Happy Birthday Danny Dietz, RIP…

Yesterday was Navy SEAL Danny Dietz’s 32nd birthday, he willingly sacrificed his life for our Country.

Please take a moment to stop by the Danny Dietz Memorial Page and leave a message so his family knows that Danny will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Dietz was part of an elite team of four SEALs on a reconnaissance mission “tasked with finding a key Taliban leader in mountainous terrain near Asadabad, Afghanistan,” according to a Navy news release.

On June 28, 2005, SEAL Team 10 was assigned to kill or capture a high ranking Taliban leader in the Hindu-Kush mountains. The SEAL team was made up of Michael P. Murphy, Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz and Matthew Axelson. Luttrell and Axelson were the team’s snipers while Dietz and Murphy were the spotters.

“They were spotted by anti-coalition sympathizers, who immediately reported their position to Taliban fighters. A fierce gun-battle ensued between the four SEALs and a much larger enemy force with superior tactical position,” the Navy release said. The SEALs radioed for help, and a responding Chinook helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade, killing eight more SEALs and eight Army NightStalkers. It was the worst single combat loss for the SEALs in SEAL history.

    Can’t leave a facebook message. I don’t have a facebook ID. Sorry Zip.

    I will say here that my thanks go to Danny. He was a true example of selflessness and courage. And it is because of men like him that our freedom is so precious, for it continues to be bought with men’s lives.

    I don’t Facebook either so I’ll have to pay my tribute here: As both a gay man and the son of a retired career Navy Commander and brother of a retired career Marine, I feel a particular responsibility to pay respect to those who sacrifice every day and ultimately so that we may live the lives of absolute FREEDOM that we lead and certainly would not be able to elsewhere in the world. God bless Danny Dietz and his family; God bless the Armed Forces; God bless the United States of America – we sure need it right now! (and God, if You’re listening, please get that asshole out of the White House!)

    God bless his soul and his family, it’s a great honnor to die defending America . He was an american soldier.

    I’m just trying to be a father,
    Raise a daughter and a son,
    Be a lover to their mother,
    Everything to everyone.
    Up and at ‘em bright and early,
    I’m all business in my suit,
    Yeah, I’m dressed up for success from my head down to my boots,
    I don’t do it for the money, there’s bills that I can’t pay,
    I don’t do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,
    Providing for our futures, my responsibility,
    Yeah I’m real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
    And I can’t call in sick on Mondays when the weekend’s been too strong,
    I just work straight through the holidays,
    And sometimes all night long.
    You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
    Hey, I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey I’m true down to the core,
    And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
    I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice,
    Oh, and I don’t want to die for you,
    But if dying’s asked of me,
    I’ll bear that cross with an honor,
    ‘Cause freedom don’t come free.
    I’m an American Soldier, an American,
    Beside my Brothers and my Sisters I will proudly take a stand.
    When liberty’s in jeopardy I’ll always do what’s right.
    I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight.
    American Soldier,
    I’m an American Soldier.

    Yeah, an American Soldier,
    An American.
    Beside my Brothers and my Sisters I will proudly take a stand,
    When liberty’s in jeopardy I’ll always do what’s right,
    I’m out here on the front lines, so sleep in peace tonight.

    American Soldier,
    I’m an American,
    American,
    American Soldier.

    I am the swift uplifting rush

    Done, and gratefully done.

    I was a soldier. I don’t believe it’s an honor to die for your country. I believe it’s an honor to fight for your country.

    I believe that, even though I don’t know that man, I’ll grieve for him because he who sheds blood with me is my brother, he who sheds blood FOR me, is my son.

    I hope that his family will find some small comfort in my thanks, but ultimately, words without actions mean little.

    In the realm of today, finally scrolling along. This hit me terribly. To have earlier read about Biden claiming the “backbone” of this potus. Then to see this?

    How does one possibly compare this Danny fellow with this lame Potus? They are miles upon miles different. Hey, Biden? Look at this young man and see a pure example of backbone.

    Perhaps I am not clear on this portion of Bible prophecy, but it would seem likely one such as this Dietz fellow to be a part of the great army lead by Christ at the time of Armageddon?

