Catholic Bishops Say They Will Refuse To Comply With Obamacare Birth Control Mandate…

Showdown.

(LifeNews) — At least three Catholic bishops have said they will not comply with the mandate the Obama administration put in place recently in Obamacare that will force religious employers to pay for birth control, contraception and drugs that may cause abortions in their health care plans.

The Obama Administration issued a statement re-iterating the “contraceptive mandate” requiring all insurance providers cover the full range of FDA-approved drugs and devices would remain intact. This mandate, originally proposed in August, includes drugs that work after conception to destroy life rather than prevent it. The statement included a postponement of one year for religious groups that do not already carry contraceptives and additionally would not be exempted under last year’s narrow definition of “religious employer.”

The mandate not only violates such existing conscience protections on abortion such as the Hyde/Weldon Amendment (in so far as Plan B and Ella are covered), but also violates the principles of the Church Amendments which protects conscience rights for those who object to contraceptives and other services on moral or religious grounds.

Responding to it, Bishop Thomas Olmstead of Phoenix announced that his diocese will not comply with the mandate and Archbishop Dennis Schnurr of Cincinnati and Bishop David Ricken of Green Bay, agreed to refuse to comply.

I’m not exactly a social conservative, but I don’t agree with forcing catholics to go against their conscience.

I don’t like this. and I’m not pro-life, but I believe in freedom of religion, and forcing a religion to go against their beliefs is unconstitutional.

I agree with the Catholic bishops for saying this, and for refusing to comply with the mandate.

However, didn’t they also work to help get Obamacare passed in the first place???? They help get this monstrosity shoved on us, and when the serpent turns back around on them, only then do they see the light? That’s kind of depressing.

It takes a lot to get the Catholic bishops riled up, but Obama has managed to do it. I just hope that more bishops and particularly archbishops join the pro-life cause.

As a lifelong Catholic to say that I’m disappointed with the church is a gross understatement. The church has SUPPORTED socialism for years and I feel less of a connection to it everytime I turn on the news.

I agree that the Catholic Church has always (in my opinion) be as liberal as the day is long. For that very reason, I do not join that church even though my whole family is Catholic ( I am a former Methodist but now call myself a Christian- no affliation)

I have held out because of the Catholics liberal stand on many issues.

Having said that, I have ALWAYS respected the Catholic Churchs stand on Pro-Life.

Unfortunately, some of the bishops and archbishops have not been strong in that area and often join the liberal side on many matters.

Maybe with Obama staring them down, they will finally see the light and realize what this sorry bastard is up to.

Having Obamacare state this, is in my opinion, a foreshadowing of what is to come with regards to the time of the AntiChrist. All things will be under the same ruling.

Since I am not Catholic, I am not well informed on all this if’s, and’s or but’s with the Church. What I can say, however, is that since I have had many co-worker’s over the years from with a Catholic background, I found out many have different viewpoints from one another. For instance, there was quite a debate amongst co-worker’s as to the reality of Hell. Some vehemently opposed that such was a reality. Whilst other Catholics believed it was no such thing. There were other Catholics that firmly believed in values of chastity while others could care less.

From a medical stand point, this Obama Care does not bode well for any hospital that operates as a Catholic Institution, Seventh Day Adventist Institution or whatever ‘faith-based” institution and mission statement accompanies it’s core values. I will absolutely refuse to be employed anywhere that I know performs abortions. Furthermore, to make demands on medical residents to perform abortions when it is not of their core values is beyond the pale. I am hearing of this being implemented in various medical universities. I don’t think it is rightful; especially if it is a private institution.

Also the US Conference of Catholic Bishops as a whole has repeatedly called Catholic insitutions and the faithful to resistance:

The CR which, “…expressly denied the administration the funds to carry out some regulatory activities but did not deny it the funds to carry out the sterilization-contraception-abortifacient regulation.

No, the bishops have been pressing for universal health care for decades, and the Church has gone so far to say that basic health care is a human right, but this does not mean that it universally supports universal health insurance. In fact, the bishops were extremely hesitant concerning Obamacare, and lobbied extensively against it at first: their biggest concerns were using public funding for abortion and repealing of conscience clauses: in short, they saw this coming. However, with assurances from some “pro-life” Democrats and the president, those concerns were “taken care of”, and some of the bishops supported it (again, providing those concerns were taken care of).

In all, I’d say the bishops supported the idea and the effort, not necessarily Obamcare.

    @Hickster:

To be quite frank: it doesn’t matter what individual Catholics believe, but what the Church teaches. The Church has condemned communism and socialism as evil since 1891 in the encyclical Rerum Novarum–as well as extreme capitalism (in which the human person is seen as a means for profit, a tool for material gain). This doesn’t stop some (c)atholics from being socialists.

The Church has always taught the reality of Hell and the grave evil of contraception…this doesn’t mean every self-professed Catholic will agree with it.

We are now at the point that was ahead!

The fundamental freedom was life itself and government tampered with it diabolically!

What did the shepherds of the “church” expect after the slaughter of defenseless millions of Unborn Americans by the Deadly Abortionist/Democrat Alliance?

No “church” voices were heard condemning the Alliance and those (in the pews) who brought them to power.

They are now the “militant state” in America, a force that will not be denied. They are close to achieving their goal and the condition of “timid church” in America will not prevent them.

Too little too late from the shepherds to save America and true freedom for the sheep.
    Frank K. Porter Jr.

The Catholic Church got JFK elected. Should have enough sway yet to get Obama unelected in Nov.

    From your lips…

Beck had a good show last night on GBTV with a mixed panel (Catholic, evangelical, Jew) and this is unifying Christian sects (conservative and liberals) and Jews. Beck also sees it as more than just an issue of forced health procedures. It looks to be an underlying effort to push out religion and replace it.

There are enough pro-life Americans (not just Catholics) that if they all truly voted their consciences, there’d be no way Obama could win.

    @ Big L

If they didn’t want to vote GOP, they could stay home.

They really could throw a monkey wrench into the works!

    Too little too late.

As a Catholic, I am still reeling from the lack of opposition to allowing Obama to speak at Notre Dame. Anybody else remember that mess?

“Roman Catholics are never going to vote GOP.”

    Really? NEVER?!

Might want to wipe the ignorance from your eyes. As an example, the Cincinnati area is 26% Catholic and Republican through-and-through.

And the muzz will continue to use the muzz card to be free of all the onerous rules, regs and constraints of 0-hole’s Hell Care.
Stunning how the rest of us have to fight claw, tooth and nail just to practice some of our religious beliefs that conflict with Hell Care.

Churches should ignore this shit. Laugh in o-hole’s face and ignore it.

First they came for the Pro-Life Catholics,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Pro-Life Catholic.

Then they came for the Pro-Life Protestants,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Pro-Life Protestant,

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the Republicans,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Republican.

    Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Militant atheism at work. The reason they are presently aligned with muzz is because they are useful in tearing down Christian solidarity. Reject social justice and liberation theology or you are doomed.

    You bet I do!

Why does the “Catholic Establishment” keep looking the other way when OUR religion is being relentlessly attacked?

BTW – this is an area where Gingrich needs to get attention and traction, as the attacks are purposeful and continuing.

Honestly, gopers, isn’t it the left who’se always telling us that we must fear the eeeeeeeeevil Zionists, who are oppressing those poor, pitiful, baby-killing Palestinians?

You know, just shouting insults and abuse might work with your family, and the people who have to put up with you in school, or the workplace; they given in, and you get your way.

Doesn’t work in the real world, however.

What do we do, though, since Hellary & Obama have purchased several of the voting firms? What then do we make of it all?
