Obama Attends Groundbreaking For Smithsonian African American Museum . . . Only One Not Given A Shovel…

Kings don’t shovel dirt, that’s for the commoners!
Comments & pings are closed.(Politico) — It was a rather odd sight: as an array of museum officials, including former first lady Laura Bush, took up shovels at the groundbreaking for the first national museum dedicated exclusively to African-American history and culture, the nation’s first black president sat watching, no shovel in hand.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended the ceremony Wednesday for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and he delivered remarks.
When he finished and returned to his seat, a call was put out for groundbreakers to gather at the front of the stage. Obama then stood, buttoned his jacket and prepared to join in. But an official whispered something to him and he sat back down as museum officials and members of the museum’s advisory council, including the former first lady, picked up shovels for the ceremonial turning of the dirt. The Obamas remained on stage.
Protocol does not seem to have played a role. Turns out, presidents throughout history have turned the dirt for groundbreakings.

he’s only been trained to watch real work. He wouldn’t know a shovel unless it was silver and shoved in his gaping mouth.
An arrogant thug obama this black white tire thinks, he superior look at their African nations third world status.
Even the anointed one isn’t as shovel ready as he thought!
He will get used to KP duty in a Super Max.
Hope he likes potatoes.
The last time they tried to give him a shovel wookie grabbed it outta of his hand…she thought it was a spoon.
I’m confused, so protocol is that presidents noramlly do groundbreakings, right?
but not this loser?
He wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway…..dummy.
Barry lost out on a shovel ready job.
The man belongs in a hole w/the dirt thrown on top of him. What an idiot. Anything honorable he screws up.
Barry didn’t have TOTUS to tell him which end of the shovel to hold. He didn’t want another photo of him involved in physical activity such as throwing out the first pitch or riding a bicycle.
How much is this abortion going to cost us?
It is a museum for American blacks – not for Kenyans. He was excluded.
He did not know how to use it!
He would have broken ground, but it was a stimulus backed venture, and as we all know, it didn’t provide a single ‘shovel ready job’, even for the POTUS.
The whole notion on this is outrageous. What is the purpose of this museum? It should just be part of the Museum of AMERICAN history. Creating a separate (and not equal) building for this is divisive and discriminatory. Will Eskimo-Americans, Polish-Americans, Italian-Americans, etc, (pick your favorite hyphen-American) be able to have exhibits in this museum? I think not!
I am still waiting for the English-American museum!
mountainsniper – I made the exact same point on another blog. I think it’s horrible to have a seperate museum.
It seems to me that this was a last minute decision, which probably came from the WH to have the two of them attend. Was this museum idea begun under Bush’s reign? Is that why Laura was there? Maybe they know Mrs.O always has a hissy fit when she has to be seen with a Bush so didn’t originally invite her. Then I can imagine the WH scene when Mrs.O found out about it. Probably told them she’d be there whether they liked it or not! Thus, last minute and not enough shovels. Angry black woman still fits.
Fits. What’s the prob? He should have to do some “work”? Get real. He’d had his wife and kids out there digging before he would. Wookie nailed him years ago when she told him he better get a real job. Lawyering wasn’t working out, so he went for community organizing. That worked out well, didn’t it?
superiority some time takes a back seat to historical photo ops or something.
F**k Obozo…and Mooch!
Please for the love of God, vote these idiots out!

segregationalist. ever read the Princeton thesis? 99 pages of “thus”es.
pure racism. this Country is only 236 years. it took every drop of blood, sweat and tear of American People to build this Country and 3 years to transform it into a doormat and rip off. for the “common” good, of course.
Am I reading this wrong? “The Obamas remained on stage?” While others took shovels, like the Former First Lady, and tossed dirt? I read it several times, though did they both not participate at all? Am lost here.
The last time Mookie and Obozo had a shovel, they lubed it up and shoved it up Barry’s caboose. It was a night of sexual gratification for the both of them. It almost made Barry forget Reggie, but only for a minute.
Is that the sun setting on Obamas empire?
to his credit he was probably advised that any camera moments of him with a shovel in his hand was not a good idea.
all his joking about shovel ready jobs and all….

Watch the last 10 seconds, starting at 1:35 to see how it applies to this scenario…….
If he shovels like he throws baseballs – I can understand why..
Hate that idiotic smirk on his face – will somebody please wipe it off, once and for all?
It would have taken too long to train him how to use it.
The “official” probably whispered, “Remember the photo of you trying to put bookshelves together, and the photo of you trying to negotiate a gate with an umbrella? My advice to you is to sit down.”
Shovel – Bowling Ball? All the same.
They didn’t give him a shovel because he wouldn’t know how to use it. This guy never did a days work in his life.
African American Museum sounds racists to me. Where is my White American Museum?
Not to defend Barry or Mooch, which I would never do! However, as I understand it, only those on the Museum board did the actual groundbreaking. Laura Bush apparently is on the board of the Af-Am Museum.
The pictures of Barry and Mooch lounging on stage watching those with the shovels are priceless. They look like an emperor and empress watching the servants toil. Makes me sick.
Zapped – my impression is not of emperor and empress, but of the 2 that get picked last for teams. Or the only 2 that don’t get invited to the party. It’s really pathetic.
The official whispered “Let’s give something for Weasel Zippers to talk about, you know, identity politics and all.”
Are we positive Manard G. Krebs isn’t his Great Granddad?
Hey Lars,
We have enough on this President to send him to Leavenworth for a very long time. Tell us the last time a President went to prison?
I am sure that the perceived optics of having an African-American President actually being made to do some work, no matter how symbolic, for this ceremony would not have been worth the outcry that would surely have resulted.
Remember what a hissy fit was thrown when it was perceived that Juan Williams was booed at the debate on MLK Day.
Allergic to shovels…breaks out in blisters on the palms of his hands.
