Second Time This Week, Carney Sends Afghans Our “Severe Apologies” For Koran Burning…
On Tuesday it was an apology, on Thursday it was upgraded to a “severe apology.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today offered “severe apologies” to Afghans for the burning of Korans by U.S. soldiers, suggesting kowtowing by the U.S. government to Afghanistan over the incident was necessary to avoid attacks on U.S. troops.
“One of the reasons that it’s appropriate to express our severe apologies for this incident is the kind of reaction that it could cause that risks putting our men and women in harms way, in further risk than they already are,” Carney said.

An American leader would take the steps to defend the military in this case. There seemed to be clear reasons for the burning of these books, what with coded messages scrawled in the margins.
A leader who had an understanding of Islam would mention the hypocrisy of the rioters and would slam home the message that the books were written in, which already meant that they were befouled according to Islam.
Instead, we have the WH Press Secretary groveling to an uneducated bloodthirsty mob.
