Who cares what color they are as long as they’re the best at killing the bad guys? This PC drivel has no place in warfare, especially at the special ops level.
(TIME) — In nature, most seals are black, with relatively few white ones. The Navy’s SEALs have exactly the opposite problem — they’re overwhelmingly white, with hardly any blacks. So they’re trying to do something about it.
It’s a fundamental challenge in a democracy with an all-volunteer force: recruits may be drawn from all segments of society, but elite military units — and none is more elite these days than the SEALs, following their dispatch of Osama bin Laden last May — tend to draw from small pools of talent. For the SEALs, that includes athletic young men who are smart and good in the water. For whatever reason, that has led to an overwhelmingly white SEAL force.
Gaps exist in minority representation in both officer and enlisted ranks for Special Warfare operators. Diverse officers represent only ten percent of the officer pool (for example, African Americans represent less than 2% of SEAL officers). Diverse enlisted SEALs account for less than twenty percent of the total SEAL enlisted population. Naval Special Warfare is committed to fielding a force that represents the demographics of the nation it serves. This contract initiative seeks effective strategies to introduce high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds to the opportunities available in Naval Special Warfare.

Seriously?? Is it more important to have a diverse SEAL unit or to have a unit built with the absolute best talent that we can find/develop? This kind of thinking and social meddling is exactly what’s wrong with our country.

Getting a bad feeling that the requirements to become a SEAL will be lowered to be more “inclusive” . Just as other elite forces have, Firefighters, police ect.
Fuck that—-I don’t want an affirmative action doctor and I would not like it if an affirmative action seal had my back—-I want the best to be “the best” screw color. And I don’t particularly think anyone who list themselves as something-American ought to be considered…..I am an American, my heritage is American Indian but thats an accident of birth and describes what I am…My heart and my head determine who I am.

The swim test is the problem. Give the blacks a waiver for the swim test. There appears to be no problem for lowering firefighter standards when blacks can’t pass the test.

I watched a great series on SEAL candidates and the incredibly harsh training they endure to make the cut and this one poor Black guy got pretty far in the training and then just completely failed the swimming part and was rejected.
Being a SEAL entails being able to swim with full gear in horrendous conditions. If one SEAL fails to be able to swim during a mission he jeopardizes the mission and everyone in his unit. It’s that simple. The military brass knows this too. I’m not revealing any secrets.
This is affirmative action in other words. And we all know how well that works out.

@Dapandico and @Major Glory. I work in the aquatics industry and blacks and hispanics are under-represented in swim lessons and at the pool in general. The opportunity is there but they generally don’t take it. Agree with the assessment of the athletic skills as mentioned in @Dannyboy71.

Special Ops forces do not discriminate against anyone, PERIOD! It is all volunteer, all the time and only the best are selected to become a member; usually after you’ve had your ass kicked for weeks on end without rest. The requirements are very strict – that’s why they’re called ELITE FORCES. THERE IS NO FUCKING RACIAL COMPONENT WHATSOEVER ABOUT IT. In the unit I was in, our racial statistics were probably 10% blacks, 80% whites and the other 10% hispanics and asian. We didn’t see any problems, because when you’re among the elite, all else is bullshit!
To change the ethnic makeup of the Special Ops forces, you must lower the entrance standards which will overall lower the value of the forces and result in a lowering or destruction of mission capability. And heaven forbid, the day they promote and let women in the units. GI Jane – no fucking way you’d ever survive the entrance requirements.

When I was at Fort Lewis with the 2nd Ranger Battallion C Co. in the early 80′s we had about 7 blacks in our RIP class (Ranger Indoctrination Program) and they all washed out in the water phase of training…simple as that.

I agree with Sentinel. FYI- so do our two females trying to become officers in the USAF. They love the SEALS, and do not want to be in any Special Forces branch. Some places are just for the guys, and they respect that. A lot. They also are not keen on the whole females on the front lines deal because of the chivalry the men in the military do have for females, and they believe this could be an issue. One wants to be a neuro doc, and the other wants to work in intel, along the lines of anthropology and speaking multiple languages. They want to serve, but where they are not a detriment.
We cannot allow this crap to take place!!!!!!!

Once upon a time many years ago, we were doing PT at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. We were doing different buddy relays. I was 5’1 1/2″ 120 lbs. and my buddy was 6’4″ 215 lbs. In different legs of the relays we had to “fireman” carry each other. He had no problem carrying me, but the company thought it was pretty funny when I tried to carry him. If it had been on a battle field we both would have been dead.
The Special Forces are our some of our best and brightest. They could care less about race, etc. All that matters is that you NEVER quit, loyal to our country, surviving the selections courses and training as well as being good at your specialty.

Believe me, the Special Ops community would like nothing better than to have more operators who are NOT Caucasian, because it makes it that much easier to make alliances and conduct operations in places like Latin America, Asia and Africa. But recruitment of so-called minorities is greatly affected by shit-heads like Jesse Jackson who say that they will only be cannon fodder. I don’t know of a single instance where a volunteer was rejected based on race (other than Caucasian). I hope to G-d they don’t lower the standards!

I saw Act of Valor this afternoon and I can see why the libtards hate it. I hope it makes millions and millions of dollars. I wish they would have had DVD’s out in the lobby for sale so I can watch it a few more times w/out having to wait for the DVD release date.
It takes honest desire and a certain type personality to be in the SEALS/SF, you are not going to find these type of people by plucking them off the streets. You have to WANT to do it. With the way the left has feminized and demeaned the role of men in this country the types this article wants will be hard to find w/out manipulation. America’s children have become very soft and lazy. So therefore they will change the requirements. Nothing is sacred in this country anymore, nothing. I hate that Special Ops folks are becoming mainstream.
Anyway, there were 2 Black SEALS in the platoon in the movie, my impression is they were American SEAL men, not Black or Afro-American. I have to admit at one point it ran across my mind the idea of coming up w/skin color paint that doesn’t kill you, like in the movie Goldfinger, would come in handy for certain missions.
Go see the movie. I rarely pay to go to the theater, I like movies at home sitting on my couch. I am glad I saw it on the big screen. Awesome cinematography.

As a swim coach I know for a fact that innate swimming & aquatic skills only come from exposure & participation in the water from a young age.
The test for a professional beach lifeguard is 800 mtrs in under 14 minutes. I have met few people of any colour who can do this unless they have been a good swimmer for some time.
SEAL & Aquatc special forces must be superior all round swimming & aquatic skills.
They don’t come easy& can’t be faked.
I will accept any color in any position. But they have to meet the standards. Never lower the standards. When you lower the standards to be ‘fair’ you get substandard people. And those substandard people know they don’t deserve to be there. All of us who have done 20 or more years have known some of these. They are a joke, and most of them know it. And you know what? Some don’t care. I always figured those ones had no pride and no shame either. And they got no respect, or loyalty.
No fair!!! There are no dead people in the Seals. Sure, the other guys would have to carry them, but think of the good it would do for their image! Dead people have rights too!

Well in movies there are always at the very least 1 black seal in the group. Hollywood wishes. I seriously doubt that the seals will discriminate against a black trainee ……so I guess either they dont cut it or are not interested in joining the seals altogether. Watch out 4 serious slack in training coming soon. Always the same …….standards being lowered to make minorities able to be part of something where we need the best not the blackest.
