set apart from each other, bored out of their minds, and positioned like they were in detention.
Was the video I saw of them the one where they were supposedly making up the song? Where was the chart paper? Who did the writing and correcting? Unbelievable garbage!! This is really a travesty!! I wish someone could speak with each child seperately (at the same time) and ask them to explain the American system and how they understand about work and percents of people. I would like to see any of the children, then be told that IF they receive an allowance – that they need to give up things they have bought with their allowance. They should be told to give the items they’ve bought to other kids – whom either; don’t get an allowance or don’t have money given to them. THEN …….. ask the kids – which % do they equate to. LOL That would be interesting. We all should write that school and tell them that they should be teaching REAL PATRIOTISM for this country instead of trying to make the children feel like they should not reach for better things. If I was one of the parents, I would be down to that school in a heart beat.
