Friday Afternoon News Dump: Holder Releases More Fast And Furious Emails…

WASHINGTON (AP) – Newly released Justice Department emails sent to Capitol Hill for a congressional inquiry into a gun-smuggling operation indicate that the head of the department’s criminal division suggested letting some illicit “straw” weapons buyers in the U.S. transport their guns across the border into Mexico where they could be arrested.
According to the emails turned over to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Friday night, the Justice official, Lanny Breuer, made the suggestion to Mexican officials because it “may send a strong message to arms traffickers.”
Mexico has stringent gun control laws with long prison terms as opposed to the U.S., where small-time “straw” buyers working for major arms traffickers seldom face jail time.
Breuer made the remarks in February 2011, around the time that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were telling congressional investigators that the ATF had allowed hundreds of illicitly purchased guns in the operation known as Fast and Furious flow into Mexico — a controversial tactic known as “gun-walking” aimed at following gun buyers to major traffickers.
The documents on Breuer were among 486 pages of material turned over to the House committee chaired by Republican Rep. Darrell Issa of California.

The Florida Tea Party Coalition With Newt endorsed the former House speaker on Thursday, saying they would “help defeat Massachusetts Moderate Mitt Romney and then President Barack Obama.”
52% of tea party goers support Newt according to the latest Rasmussen poll.
Newt is speaking at a tea party event later today.

When the story on F&F broke it was reporter that no one alerted the Mexican gov’t we were allowing guns into Mexico
C’mon Issa get some guts and get all the docs now and quit waiting for Holder to release anything. You just give him and his cohorts time to peruse and shred the ones you really need for the investigation. Shades of Hillary’s Rose Law firm records that nobody could find until it was too late. If I were a prosecutor in AZ I would present the Bauer case to a grand jury and request a murder indictment relating to Brian Terry and counts for every dead Mexican tied to one of Eric the Red’s walking armory with a number of unnamed co-conspirators and then wait for more email.
If Holder was white or Republican, I’d bet he would be sitting in a jail cell right now awaiting trial. Geez Louise, Scooter Libby did prison time for a mere pittance of what has happened in Fast and Furious.

Rep. Gosar Continues to Push “No Confidence” in Holder Resolution

Washington, DC –(Ammoland.com)- Attorney General Eric Holder — recently caught lying under oath concerning his knowledge of his department’s Fast and Furious program — may be moving a step closer to the inside of a jail cell.
On Thursday, February 2nd, Chairman Darrell Issa’s Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will hold another hearing on the disastrous Fast and Furious operation.
Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar, a member of that committee, is also pushing a resolution of “no confidence” in Holder’s management – or lack of management – of the Justice Department.
That resolution, H. Res. 490, provides a course of action for the momentum generated by that hearing.
H. Res. 490 finds that, as a result of “Holder’s failure to properly control, monitor, or establish Operation Fast and Furious, it is likely Mexican nationals were killed or wounded by weapons sold through this scheme” — and that the victims of Holder’s incompetence included U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
It goes on to resolve that the House has “lost confidence” in Holder, which is, basically, a call for him to resign.
Clearly, the Justice Department believes it can stonewall Issa’s inquiry and bull its way through questions concerning its criminal malfeasance. Adoption of the Gosar resolution would make it much, much more difficult to do so.
