Perry Defends Marines From Obama’s “Over The Top” Rhetoric…
Thank you, Governor.
(USA Today) — GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry today criticized the Obama administration for its “over the top” rhetoric in response to a video that purports to show four U.S. Marines urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters.
Perry, speaking on CNN’s State of the Union program, said the reactions from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to the video is indicative of what he says is a “disdain” for the military by Obama officials.
“These kids made a mistake, no doubt about it,” Perry said, adding that when you’re 18 or 19 years old you do “dumb” things. “. . .To call it a criminal act is over the top.”

Not sure if the [P]resident has disdain for the Armed Forces, or is just completely ignorant as to the realities of military service. He, and the rest of his administration, certainly fail to understand that duty goes both ways.

I don’t know how the Marines committed a criminal act. Taliban are not in uniform and not part of an army of a country recognized by the Geneva Convention. Actually, if Talies are a “military”, they are out of uniform and should/could be hung.
I think these guys should be tried by other Marines who have been in combat. In that case they’d get a medal.
I just wrote my Congressman and Senators to go to bat for these guys. What they did wasn’t right and letting someone take a pic of it was stupid.
However:
This is not some kind of a war crime. These guys are young and will make mistakes. For what we ask of them, they should be allowed to make a few mistakes.

whether the Taliban had any standing to lecture Americans on what’s despicable considering their “terrible record of brutal behavior including beheadings.”

Perry is the least phony of all the candidates and Romney’s jumping on him the minute he came into the race last September was pretty low. Perry has a record as Governor that anyone of them wishes they could boast of.