    ==========================================

    12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

    God bless and keep the SEALs and NightStalkers in that mission, who gave their lives in service of our country, and their families.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    The August 6, 2011, shootdown of the Chinook carrying 38 military personnel, including 15 members of DEVGRU Gold Squadron and 2 SEALS from another unit, seems to be the worst single combat loss for the SEALs in SEAL history. This does not detract one iota from the valor of our heroes we now remember.

  22. DanlBoone says:

    Hi Hickster,
    it’s definitely consistent to a type and the shadow of those prophecies [from a futurist perspective] because the players are consistent to the Euphrates referent.

    And, these prophecies have become particularly interesting since 1948 -and the inauguration of the sovereign nation state of Israel. At least for us on this side of the -futurist vs preterist- argument.

    Preterists see Israel’s promises as fulfilled in the church.. the literal nation state of Israel is a metaphor to them.. not the literal representation of the Bible’s Israel..

    if you take a look at Joel’s prophecy [blood red moon, et so on] which Peter referenced in Acts 2 [infilling of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost] you’ll see that prophecy again in the revelator’s book at ch6 (Rev 6)..

    this is the context of these prophecies [the church, as differentiated from the gathering of Jews -only- at Pentecost] is not in view.. in Joel, Jerusalem (Pentecost), nor at the time corresponding “Time of Jacob’s Sorrow” [the trib] in the revelation of Christ at ch 6.

    prior to Paul, Christians were still proselytizing to Israel [male circumcision, laverings etc]..

    this is extraordinarily exquisite stuff.. I’ll wait to see if I’m speaking clearly before I say anything else..

    bless you & yours Hickster

    I have problems with this. It purely comes from fear. On two different levels. 1) I worry a lot about the families, families like Danny’s who have sacrificed so much to raise such a patriotic son, and a family who might, at times, feel they have been forgotten. There are many families out there just like Danny’s family, and as Americans, we cannot, we must not forget them. I fear with all the politics, and all the troubles Americans are facing, I fear we could become more consumed with our daily troubles, and I fear we forget their pain, their losses, and as parents, that aching hole in their hearts for the loss of their child. 2) Our two, our only two, are in the AFRTOC, and fully intend on furthering their careers in the military. I fear one day being just like Danny’s parents, and I become rather selfish, and wonder if it was such a good idea all those years to let them watch John Wayne movies, take them to the D-Day Museum for their 13th birthday, (per their request), to see the U.S.S. Alabama, the Pensacola Air Museum, the Museum in Macon, GA, and to have all those books on the military. LOL! I have to admit, it is real easy to think let someone else’s kid go do that job of defending America, and to wish away their desire to serve. To be honest, we are terrified of being like Danny’s family. And then we feel terribly guilty.

    It is one thing to raise your kids to be patriotic, and another to actually encourage them to live out such a concept out. Thank God for the families who have done this since the founding of this country! Where would we be today without families like Danny’s? All the families from that disastrous day in 2005, they all need our prayers, and we need to make sure we do not forget them. To forget them, to forget the NightStalkers’ families, well that would be must un-American, and in the days going forward, with all the chaos, and turmoil so many American families are experiencing these days, may we never forget all those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, who will never come home, or who have come home injured both physically and mentally. If we forget them, or do not literally do something to contribute to their care, or to show our appreciation, we as a nation will cease to be good, and we all know full well where that lands us as a country.

  25. DanlBoone says:
    January 27, 2012 at 3:59 pm

    Hickster,
    I don’t presume to tell someone how to systematize their own theological studies.. but if a person allows the locus of bible prophecy to remain with Israel, from where it arises, and to whom it is directly addressed [like a letter]..

    and Grace, as revealed only through Paul, that is without the Law [Peter stumbled and struggled with Cornelius., "it is not 'lawful' for me to speak w you [sic] but..”

    Grace for the church [the mystery of salvation aside from the Law of Moses]–

    see what I mean? The Word divides beautifully along these lines:

    Prophecy for Israel ___&___ Grace for the Church

    and yet, we are grafted in…
    maranatha!

