Newt Gingrich won the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina on Saturday, with Mitt Romney behind in second, television networks projected.
Fox News and NBC projected Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, as the winner but CNN had not yet called the election.
Gingrich’s victory means that three different candidates have won the first three contests in the state-by-state battle for the Republican presidential nomination to face Democratic President Barack Obama on November 6. Rick Santorum won the Iowa caucuses on January 3 and Romney won the New Hampshire primary on January 10.

Aside from the obvious absurdity of the suggestion (genocide), shouldn’t it be government that MUST justify it’s existence? If government regulation is a compromise of our freedoms (the unworkable ‘anarchy’ represents 100% freedom), then shouldn’t we make sure that those compromises are necessary?
The way understand it, our Republic is the minimum level of government involvement necessary to ensure our “Safety and Happiness”.

Nothing wrong with that. I think in a way this is sort of a referendum on that idea. South Carolina is in effect saying, no, this is not over. The media and the GOP elite is not going to pick our candidate for us again. We’ll see what we see. April is a long way away, so is June.

Actually, I have voted for republicans, but only in the general, I voted for Reagan, Palin/Mccain. however I live in a state that is not open to primaries, meaning only party members can vote in that party’s primary, so I could only vote in the dem primaries. so, yes, this year I will be reregistering from independent to republican to vote in my very first republican primary, and then switching back to independent.
I think I’ll make a copy of my new republican registration and mail it to the DNC.
(btw, many dems are now ex-dems, most dems are not that liberal, they are moderates, conservatives, much of hillary’s support was from blue-collor, reagan dems like me.)

In the end, I want a candidate who will fight for me against Obama and his regime. I can’t see Romney doing that. This is going to be the nastiest election in my lifetime. Mitt can be passive-aggressive nasty, such as with the cake, but ultimately, in front on the watching nation, he still wants to be liked. Passive-aggressive won’t cut it against Obama. Also, I sincerely doubt he really comprehends the shitstorm of anti-Mormon stuff that will be unleashed against him the second he locks up the nomination. Not saying he can’t beat Obama, but it will be harder for him because he wants to be seen as a nice guy.
Newt, on the other hand, doesn’t give a crap. Like Rhett Butler, his reputation is already bad, and he has seen how liberating that can be. When the Obama campaign calls him a racist, Newt will snort derisively, point out the real racism on his opponent’s side, and move things along to the next topic. He won’t waste time going defensive, his attitude alone will reflect the ridiculous nature of the charge. When he is slammed on marital fidelity, he will point out the economy, jobless rate, growing number of Americans on food stamps, and ask which affects voters’ lives more, his personal life or Obama’s governing record.

I just want someone who will stand up for ME as an American and say, “Look, MSM, debate moderators and pundits, Americans are hurting. Yes, there are a lot of Snow Birds in Florida, but Florida usually goes Red because many of those Snow Birds are only here in the winter and they retain their voting rights in their home states. Additionally, the Hispanic vote is mainly Cuban, who are usually Republicans.
We did elect Rick Scott as governor who has done a pretty good job, if the courts would stay out of our legislative decisions, I’d say he’s done an excellent job. The only failure the Tea Parties have had, is in North Florida where in-fighting between Republicans let a Leftist slip through and win.
Which is a perfect example of what we need to avoid in the presidential election and some of the primaries. The Left is voting in those states with open primaries and if you add their votes to the Ronulans they are doing their damnedest to chose our weakest candidate.

I supported Bill Clinton, and this one statement will win over so many conservative/moderate dems to Newt, or any republican who openly says this.

I hope you’re right. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and am now in Georgia-spent much time in Florida panhandle. Georgia courts have requested Obama to appear to confirm his eligibility of citizenship. My past experiences with Florida politics have shown them to be less abrasive and more into the lets-all-get-along type. Sorry, no offense intended.

No candidate is going to be everything to everyone. No single candidate can support both sides of every argument. To claim as such would make that candidate a liar. (or a Democrat)
We don’t have to personally like the person we elect. If he does his job properly, and he takes government out of our lives, there will be very little of his influence that we have to tolerate. That’s the point we should focus on. The question we ask ourselves is not “which candidate would we rather have running our lives for us?”. Our choice IS “do we want government to run our lives for us?”
Don’t vote for a candidate. Vote for a principle and avoid the disappointment.
Don’t let anyone “protect” you, and don’t let anyone hold your wallet for you. Assume your own responsibility and you’ll be much happier, and much better off.

I meant to tell you earlier, but I got sidetracked. The GAO did do a one time audit on the Federal Reserve. Through Frank-Dodd, of all things because guess who put in an amendment to Frank-Dodd? You’ll never guess, not in a million years, and directed the GAO to preform a one-time audit. The audit consisted of the period from December 1, 2007 to July 21, 2010.
And drum roll please on who put in the amendment…None other than self-avowed Socialist Bernie Sanders…

No offense taken at all. I am a native Floridian and I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it appears that between the transients (which are much fewer now due to the scarcity of job opportunities), the retirees, who are usually from the North and liberal, the illegal immigrants, who come in droves to Florida as migrant workers and of course, the black Americans (which are here in very high numbers), we seem to be almost overwhelmed by Democrats and their special interest groups.
However, it is not all as it appears. One out of three in my Tea Party group is from the North. Former Democrats who were appalled at what had become of their former political party. About 20% are Hispanic and about 15% are black, I hate to break it down that way (I sound like a Leftist), but my group is very small and using these numbers to extrapolate a larger picture, gives me great hope for Florida.
What stations are conservative to have a debate? All the media outlets are leftists.
Newt needs to steer clear of polarizing figures like Palin or Santorum in his choice of VP. He needs to go with Bolton or West. We need alpha-male ticket to the hilt.
It was funny watching CNN last night.
