GE Orders All Employees To Drive Chevy Volts…

That’s odd, why would GE pick the Chevy Volt as the company’s new official car?
General Motors and General Electric are two companies that have been in the political crosshairs lately. GM stands accused of “crony capitalism,” while GE is under fire for paying no Federal income taxes in 2010. The two companies share more than that though, with GE placing an order for 12,000 Chevy Volts and other hybrid vehicles.
A memo leaked to Green Car Reports lays out GE’s plans for their new fleet of Volts, and as expected, it has some people crying foul.
The memo, sent to employees of GE Healthcare Americas team explains that all sedan, crossover, and minivan purchases in 2012 will be replaced by the Chevy Volt. Only field engineers are excepted from having to drive a company Volt.
GE will offer estimates for installation Level 2 Charging Stations, though all-gas use will be allowed when there is no electric option. Any employees who opt out of the Volt program will not be compensated for their expenses. Those who do choose to drive the Volt will be reimbursed for public charging and home charging costs, in addition to gas uses.
While some people are probably put off by having to drive a Volt, GE claims to have crunched the numbers and believes that in the long term, this will save the multi-national company big bucks. More than that though, GE is positioning itself as a big player in the EV charging market. Getting employees into Volts also means getting charging stations into homes.

Don’t laugh, we’ll be getting our notice in the mail next month: Dear Citizen, we are happy to annouce that you are the proud owner of a new Chevy Volt, of course we will have to remove and dispose of the vehicle you are driving. Sincerely…
I wonder if we are subsidizing each vehicle at the usual 10k per vehicle. If so the taxpayers are putting up 120,000
*announce*
Despite it’s inefficiency and lack of popularity, it is the agenda so full steam ahead! Insanity.
What car you “must” drive.
What food you “must” eat.
What food your children “can have” in their lunchboxes.
What house you “can” live in, own and what you “can” pay for it.
What you “must” pay for for others’ contraception and abortions.
What you “must” report.
Where you “can” fly and how.
What you “can” own and what you “can’t”.
…this is not going to end well.
Screwy laptop. If so the taxpayers are putting up $120,000,000
Vee haf vays of making you drive a Volt!
looks like all the 1000′s and 1000′s of ge workers in china will be driving a volt..
Those GE workers better wear their asbestos underpants.
“I just carjacked this white bitch and she STILL loves me!”
This administration will go to any lengths to drive up the sales numbers for the Volt as I’m sure Bam pressured Immelt into this decision.
So what did those people do to piss off the CEO of GM and now have to drive the newest death car?
Kind of like that relative we all had at one time, that would force you to listen to the same story over and over.
Except this time we are paying for it.
Just how much more of this is the Americna public going to take?
I’m so going to laugh when I see one of these cars stranded on the side of the road.
I feel bad for the employees, the company they work for is run by crony capitalists.
@Visistor.
Scary ain’t it for s Free Country?
A creative way to inflate the sales numbers. Kind of like planting weapons at Mexican crime scenes.
I hope the idiots at GE budgeted for fire extinguishers… some big ones at those charging stations.
America’s very expensive Yugo.
Tax free too because GE don’t pay no steenkin’ taxes.
@Jimco: I wonder if they’ll count ‘potential sales’ in their pr figures?
The $10,000 per car, that we are all paying for them to buy this… where do you think that money goes?
To the UNION, to pay for their benefits, and for the MANDATORY contribution to the Obama re-election.
Every stinking dollar should go straight to GM bondholders and preferred shareholders that got bent over the way they did, at interest.
I don’t care if GM develops a car that get 1,000 miles to the gallon. I will never – EVER – buy one.
GE will get $7K per car, $10K under the Kenyans new brain dead budget, but that’s nothing new. GE sucks up billions in “green” subsidies. I wouldn’t buy a GE product at gun point.
Ah, Central Planning, ain’t it grand!
Hey! That Chevy Volt in the picture has TWO AIR BAGS on the driver’s side!
Okay…let’s look at the numbers.
Volt’s cost $40,000 to build.
http://gm-volt.com/2010/11/26/report-each-volt-costs-40000-to-build/
Volt’s are selling for around $39,288.
(Google it…I’m not handing out links…)
There is a $10,000 kick back from the government right now.

Someone always make commission on sales like this.
I dunno, but I’m feeling like I just got screwed somehow.
Let’s see what the big kahunas at GE drive. Not a Volt, I bet.
Voltsel.
GE, a company that brought electric comforts to American homes,in league with commies, reduced to cheap ponzi schemes. Wow.
Executive suits made of NOMEX!
I’m heading right on over to legalzoom.com and getting that one going!
Will GE also reimburse the increase in home owners insurance for a fire risk?
When one of their employees and or teir families are killed driving the little death traps will their be any legal remedy?
@dba…it is pathetic, remember back in the day(coulda been the Sixties even) the commmercial for them that ended…G..no, GE. Yellow makes me sad.
wow, so GE will get a 10K kickback for every VOLT they drive at the taxpayers expense.
I wonder who is going to carry the fire insurance?

