Catholics Read Letter Blasting Obama’s “Assault on Religious Liberty” During Sunday Mass…
To say this is highly unusual (and very welcome) in the Catholic church would be an understatement.
(CBS News) — During church services on Sunday, Catholics around the country were read a blistering letter assailing the Obama administration for an “assault on religious liberty” in the form of a coming requirement that most church-linked organizations – among them hospitals, schools and universities - offer birth control coverage as part of their health care plans.
Despite strong lobbying from religious groups, the Health and Human Services Department announced earlier this month that most church-linked groups will not be exempt from the requirements – which also mandate that no co-pay be charged for contraceptive services – though they will have an extra year to comply beyond the August 1 deadline. Churches themselves (along with any other employer that is explicitly focused on offering a religious message, and which primarily employs those who believe in that message) are exempt from the requirement.
Religious groups were outraged by the decision – saying it forced employers at church-linked organizations to violate their conscience – and on Sunday Catholic leaders took their complaints directly to parishioners. As Business Insider reported, similar letters were read in churches around the country complaining that “the Obama Administration has cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our Nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty.”
In explaining the decision to require birth control coverage for chuch-linked groups, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that “Scientists have abundant evidence that birth control has significant health benefits for women and their families, it is documented to significantly reduce health costs, and is the most commonly taken drug in America by young and middle-aged women. This rule will provide women with greater access to contraception by requiring coverage and by prohibiting cost sharing.”

This shows why the whole Obama-is-a-Muslim debate was meaningless. Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, Rastafarianism, Buddhism, etc mean nothing to Obama because he sees himself as god.

I just said this to someone last night. It is an attempt to get taxes from the Church.
Also, am I correct that Amish and Muslims are exempt from the ObamaCare mandate?
One more thought, as the old “chickens come home to roost” goes, the RC Church has nobody but themselves to blame here (and I say that as a lifelong Catholic … Cat-lick, if in Philly). The 1960s the Church went through political/social changes outside the established religious doctrine. They opened the doors to secularism. As a kid I recall my Mom and Aunts and Grandmothers spitting fire at the extreme changes within the Mass, the nuns, and the church decor itself. The ‘folk mass’, the injection of hippie type crap from dancing in the aisles, hugging and kissing, and the banners and posters that would make Peter Max envious.
Now the Church is seeing what happenes when you open that airlock and allow the alien infected inside…
The obama administration has their hand in everybodies panties and wallet.
Newt and Mitt need to cut the back-biting crap and focus on the issues.

Pro-life.

Simplified tax.

Many religious groups will look at this and think “First they came for the Catholics”. This action will back fire, big time.
Obama might have thought he had Catholics in his pocket, because the only ones he knows are pro-abortion politicians like Pelosi.
And the Church has been into social and economic justice for years, with the clergy favoring amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Maggie – Yes, Muslims & the Amish are exempt. You are also correct in your recitation of the change in the church during the 1960′s. That was Vatican II and I believe was an attempt to get young people back into the church. It had the reverse affect on me. I stopped going to mass, but I’m back now and have been for @10 years, thanks to our wonderful pastor. Unfortunately, too many progressive Catholics fell under the spell of the Moron-in-Chief. They should be slapped silly or better yet, have their knuckles cracked by a nun’s ruler!

If anyone wants to take birth control that is their business and they can get it but the government should not force any religious organization to fund something they do not believe in. I agree that the Church itself is somewhat to blame for their leanings towards socialism and cries against capitalism – capitalism that actually helps support their churches, schools, and missions. They have not stood up against the slaughter of Christians overseas – they have been tepid.
Thank you to my brothers and sisters in the Catholic church. This is welcome news. Now if just some of my fellow protestant church folks would wake up.

The government should stay out of all religious beliefs. If someone believes that some actions are SIN, they should not be forced to participate. In fact most would not participate in something they believed would cost them their soul.
On pro-life matters, the Catholic church puts us evangelicals to shame…at least from what I’ve seen with the pro-life efforts I’ve been involved in.
