BREAKING: Rick Perry To Drop Out Today, Endorse Gingrich…

(Politico) — Rick Perry is expected to drop out later this morning at an 11 a.m. press conference and endorse Newt Gingrich, two sources confirmed to POLITICO.

The news was first reported by CNN.

It gives the surging Gingrich a huge boost heading into the final debate tonight, and the South Carolina primary on Saturday, in which he’s already closing in on Mitt Romney.

I can’t help but feel that we conservatives will be out of power for 12 years at least if Romney gets elected.

    Hopefully this helps Gingrich.

It really is too bad. I had high hopes for Perry when he threw his hat in the ring, but the immigration thing made me reevaluate. Glad he is going to endorse Newt. Perry is way smarter than the GOP is; he knows what Romney is. A LOSER. It is my firm belief that he will lose to Obama. NEWT 2012. That is, if he can survive the ABC debacle, which I believe he WILL.

Fantastic… the anti-Romney coalition is growing.

MSNBC will have a community breakdown.

Wondered about this-Gingrich wrote the foreword to Perry’s book, so there is some sort of friendship there. When Perry got in(speculation here on my part), most everyone thought that Newt would never gain the traction to move beyond being a 3rd tier candidate, Perry was the anointed “AntiMittens”. Then promptly screwed it up.
If Perry’s endorsement/support/help helps Newt take Mittens out, I guess my 500 bucks was worth it.

ABO and ABR! Sorry to see you go Rick; I was on board for you and then you opened your mouth about immigration. You had all the right moves except for that and I could even look past your weak performance at the beginning. I still think you brought some good things to the table and you have shown yourself to be a gentleman and Patriot with this action.

I guess there’s only one candidate left for me – Santorum – the winner of the IA caucuses. I don’t like Newt’s college Environmental Studies background and Global Warming crap.

I liked the part-time legislator concept, his pro second amendment, his views on foriegn aid (start with zero),being a military veteran, texas job creation skills!

I too hated his imagration policy, his support of the NAFTA highway (allowing mexican trucks through Texas to Canada), and his debating skills sucked!

Personally, it’s a “hold my nose and vote” AGAIN! God, this is getting old! McLame all over again! Rommey is NO conservative!!

I liked 80% of what Perry said and did. If that percentage was good enough by President Reagan, it’s good enough for me.

FACEPALM Perry drops out and endorses the one man in the race who couldn’t possibly beat Obama. Even Ron Paul has a better chance than Newt.

I like Gov Perry. He’s a stand up smart man. I’m glad he chose to do this now and not split the conservative vote. I like Santorum as well but I do think he needs to do the same.

All right everybody, great dry run. Special thanks to the understudies and body doubles for helping with the lighting and blocking. Now we’re going to start the Republican primaries for real. Jindal! Ryan! Christie! Daniels! Put down the cards and get up here. Rehearsal’s over!

Don’t be fooled into thinking Newt would not beat Obama. The LSM and the Washington elites of both parties want Mittens so they can destroy him after the primaries with all the poop they’re sitting on now. They have all made a deal with the devil for either Boob or Hillary.

  23. ccoffer says:

Anyone but Brakabama. Romney is winning because he’s the best candidate. Why so many lemmings want to pick up these stupid-ass anti-Romney talking points and run with them is beyond me. He has a better record than any other candidate. He’s become more conservative over the years (which doomed his political chances in Massachusetts) and dumbass lemmings call him a “flip-flapper” or some retarded such.

It’s amazing how stupid some people on the so called right can be. It isn’t principle either. It’s sheer stupidity.

  24. Jimmy Page says:
    January 19, 2012 at 10:55 am

Too bad. He had a record as governor that all the other pygmies on the stage could only dream about owning. Herman Cain? Michele Bachmann? Rick Santorum? As soon as he announced they all jumped on him (orchestrated by the Bush Mafia and the RNC leadership) with Bachmann being the Romney appointed attack dog. Good luck with Romney and Gingrich as the best we have to offer. One more thing – Perry seemed to really understand foreign policy and knew that the Taliban were not running Libya.

