“People who are poor are not suffering from any kind of a (poor) work ethic. I grew up pretty poor. But I got up at 4 o clock in the morning to deliver milk from a milk truck before going to school at 8:30.
I don’t need Newt Gingrich what it is to have a work ethic.
What he is talking about stratifying people. He is saying that the poor children in their schools ought to be the janitors in their schools. So that other people in the schools who are not so poor can see them as their servers. That is what we get from what he is saying. And to talk about what his daughter may have done. His daughter was never a janitor in the school she attended. That to me is a double standard. I understand what he is saying and most African Americans understand what he is saying. And we are not going to stand for it.”

Since the 1960s, there hasn’t been one program aimed at helping the black community that has worked.
EVERY Civil Rights law passed, every special program, every concessions made to them has failed.
Perhaps it’s time we stopped blaming the programs and laws, and start to realize that some people are just better off being servers.

Clyburn, your kids were never in work study programs in college either. Guess what, there are far more whites doing work study than blacks in colleges! Blacks are far more likely to get their tuition paid for than whites through scholarships, so they wouldn’t have to worry about work study in the first place. Furthermore, for those blacks who do utilize work study, how many had similar grades and test scores as their white/Asian colleagues? Small price to pay for (undeservedly) having a whole host of doors opened to you after graduating.
If they want a black leader forever………..they have have to relocate to the “Dark Continent”……..

I am a white protestant. In my junior high school about 30 years ago, students were offered jobs working in the cafeteria as servers and clearing tables; also jobs straightening classrooms and emptying trash after school for one hour. We were paid a small amount for doing these jobs and they were sought after by many students. These were not considered demeaning jobs by the students. I was lucky enough to get a cafeteria job for a whole semester. Then it was offered to other students. Nobody ever complained as far as I know.

If I understand your story correctly, you got off your butt and WORKED. Your family was poor, but you put forth the effort, bettered yourself, and are now a member of the US House of Representatives. This is pretty good evidence that getting an education and then getting a job (and thus getting off the dole) is “do-able” for most blacks. Despite all your wailing and carrying-on, you KNOW that “raaacism” didn’t hold YOU back, nor has it hindered all the other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and the NAACP, and the dozens of other race-agitator organizations. The only thing the charge of “raaacism” does is reinforce in the minds of “your people” that it’s impossible for them to provide for themselves, so they need to keep electing grievance-mongers like you to make the government “take care” of them. You, sir, are doing a great disservice to your constituents and to the nation. *YOU* are helping keep “your people” enslaved. You should be ashamed of yourself.
