My 16 year old buddy in high school built his own electric car out of a Mazda 323 corpse from the junk yard and a hatch back filled with 120 volt batteries. It got significantly further than 25 miles.

The brakes even recharged the battery.

Lesson: Obama destroys everything he touches. He’s like the King Midas of Shit.

We need a mandate that says you have to live within “electric range” of your employment. Problem solved.

Another monumental failure that was actively promoted by the O Team. Way to go America, all you imbeciles who voted for this clown and his hopenchange have a daily dose of his failures and hypocrisy. Too bad it is affecting the people who cannot stand the sight or sound of him.

Not even an all electric car. A P.O.S. scam, good for 16 miles worth of nail biting drive time until the eeeevil fossil fuel kicks in to get you there. 46K, such a deal and don’t forget to fill up before leaving home. Lawdy, the stupidity of Obots is bottomless. How dare the fuggers foist this clunker on the American people. Our founders rebelled over a lousy tea tax!

That is very nice that you all on The 5 can sit around and laugh and joke about what a pathetic joke the Chevy Volt is.

In the meantime, barry stole $100,000 from me by “haircutting” my GM Bonds. I got 9 cents back on the dollar. I need that money for retirement since I am 80 years old. And repayment of the Bonds was GUARANTEED to me by my contract and by federal bankruptcy laws.

barry brazenly broke federal bankruptcy laws and ripped off senior investors without thinking twice about it. Take that as a warning!

  31. SavoirFaire says:
    February 7, 2012 at 7:11 pm

If it is designed as a battery-electric drive with a gas-engine generator backup, I’d say that was a good start, but the generator engine should be a turbine running CNG.

I bought a Chevy Geo Metro back in ’89 that got 50+ mpg. I think what the car companies and the government are doing and making it so we can’t have vehicles that just get better mileage is utter bullshit. The car companies and the government are screwing with the people of this country by forcing this Green bullshit down our throats. I want my Geo metro back, who gives a shit if it had trailer tires and a washing machine for an engine. Point being, it got from point A to point B cheaply.

  35. Steve H. says:
    February 7, 2012 at 8:14 pm

And my Geo only cost around 10K. If you double the price for inflation that’s still 20K for a vehicle that got 50+ MPG!!!! Fuck you GM!!

  38. Stromm says:
    February 8, 2012 at 10:36 am

WOW people. Before bashing the Volt from ignorance, you should really go learn about other hybrids like the Prius.

FACT: Hybrids get crappy range when on electric ONLY.
FACT: Hybrids switch over to fossil fuel engines when their batteries run low (not actually empty, but low).
FACT: Not even the Prius can run ALL electric for 25 miles. It’s a measely 8 miles.

For those upset because your 20 year old car GOT 50MPG, understand it’s not GM’s fault not all cars do that now. It’s the government restrictions, the addition of ethonol to our gas (sometimes as much as 20%), etc. Not to mention you miss the point of a hybrid/electric car… no emissions when running.

  39. AP says:
    February 10, 2012 at 12:01 pm

Wow! It switched from electric to gas after the battery ran out? Just like it’s supposed to?

Bolling is an idiot. The car didn’t break down, it didn’t burn gas for 25 miles, and operated as designed.

You can argue about the feasibility of electric cars in range vs. cost, etc. But making up a problem where none exists hurts Bolling’s credibility.

  40. dba...vagabond trader says:
    February 10, 2012 at 12:03 pm

    @AP:

So, the point of this over priced taxpayer subsidized loser was what again?

  41. Realistic says:
    February 10, 2012 at 9:24 pm

The reasons why smart people do not buy Electric or Hybrid cars are: Batteries are expensive, short lived, efficiency isn’t 100 % and the electricity is not free. Going electric you won’t decrease Air Pollution because 50 % of the electricity is produced by burning COAL. By the way a Jetta Diesel, TDI for $23000 makes 40MPG.

  43. David Kramer says:
    February 10, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Can I get a $50 Billion bailout, I will reinvent the wheel and maybe sell like 400 vehicles per month.

  44. AP says:
    February 11, 2012 at 12:04 pm

Does anybody here realize the Volt that the government tested caught fire only after 1) it was crashed, 2) the battery was left fully charged, 3) the Fed’s rolled the car on its top, and 4) they waited 3 weeks?

You’re supposed to drain the battery after a crash just like you would a gas tank. They didn’t. Your gas-powered car is more likely to catch fire than a Volt is. Are you going to stop driving IT?

You may not like the Volt, but making up lies about its safety makes you no better than greenies who hated the Hummer.

  45. Kal says:

    oh… like you?

  46. Leonard Mintz says:
    February 14, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Your comments about thge Volt are off base. I have been driving mine since last March, have 13,000 miles on it. My average MPG is 119, down in cold weather from 144. It corners like it’s on rails, has great performance and pickup, and drives likea sports car. What is not to like?

So what if it switches from electric to gas after 26 miles? Driving it you cannot tell the difference except for a slight hum. The only way the switch to gas is a problem for anyone is if you are out of gas too.

It’s almost as though you had an axe to grind before you ever started the car.

  47. Wooooo!!!!! says:
    February 14, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Hey Leonard Mintz: Well aren’t you just so special, you’ve got $40 thou plus to drop on a car. After the rest of us sucker taxpayers subsidized the price down for you.

  48. AJ says:
    February 15, 2012 at 2:56 am

It should be honest to anyone that these guys have an axe to grind. Oh noes, it only gets 120 miles per gallon! You scoundrels!
For fark’s sake. For once, for ONCE, be honest, haters!
If Bush were still in office, you’d say that this was the greatest thing since sliced bread, proof of the supremacy of old fashioned free-market capitalism, a shining example of American engineering, yadda yadda.

  49. Dave Jones says:
    February 24, 2012 at 11:41 am

AJ and Leonard Mintz, the gullible lemmings of North Korea worship their little dictator, now dead and gone, Kim Il Jong in the same ignorant way you worship Barack The Liar Obama. Obama pledged “to cut the federal deficit in half by the end of my first term.” How’s that working, AJ and Leonard?
Obama said Bush’s request for an increase in the federal deficit was a “failure of leadership.” Here Obama fails in spades. On and on your God’s lies and incompetence and corruption extend, and you don’t even care.
You blamed Bush endlessly for the rise in gas prices. Obama presides over much greater increases, and you don’t give a rip. Your president – the Food Stamp President.