  25. Brookie says:

Do your homework, friends…Newt is a good debater. Sure is. He is also a **progressive. Ummm…a progressive. !! Doesn’t anyone have a problem with that? I have a problem with that. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON THIS ONE BEFORE YOU GIVE HIM SUPPORT.

Jimmy Page, agree 1000%! & what was that stat at the last debate of Texas being the 13th largest economy in the WORLD? I have stated here W. Texas looks like PRE NAFTA……..& this election should have been about OUR economy & AMERICAN JOBS PERIOD…….Perry could have mopped the floor with his record vs the won’s any day, any debate…………………….I am an Independent in search of a FISCAL CONSERVATIVE & JOB CREATOR………

the RINO’s behind the scenes are stampeding a hollow suit into the Republican nomination. he’ll lose to King Barry I. then King Barry I will finish destroying this country while he and the first wookie live like African royalty on our nickel.

Whether you supported him or not he was one of the worst candidates in action I’ve ever seen. How did he ever win in Texas?

  32. Ollie in Oregon says:

I’m sorry to see Perry go — he was my guy, but can’t say I’m surprised at this point. I was more surprised he “came back” after Iowa to compete in SC. I never got that one…

Anyway, we’re left with Gingrich, Romney, and Santorum. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz.

My default candidate in 2008 was Romney, I suppose I find myself right back there again four years later.

My mood is as gray and soggy as the constant heavy rain outside my office window that is inundating NW Oregon right now…

  33. Ollie in Oregon says:
    January 19, 2012 at 2:12 pm

    @ BillT

Having lived in Texas under the excellent governership of Rick Perry, I can tell you the hardcore folksy laid-back “aw shucks” schtick plays well there, but does not translate well nationally.

Perry is actually a brilliant guy (read his book “Fed Up!”) who has a very good record as a governer. Yes, there was the Guardacil thing that was an obvious fumble, and yes there is the in-state tuition for illegals issue that he never adequately explained (Federal funding factors into it), but for the most part, Perry has been a true conservative and bonafide ass-kicker from the start.

There’s just too much Texas in him for the rest of America…

  34. The Original says:
    January 19, 2012 at 2:46 pm

Get a grip some of you. This really does not change much at all. I wanted Perry as President before he entered. I am so sorry that we are not going to have him in the White House. But . . .

Some of you really need to just take a deep breath. Listen to what the remaining candidates say. From what I hear . . . they all want to bring our domestic energy production to take us out of the grasp of the middle east . . . they all (except Ron Paul who I just don’t consider viable since he is a loon of the first degree) support Israel . . . they all want a strong defense for our country (except Paul) . . . they all support our military (except Paul) . . . they all want our government to stay out of the job creation business and be what they are supposed to be.

And to the person who says that Paul is the only person left to who can beat Obama . . . oh, my. You really need to check out what legitimate polls are saying. The guy needs to follow Gov. Perry and head back to Texas.

  35. Mindy Lou says:
    January 19, 2012 at 3:46 pm

Glad to have him back. Maybe now we really will suceed and you guys can have at it…

We’ll do just fine here in Texas.

HE WAS THE MOST CONSERVATIVE! Republicans let their best chance down. I can’t say much against him. What a sad day.

Well I hope Gingrich wins then. Anybody but Romney. Do Republicans really think ROMNEYCARE would repeal Obamacare when becoming president? He has a huge record of liberalism, from socially liberal to fiscally liberal. Basically, he is Obama but white.

I wish the best for Perry, what a shame he had to drop out.

  37. Komrade says:

    Fully agree!!!

  38. Katherine says:

I am sad about this. I really liked him and hoped he would be the nominee. I plugged him for all I was worth until the second debate. And then, alas, I had to admit to myself that he would not be the chosen one.

It’s odd, he makes great speeches, but seems incapable of speaking extempore.

  39. Pat says:

God bless you, Perry. I would follow you to the ends of the Earth. Thanks for supporting Newt. All the best to you and thanks for your work.
