Komen Board Member Claims They Haven’t Caved on Planned Parenthood Funding…

The fact of the matter is four days ago Planned Parenthood was not eligible for any future grants, now they are. Bottom line: Komen caved.

Via LifeNews:

Following a new statement Komen for the Cure released making many observers believe the breast cancer charity reversed position on whether it would fund grants to Planned Parenthood, one Komen board member says it hasn’t caved.

Komen board member John Raffaelli talked with the Washington Post after the statement was released and said the new announcement doesn’t necessarily mean there is any reversal until and unless Planned Parenthood receives additional funding beyond what was already planned before Komen’s December decision.

“It would be highly unfair to ask us to commit to any organization that doesn’t go through a grant process that shows that the money we raise is used to carry out our mission,” Raffaelli said. “We’re a humanitarian organization. We have a mission. Tell me you can help carry out our mission and we will sit down at the table.”

This is their “oh shit” moment, when they realize that they just received an ass load of donor money specifically because of their decision to drop planned parenthood. They are trying to do damage control with conservatives who are sure to demand their money back. Haha! Fucking idiots!

Don’t concern yourself with how Komen funds other organizations, you can always not contribute to Komen if it really bothers you. Direct your energy towards stopping FEDERAL funding of Planned Parenthood as it does not

Pelosi: Komen reversal a ‘big victory’ for women’s health
By Mike Lillis – 02/03/12 01:26 PM ET

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the Susan G. Komen foundation’s retreat from its decision to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood is a victory for women’s health.

The California Democrat predicted the foundation would continue to get support from her party but suggested the public — and women in particular — might not be so quick to forgive and forget.

“We certainly will be able to support them as we have in the past,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol. But the extent of the public backlash, she added, is “a question of what other people in the country think about it.”

“It was an unfortunate situation but it was dealt with in a short period of time, [and] I commend the Susan G. Komen foundation for seeing the light on this,” Pelosi added. “[It] just goes to show you, when women speak out, women win. Women’s health has a big victory this morning.”

Komen churned headlines Wednesday by announcing it would no longer provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual grants to Planned Parenthood for women’s cancer screenings. The group said the decision was derived from a new policy against funding organizations under investigation by Congress. On Friday, it apologized for that decision and said it would only deny funds to a group under a criminal investigation.

Planned Parenthood is currently under the microscope of House Republicans over whether the group uses federal money to fund abortions, but Komen said its action on Friday would make Planned Parenthood eligible to apply for funding.

Stirring accusations that politics influenced Komen’s initial decision, the policy to reject funding for Planned Parenthood was adopted after Komen hired Karen Handel — a Georgia Republican who once ran for governor on a platform that included defunding Planned Parenthood — as its senior vice president of public policy.

Pelosi on Friday downplayed the notion that politics was behind Komen’s decision to sever ties with Planned Parenthood.

“I can only take [the group] at its word,” Pelosi said. “They made one decision, and now they have reversed it, with a good outcome. I think we should just go forward with that outcome and focus on … women’s health.”

Some people are just stupid. Donations to Komen skyrocketed suddenly, when the announcement was made. Instead of riding on that wave, they chose to jump off, and cave into murderers. Well, even though it only hurts the recipients of that service, I want that wave to crash to a stop, and to head in the other direction. Maybe when they see that their charity will actually and literally LOSE money, thanks to their association with a business that refuses to acknowledge that they make their money off child murder, they might wise up.

    Might.

Oh, waaay too late. Next time, try sticking to your position and pointing out that PP does nothing but *referrals* for bc screenings/mamograms. And that they are under NO obligation to provide money for PP– they are supposed to be focusing on bc *research* for a CURE.

Become a solely research funding non-profit, and PP goes away. ‘Cause PP is only in the killing business, not in the saving lives business.

Komen acted like the typical celebrity/politician that does/says something that stirs conservative support and gets quickly dragged through the mud by the media and left-wing politicians.

Komen, instead of realizing how good this move would be for donations and how good this move would be for actually combatting breast cancer (since their money wouldn’t be completely wasted on non-cancer related pursuits like abortion), chose not to get scolded by a minority of people.

  27. Matt says:

“from now on all i will see is a pink ribbon with a dead bloody baby in it…”

Market it. You may make a fortune.

As an aside, whenever you see something pink, there is a good chance that a portion of the proceeds goes to Komen.

Fellow 2nd Amendment supporters, pay particular attention to this. They have partnerships with a few manufacturers that produce pink guns and give money from sales to komen.

Never again from me. They sold their souls to babykillers.

  41. Ed says:

If they wish to be fair, it’s simple. They should only give money to organizations that actually do screening for breast cancer on-site. Not ones that just refer people. This is a big mistake on Komen’s part. They will see their donations fall because of it. Liberals and the rest of the pro-murder bunch are not going to donating to them, because few did before.

Komen probably didn’t want her home torched to the ground by another Radicalized Democrat group….

  43. Axe says:
    February 3, 2012 at 9:13 pm

I must ask, why the hell were you funding them in the first place? And, assuming you realize that you made a horrible mistake, why has it taken you so damn long to come to your senses? Haven’t you been paying attention to your own industry especially over the last 3-4 years?

Like minds. That’s what it looks like to me. They’re in cahoots, still. All this stuff lately is just a big scam to garner donations since several of the normal channels, like the taxpayers, are closing down now. If you gave to them, you got suckered. When it comes to this issue, it is wise to wait and let it play out completely. These people have always employed extreemly deceptive tactics. I can only hope you’ve learned your lesson.

Apparently, this isn’t the “reversal” the media claims that it is. Komen had already promised to honor existing grants, and they amended their criteria so that organizations under criminal investigation won’t qualify. Planned Parenthood is ALWAYS under criminal investigation in at least one state at any given time, so they won’t ever qualify.

If Komen is spending 20-23% of donations on breast cancer research, I really don’t see the difference if they also fund PP or the Nth Korean nuclear program or just buy Oreos. It’s already a disgusting misuse of donations milked from people’s good nature.

Not one of you would have the balls to start raising money for a kids sports team, or a firefighter fund, or anything else and only forward on 1/4 of the money you raised. There’s words to describe you doing that, like “scam” and “fraud”.

And remember I think a lot of you are cnuts, but not on that scale. That’s some ostracised-from-society level of douchebaggery.
