Iowa Caucuses Ballot Count Shows Santorum Finished 34 Votes Ahead of Romney, Votes From 8 Precincts Missing…

Game changer?
Comments & pings are closed.(WaPo) — Republican front-runner Mitt Romney’s narrow lead in the Iowa caucuses disappeared when officials certified the vote count, a Republican involved in the process said Thursday, but former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum cannot be declared the winner because of irregularities in some precincts.
Instead of leading by eight votes, Romney ended up trailing former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum by 34 votes–29,839 to 29,805, the Republican said. The reversal was first reported by the Des Moines Register, which said results from eight Iowa precincts are missing “and will never be recovered and certified.”
The certified vote totals from Jan. 3 caucuses will be formally released by the Iowa Republican Party Thursday morning at 8:15 Central time (9:15 in Washington). They will be available for inspection by representatives of the candidates at 9 a.m., Iowa GOP officials said in a statement, and by reporters two hours after that.
More than 122,000 votes were cast during caucuses in 1,774 precincts, meaning that the margin of victory — regardless of who won — was only a fraction of a percent.
Romney, whose campaign was buoyed when he was declared the winner of the Iowa caucuses and then the New Hampshire primary a week later, issued a statement Thursday morning declaring the contest “a virtual tie.”

Why is Iowa first again? The powers that be need to revamp the primary process. Total joke.
NOW it’s a virtual tie.
The Media seems to love Mitt for some reason. May be they think he cant beat Barry so that is why their focus is on Mitt.
This is just a small scale error, just wait until the general election.
How in this day and age can 8 Precincts have “missing” documentation?
When we say that we believe the primaries have been fixed in favor of Romney, we are told that we are “conspiracy theorists” with no basis for our charges.
This is blatant fraud on the part of the RNC. Those “missing” votes probably put Santorum way ahead of Romney.
And, if Iowa can’t get it’s vote right, what confidence should we have in any other close race?
Just getting us ready for 2012!
Dead men and women voting, mutiple voting (especialy in chi-town), “lost” military votes cast, votes “found” in trunk of car etc.!!!!!

@Rufus, probably
I don’t care about the ex-wifey thing, WHATEVER it is, since I don’t know anything about obongo’s ex ‘dates’ or if he even EVER had a date
this points up the fact that newt is a meglomaniac since he lectured santorum along with perry to drop out because HE is the only one who can win a national campaign
the precinct records might have been so messed up with uncertified ‘voters’
but my money is on the old al franken vote counting method
“Game changer?”
Not really. Romney has the organization plus money and Gingrich has the debate chops.
That’s what it has come down to.
So now we have a statist candidate who we are all supposed to all jump in line behind, because he won New Hampshire.
@ NoBlahBlah…
“newt is a meglomaniac” you say.
Name one politician who wants to be President who has a “normal” psychiatric profile.
For a man or woman to rise to the Presidency, there HAS to be something wrong with them.
the strategy here is to pit the 99% against the 1%
bammy will position himself as champion of the 99%
mitt will be portrayed as the evil greedy 1%
hence the reason the MSFM loves mitt-
they’re just setting him up for the fall……
they all have big egos TRUE
however, please explain with the vote tally to date why Santorum should drop out in favor of newt?
If newt was licking at the heels of romneycare, you could make a case I would acknowledge, but with the current situation, I would say he is just trashing santorum, personally, I find that in ‘Bad Form’
I don’t see with your clarity if you are agreeing with newt’s assessment of the voters

Today’s Date:

Santorum says: >The Declaration of Independence is the WHY. The Constitution is the HOW.< He is correct. He is a Conservative, but he is not perfect, and he doesn't have flash.
But, he would probably be a better President than any of the other present contenders in the Republican primary process, if he can get elected. I would vote for him.
So help me out here, I am trying to see the wisdom in all this. : Two weeks ago, in Iowa, Romney was declared the winner by 8 VOTES. He’s spiked the ball and has been doing his victory dance all the while as there is some dispute about miscounted votes.
This morning, the results are in: Santorum actually won by 34 VOTES, so the GOP declared it a virtual tie?
Santorum just got the dirty end of the stick.
A sign of things to come !
The media and its king Obama will approach it this way.
If its Romney it will be all about him being in the 1% and how Obamy isn’t.
If it’s Newt it will be all about past personal life.
I’m thinking at this point having a bad personal life to independents and some democrats won’t be as bad as thinking a guy is a 1% er.
Bill Clinton is loved by democrats and liberals and look at his past indiscretions.
A lot has to do about the hack job ABC is about to release on Newt. Fox needs to step it up on Obama and stop this fair and balanced pretending they are doing. Let’s demand his academic records and lets find out about his past jobs as a lawyer. I want to see his papers from the Harvard Law Review. etc.
@ Duckhead,
Dirty end of the stick indeed! He’ll never be able to gain the momentum that should have been his.
Mitt was chosen from Day One and we have been “lectured” ever since about how he has it in the bag and is the only one who can win against Obama. That’s a pretty big machine to overcome, but I’d love to see it happen.
romney has abc, cbs, cnn, nbc, and the rnc on his side. obama is hoping for him too.
Missing votes from EIGHT precincts? Will NEVER be recovered and certified?
What the hell are they doing, taking pointers from the dem machine in Minnesota?
If Santorum can’t be declared winner, then neither can Romney in either case, but the fact of the matter is that 75% of the voters did not want Romney. I’d be interested to see what percentage Romney would have gotten with only one or two other candidates on the ballot – his percentage may not have risen much at all.
I still fail to see why Iowa is so important – very small voter base and an open primary to boot.
Iowa is a goat rodeo on a good day and this year it wasn’t a good day. A waste of resources for nothing – let them have a primary with all the trimmings if they want to be first, but this “Friday Night Poker Game” approach to politics has gotta stop.
I KNEW Santorum got screwed over! Gee, you think maybe those “missing votes in 8 precincts” are an excuse by the repubican establishment in Iowa not to give Rick his just victory? I do… I didn’t hear a damn thing about these 8 precincts until last night.
