Rasmussen National Poll: Santorum Surges To 12-Point Lead Over Romney…

(Rasmussen) — Follow the bouncing ball. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum has now bounced to a 12-point lead over Mitt Romney in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Santorum with 39% support to the former Massachusetts governor’s 27%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich follows from a distance with 15% of the vote, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with 10%. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Just over a week ago, it was Romney leading the pack with 34% after his win in the Florida Primary, followed by Gingrich 27%, Santorum 18% and Paul 11%. But then last week Santorum swept GOP caucuses in Colorado and Minnesota and a non-binding primary in Missouri as Gingrich continues to stumble in the race to be the conservative alternative to Romney.

    I hope Rick isn’t hiding something. If there is a skeleton, they will find it.

    More than51% of American voters voted for Obama in 2008; do you folks really think we will win any of those centrists and independents back by nominating the staunchest, right-wing candidate?

    This is not a contest for conservative purity; it’s an election we have to win for the future of America – and if Santorum is our man, it is almost certain we will lose.

    and you know how many went with Obama for the hipster nonsense (that otherwise wouldn’t have wasted their time voting) and how many stayed home rather than vote for that backstabbing bastard McCain. Time either go big or stay at home you moderate stooge.

    The Dems are desperate for Mittens to win the Primary because they know he can be beat – especially in a debate about RomneyCare/Obamacare.
    Rick wasn`t my 1st choice, nor my 2nd – not even my 3rd choice. But I truly think he can win on the ABO mantra alone.
    And if he chooses Allen West as his VP – then hopefully odumbo will be toast.

    That same tired old canard about scaring away independents is a theory so full of holes you could strain spaghetti with it. Middle of the roadsters may be indecisive and slow to make a call, but bottom line, they choose to be called independents so they can reserve the right to switch horses in midstream.

    I’ll happily vote for Rick Santorum against Obama. I like him. I’m conservative. I’m a practicing Catholic. He’s my kind of guy…I just don’t see how he can possibly win in a general election against Barack Obama.

    This is not a Senate race, or a congressional race – this is a national election. And to win a national election you must get a majority of votes from the mushy center. If Santorum is our nominee the media will make the election a referendum on contraception and gays. Is that really what we want to talk about – condoms and homosexuality?

    The national debt, the size of government and national security, which are the issues this election should be about, will be lost in a pointless discussion on issues that don’t matter. And we will lose…At least that’s my fear.

    Obama will win another 4 years and America may never recover from what he has planned for our country.

    I believe that Santorum’s religion, being a “family man”, his sweater vests have nothing to do with winning the general election against Obama.

    Only one person now still in the race is capable of defeating Obama…that man is Newt Gingrich. If the GOP does not soon decide this, all will be lost.

    You folks making all of the predictions about how the election will come out need to stop taking yourself so seriously. You need to take seriously what you believe to be proper principle instead of trying to be so intelligently pragmatic. Obama is a pragmatic kinda guy; he is pandering to the most ignorant among us. He is either making a successful gamble in that regard, or he isn’t. You are going to find out how well he is able to play the public. Just be prepared for whatever the outcome. If we win, the victory is only the beginning if we are going to restore and save the country under The Constitution. If we lose, it won’t matter about what shoulda happened.

    Santorum is the only candidate in this field who can beat obongo

    mitt = obongocare

    newt = loose cannon, undisciplined progressive with a ‘R’ in front of his name

    paul = marginalized by his own statements

    santorum = principled conservative who lives his beliefs and therefore doesn’t need a teleprompter to reframe to marxist media questions he will be given / attacked with

    @ringo, really?
    Reagan, who came within a score of votes at a brokered convention of taking the nomination away from a sitting President? Reagan was a weak candidate because of his conservatism? Reagan who thankfully framed the path of this country for the next 25 years? I call BS

    If you followed the issues a little more closely instead of watching cnn and msnbc so much, you would realize that the marxist talking points about Santorum saying the states can overturn roe vs wade is a LIE and easily exposed

    This country is a Conservative Nation, stop watching the sunday morning talk shows and listening to npr

    just the fact that you spout this drivel makes you highly suspect imho that you have a clue what it means when you proclaim yourself a ‘conservative’

    I see two options here:

    1. you are a Very! polite troll, and I must say, doing a Much better than average job trying to sway opinion

    2. you need to back off the estrogen, I’m not sure why you are taking it, but seriously (ladies!! don’t bash me for this, it is just a lame attempt at a humorous analogy)

The real news is that there is not a viable candidate that is suited to lead this country in the republican party right now. If there were, this whole charade would have been over last month.

    santorum is enjoying his bounce mostly because folks don’t really know much about him other than that “he seems to be a nice, clean, conservative young man”. believe me, as soon as the litany of nutty things he’s had to say over the years, especially in regards to sex and privacy issues, he will be an overnight national laughingstock. keep in mind that he was, recently, found to be too
    socially ‘conservative’ for pennsylvania. we make him the candidate for president at our own peril.

    I will vote for a bag of wet toast before I vote for Obama. I will happily support the Republican nominee no matter who it is. And I voted for Santorum in the Missouri primary because he was the most authentic in his beliefs.

    But…

    I am genuinely scared about him getting the nomination. I’m scared that he’ll lose, or worse, that he’ll win and be Bush III.

    We are so boned right now. We need a MAJOR course correction to more limited government, major entitlement reform, major spending reductions, just a fundamental change in attitude. None of the top three are anywhere near where they need to be. The only one who comes close to that is Paul, and his foreign policy views are deal-breakers for me.

    At this point, I’m hoping for a brokered convention that gets us Paul Ryan, maybe Rubio or even Daniels. Hell, I’d settle for tissue samples from Reagan.
