Gallup: Gingrich Now Beating Romney Nationally…

Gingrich couldn’t have picked a better time to surge.

(The Hill) — Newt Gingrich leads Mitt Romney nationally for the first time in a month, according to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll.

Gingrich took 31 percent, followed by Romney at 27 percent, and Ron Paul and Rick Santorum at 12 percent each.

After a surprising and brief surge in December, Gingrich took the lead for the first time, capping out at 37 percent before a swift descent led to Romney regaining the lead in late December.

That began a sharp rise for Romney in which he also capped out at 37 percent only one week ago.

The funny part is that i now have more respect for Romney.

Instead of trying to wait out the other candidates, (as i suspect was his plan all along) he now has to fight for the position.

Really wish Santorum was doing better – even though I am still undecided on who will get my vote by the time the primary comes to New Jersey.

    Yeah, me too.

But he blew it last night. Except that I bought two more insurance policies this morning.

Mitt must be praying Santorum won’t drop out of the race!

I think Newt will wrap this up if he delivers a knock out blow at Thursday’s debate. He seemed not to want to go on the offensive last night, which was a bit odd.

It doesn’t matter whether the audience is allowed to participate. People watching at home are paying close attention to what those candidates have to say.

I’m convinced that if Newt brings up the fact that the media won’t go after any of Obama’s records (after all that’s been released on the Republican side), he will leave Romney in the dust. And we all know Romney won’t fight. Oh yeah, he will trash fellow Republicans mercilessly. But he doesn’t get that we want him to go after the usurper in chief, the one he’s always careful to call “the President.”

I’m so sick of this by the way. They are all so scared of being called “racist.” Everybody’s always walking on eggshells when talking about that fraud…

People never had any problems calling President Reagan, “Reagan”; President Clinto, “Clinton”; and President Bush, “Bush.”

But all those morons on talk radio (except for Rush and Levin) and Fox News (and of course Romney) always refer to the fraud in chief as “the President.”

Romney has been running for President for 5 years now.
He can’t get over 30% of any Republican vote.

The Democrats want him more than Republicans do.

No reporter asks Mitt why he wants to be president! His family, wealth and money making have been claimed by some as signs of Conservatism.
Would then Sen . Teddy (of Chappaquiddic fame) Kennedy not have been the epitome of conservatism? Teddy could not answer why he wanted to be president either.

RINO bloggers and pundits support Mitt with almost Paulbot fanaticism —
see what happened to Ann Coulter of late? Annn seems not be be the same Ann Coulter who wrote Treason.

“Rinse” and the GOP “elites” have again picked a flop, but they will persist
until we get a second B. Hussein term and then those still in the congress can all go home, they won’t be in the new regime anymore. GOP has been second class citizens in the gov’t so often, they asssume it is their God-gioven role
to remain servants of the DNC and all their associated subversive groups.

Boehner, McConnell and many must go — they accomplished virtually nothing in 2011 and prospects for 2012 loook like more spineless inertia on their part!

  21. Defender of the West says:

I know some of you won’t agree with this, but Romney is a MUCH better candidate than Gingrich for beating Obama. Almost everybody who has worked with Newt said his leadership was chaotic and irresponsible. His character has proven flawed with his ethics violations and his repeat infidelity, and he is just a pompous ass with an inflated view of himself and his importance in history.

Romney is less charismatic but he has shown the ability to lead over his career, has little personal baggage (other than being wealthy and Mormon) and is steadier so the lib media won’t have as many gaffes as Newt. Both have been pretty inconsistent conservatives over the years, but if we have to pick one, its Romney for me.

  22. Hickster says:

Clearly, my opinion on this won’t sit well with some here; however, I have to say my piece. After listening to some of the debate, I was put off with Newt. To me he came across as too busy defending himself. While Mitt just kept, a more or less, steady rate neither here or there.

Considering I didn’t hear much out of him, I would come away sticking with Santorum.

Time will tell. Also, have recently heard that Hellary & Bile are leaning toward support of Newt. Not sure what to make of that.

Did anyone listen to Mitt’s answer to the Conservative question at the end of the debate?

Who has Mitt attacked so far the most? Obama, or the rest of the GOP field?

Mitt says Obama is in over his head, and Newt says he is an Alinsky socialist.

Have you seen the ad the Obama Regime is running against Mitt? How do you think he is going to fight for the presidency? He is being coached and advised by the Establishment, and they have told Republicans NOT to criticize Obama because they are afraid of the race card being played!

Newt is a Progressive, and not a Conservative. He is irrational, he will be a chaotic leader, and he scares the hell out of me. However, he has at different times acted Conservative, and Mitt has not even danced with Conservatism. For the love of Pete, listen to what he said last night about Conservatism! Newt can explain Conservatism, and why we have to fight for America better than anyone on the stage. Whether he believes it or not, he can give a visual for why Conservatism works.

I would feel a lot better about Rick Santorum. He does not have the baggage either of the other two has, but he cannot energize the voters like Newt. Santorum is a good man, and I believe would stand strong when TSHTF. It just does not seem like he can put it together enough to convince folks that all in all, he would be better than Mitt, or Newt.

In the end, it does not matter who wins this. The country is at stake, and another 4 years of Obama means the end of America, the end of our freedoms, and the end of even having a chance, slight as it might be, but the end of a chance to restore the country. We have to look at this as a now or never vote, and get over the fact that the best person to run against Evil, he is not available.

  28. Hickster says:
    January 24, 2012 at 8:11 pm

@freeus: Thanks for sharing your convictions, and facts on the issues.

About Santorum. See that’s the burr that is troubling. Mitt & Newt had the monopoly on the debate. Once in a bit, there was RP. I don’t know when Santorum was given chances to prove his standing. I was frustrated with the moderators.

Yes. Newt does have the “energize” ability. I still think, verbally & intelligence-wise, he’d blast Obama to the wall. However, as an overall steadiness of being, that brings me back to the Santorum equation. (Perhaps a Santorum-West?)

  29. Defender of the West says:
    January 24, 2012 at 8:26 pm

    Andrew,

Newt was not cleared of every single violation. He was found guilty on one and was stripped of his leadership. Most of those who worked with him say they would be scared of what a Newt presidency would do to the party and country. He doesn’t create much confidence or friends in those he works with which says a lot. I’m not a big Romney guy but I think he’s the best we got, which is really sad.

  30. Defender of the West says:
    January 24, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Actually, Santorum is the best out of the remaining but I don’t really think he has a shot.