Too bad that they’re not the single use models…
You knew this was coming! The next thing will be tax payer subsidies to install charging stations in homes and around town……
@sb – While Barry is stopping subsidies to oil and gas.
pendog, you’re thinking of GTE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTE). Yeah, I’m old.
Maybe next they will tell them they can’t belong to a union. That would save a lot of money.
The union goons at Government Motors deserve to drive Volts. Let them experience that clunker firsthand.
I wonder if the “dolt” will have the same problem that Tesla’s $100k car is having?
Zip will probably be posting story.
Anyway, battery problems, combination of under charging, batteries not holding a charge for a period of time,I’m sure temperature factors (although not mentoned) all have contributed to turning the car into a “brick”! If battery falls below 5% of total charge this will happen! No recharge!!
The only fix is $32k in battery replacement (that’s a friends of tesla price), plus labor!! So $40k for battery fix!
As I recall didn’t barry give them $500k that we know of and probably more? Green energy, our greenbacks! I’m sure tesla will be fine under barry’s new tax plan! Failed green energy gets subsidied even more!!
Criminals all!!!
@ivefle: Thanks for harshing my mellow. I was so young then…
Wow, GE employees must’ve screwed up badly if they’re ordered to drive around in the death mobile.
I’m confused. It sounds like GE will be buying the cars, but ” Any employees who opt out of the Volt program will not be compensated for their expenses. Those who do choose to drive the Volt will be reimbursed for public charging and home charging costs, in addition to gas uses.”
Why would employees be reimbursed for the costs? Wouldn’t GE be paying the costs for their own cars right from the start?
I heard that every employee of GM drives Toyota’s.
Folks may not be aware that GE is same company that backed dc current
over ac current early in the 20th century, only to be later forced into
adopting the far, far better technique of ac distribution made possible by the genius of Nicoles Tesla and financed by Westinghouse.
GE will be eating crow cooked over a burning volt.
Crony Capitalism and Big Government ~ The Chicago Way
Government Take Overs, Grants, Green Dollars, Subsidies, Earmarks, Tax write-offs galore and best of all, Obama gets many big campaign checks.
Everybody wins except for the taxpaying public.
Wait a minute, did I read that correctly? The company ORDERS employees to drive the Volt? When did GE become Obama the emperor? Anyone else think unions have gotten completely out of control? I understand that they’re taking their marching orders from the Democratic Party and George Soros but, p-l-e-a-s-e. Will they also be giving a volt to each member of the occupy movement?

A link to the tesla story.
Epic fail!
GE is buying these, right?
What about those pesky batteries that like to catch fire?
Employees issued fire suits (alla Nascar), fire extinguishers?
Soon all gov’t workers will be forced to drive one. We will be footing the bill for all these clown cars broken down along the road.
o-hole has become a full on maniacal dictator. We pay the price of his insane zeal to create chaos and destruction.
Haven’t we seen this evil plot in a movie?
Read abt. in the history books. Stalin, Hitler, Mao?
They want to cut back on their emploies?
@chickadee
Haven’t we seen any every other country in history except the USA, well at least not until 2009.
GM got money too from Europe:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8564896.stm
“GM said it needed 2bn euros of loans and guarantees from European governments.
It has asked for about 60% of this total to come from Germany, where the majority of GM’s European workers are based.
GM estimates that Opel – which includes the UK’s Vauxhall business – needs 3.3bn euros to be turned around….
…GM also plans to invest 11bn euros “in a new product offensive” over the next five years . Opel plans to launch eight new models this year, and another four in 2011.
A big slump in sales during the global downturn forced GM into bankruptcy protection last summer, and it emerged 62%-owned by the US government. ” (…)

They DO have gas back up engines…
Well, we can always refuse, right? What can they do to us? That’s right, they’ll treat us as ‘enemies of the state’.
Unreal. How do these people get away w/all of the conspiracies? Uh, business deals.
I want to see the Volt used in a Hollywood action thriller movie. Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Denzel, any of them would do.
Gonna be alot of GE employees late for work after they get a vote….. oopps I meant volt.
What a reVolting development!
So this next tax filing, GE will not have to pay taxes again. Plus they will be getting a substantial rebate from the Feds as well.
The Nation is headed for the shitter, why not drive a Chevy Turd down the drain?
That asteroid can’t come soon enough.
Commie cars are funny.
Its a marketing thing like Nissan, Nissan requires managers to drive only Nissan cars, more cars on the road means they must be a great car so people will second guess them and turn around and buy them.
So what if “a few” went up in flames, so what if a few stop running after 25 miles of electric power, so what if we have law suits later: it all does not matter.
Problem is that there are people out there that will spend the money on this BOS car which is what the Obama admin. is waiting for during this election time frame.
Failures: as mentioned the yugo,, pinto, obama volt… feel free to add more if you like
Coulda’ just reproduced the trabant from east germany. It was a piece of crap too but cost even less!
Somebody slap a new date on the Declaration of Independence and let’s get going. This is ridiculous.
It’s a company with its own fleet purchases, just like other companies. I don’t see what’s wrong with this, they are simply making fleet decisions that they believe benefit themselves and their parent company. That’s what a company that wants to profit and have a future, does. Just because Obama pays off his corrupt UAW and auto friends, that doesn’t mean I don’t want the Volt to be a success if it can be.
WHERE will they get the ELECTRIC from???
BHO/EPA closing Power Plants &&&&
COAL PLANTS!!!
FROM another post (of mine)
Obama issued a presidential directive calling for a 50-percent increase in the number of federally purchased bio-based products, including items such as paints, soaps and detergents that are developed from farm-grown plants, rather than chemicals or petroleum bases.
I will forthwith attempt to avoid purchasing any GE products or services from this moment forward, just like I turned from GM to Ford. My entire family had been loyal to GM, because my dad hauled GM cars for 30 years, but every one of us went to Ford after the bailouts. The thing about the Libtards who think the economy is static, that any changes they make will produce the results they seek, is that they fail to account for unintended consequences and backlash. A centrally planned and directed economy cannot succeed, as has been amply demonstrated by so many dictatorships in the 20th century.