  26. Hickster says:
    January 27, 2012 at 5:23 pm

    Hi DanlBoone: I sense you are of kindred brother spirit. Yet, it is clear to me your wits have several more gears available than mine, plus travel with far more RPM’s available! You come across as a person that could lead an interesting Bible Study. So, in the meanwhile, I went in search of more info! I do, generally, see what you mean. Are you, previously, referring to how some think of amillenial, post millenial, pre-trib, all that? Preterists, etc I don’t know much about.

    Your comment on “this is extraordinarily exquisite stuff”. I agree! It is!

    Having several questions rolling about in thought now. Your reference of Joel? that being Joel 2:28-32? Is that what you were thinking of? Then I looked further (depending upon how one looks at prophecy) to Rev. 19:14-15
    =====================================================
    Revelation 19:14
    The armies which were in heaven—Angels and saints over whom Jesus Christ is Captain,
    Clothed in fine linen—All holy, pure, and righteous.
    Revelation 19:15
    Out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword—See on Revelation 1:16 (note). This appears to mean the word of the Gospel, by which his enemies are confounded, and his friends supported and comforted.
    With a rod of iron—He shall execute the severest judgment on the opposers of his truth.
    He treaded the winepress—As the grapes are trodden to express the juice, so his enemies shall be bruised and beaten, so that their life’s blood shall be poured out.
    —Adam Clarke’s Commentary

    =====================================================
    So how I read that, I come away thinking this gentleman, Danny Dietz, would be a part of that seen in verse. 14. I goofed up earlier w/Chapter 16.

    ======================================

    Apologies for wandering from the Central topic of Danny. Bless him, his loved ones and those gone before him and those that have followed.

    yeah Hickster,
    I wouldn’t try and lay the paradigm over in a literal sense, other than yeah, a biblical perspective fully allows me to see this man as having died fighting those armies [actual, forming, or typed in the shadow] of the prophecies we’re talking about.

    This man *is a Christian

    *present perfect infinitive..

    @Freeus you are right on about not forgetting the families of the fallen. You are right about ceasing to be a good nation. It’s our job as Americans to do our part of “serving” by supporting the military and their families. It is not easy being a military family. I have always wanted a one dollar tax on every household and that money go to the needs of our Warriors…efficiently w/out wasteful spending and corruption. Not enough people in this country care about them, the stories I could tell. I know people that still don’t know what an IED is amongst other things after 10 years of war. The media still calls Marines Soldiers, that one irritates me to no end. Get it right, on principal.

    With your children some are born w/it, being a Warrior is what they are meant to do. The best thing in the world to do is do your best to let go of the fear, give it to God and then support your children 100%. It’s not easy though. In my family we were told straight up that if he got killed and we pulled a Cindy Sheehan he would personally come back and haunt all of us for the rest of our days. We would never do that, but it was pretty funny that it had even crossed his mind. It was made clear that he was doing what he wanted to do and if he was KIA to be happy he died doing something he wanted to do. I know lots of military that feel this way, and many knew at a young age it was what they wanted to do.

    The thing w/Danny’s story as told in the book, the damn media played such a role in their decision making. Their training taught them one thing and the fear of political and media backlash made things go down like they did. If weren’t for the concern of the backlash the story most likely would have turned out completely different. Their fears were legitimate, look what Murtha did to our Marines, Allen West, Ilario Pantano, and many more. It makes me rage just thinking about these incidences. Pantano is running again, I send him a few bucks when I can. He is a good man and fortunately for him he has bounced back from his drama/trauma.

    Anyway, as tragic as Danny’s story is, he died doing something he loved and what he was meant to do. Not many people get to say that.

    @Hickster and Axel- Thanks. :)

    @Axel- They are having an absolute blast. They eat it up. My Dad was a Marine, and has harassed them a bit over being in the “Chair Force”. LOL! They are naturals so it would seem according to their feedback from their commanders. At first I kept saying, “Not now!”, but then I had to look back at history and wonder when was there ever a good time? We have always been facing some sort of bad stuff where someone was needed to put out a fire. Some public, some not so public. :) And ditto to money going to the needs of the families, and veterans. That is something which does not need to be cut, but rather reformed, and added to.
