A little O/T, but…
A while back there was a reality show, 30 Days, that in one episode put a displaced technology worker in a call-center job in India for, you guessed it, 30 days. He lived with a local Indian family that had several members who also worked in call centers. Sitting on their patio one day, he asked why they thought these jobs were coming to India in the first place. The whole family was convinced that the jobs came due to the Indian peoples’ high intelligence, strong work ethic and high productivity. They were destroyed when they learned that the real reason was that they worked for 1/4 of the wages paid to US workers, even though these jobs allowed them a much higher standard of living than 90% of their countrymen. Then to add insult to injury, they learned that call center jobs were “low-end” jobs for dummies (I’m paraphrasing).
