Or to put it another way, the White House asked Boehner to commit political suicide.
(Politico) — A senior White House official challenged House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to buck his own Republican conference — and pass the payroll tax, jobs and unemployment insurance bills with moderate Republicans and 60 to 70 Democrats.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity and on the (unusual) condition he wouldn’t be directly quoted, said that the Senate and a majority of House members could pass a longer-term deficit agreement, if only Boehner abandoned his insistence that all major bills be approved by a majority of ruling Republicans.
Abandoning such a stance, members on both sides have said, would almost certainly prompt a challenge to his leadership from conservatives who make up the bulk of the lower chamber GOP, a challenge the speaker is likely to lose.
“That’s remarkably stupid. The fact that the White House can’t get a full-year payroll tax cut extension through the Democrat-run Senate is the Senate Democratic Leadership’s fault — not John Boehner’s,” said Brendan Buck, the speaker’s press secretary. “The House was the only chamber to pass an extension of the payroll tax cut through 2012. We did it without job-killing tax increases, and we plan to again. ”

Did boehner challenge the unnamed official to “buck” the will of the ship of fools he is sailing on, and advocate for the return of unspent stimulus billions, the rollback of (un)health care reform, the dismantling of the EPA, and the immediate cessation of the ruinous “quantitative easing” imbecility?
How about the elimination of scores of unaccountable czars, the rule by executive order, or the just passed authority to detain US Citizens indefinitely without trial?
That’s a whole lot of bucking, innit?
